Angels | Daniel Nava signs with Halos

Wed, 16 Dec 2015 15:38:23 -0800

Free-agent OF Daniel Nava (Rays) signed a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Wednesday, Dec. 16. Nava could form a platoon in left field with OF Craig Gentry next year. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Fantasy Tip: Nava bounced around last year with the Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays as a reserve outfielder, and he hit .194 (27-for-139) in limited action over 60 games. He's a career .281 hitter against right-handed pitching but has very limited power and won't play everyday. He's strictly an AL-only commodity for depth if he's platooning.

Angels | Craig Gentry signs with Halos

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 14:25:25 -0800

Free-agent OF Craig Gentry (Athletics) signed an undisclosed major league contract with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Wednesday, Dec. 9.

Fantasy Tip: At best, Gentry will likely find himself in a platoon role in the Angels outfield, most likely in left field. He has basically zero pop, but he has reached the 20-stolen base mark multiple times in his career, so if he sees extended playing time for some reason, he'll be useful in deep mixed and AL-only leagues for his speed.

Athletics | Billy Burns not starting Sunday

Sun, 04 Oct 2015 11:56:21 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Billy Burns is out of the starting lineup against Seattle Mariners SP Vidal Nuno. OF Craig Gentry will bat eighth and play center field.

Fantasy Tip: Gentry ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) has always been known primarily as a defensive-minded outfielder, so FantasyScore owners should avoid using him this afternoon.

Athletics | Josh Reddick, Stephen Vogt out

Mon, 28 Sep 2015 16:16:53 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick and C Stephen Vogt are not in the lineup against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim left-handed SP Hector Santiago Monday, Sept. 28. OF Craig Gentry is starting in right field and batting eighth, while C Bryan Anderson is behind the plate and batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: You should look to ignore both Gentry ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) and Anderson ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) in a pitching-friendly environment tonight on FantasyScore.

Athletics | Billy Burns remains out vs. Chicago

Mon, 14 Sep 2015 14:11:16 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Billy Burns (hamstring) is not in the starting lineup Monday, Sept. 14. OF Craig Gentry is starting in center field and batting ninth against Chicago White Sox SP John Danks Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Burns ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) is likely to return sooner than later, but for now you'll want to keep him stashed on your benches. Gentry ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) has shown he is a capable hitter in the past, but this season has been a mess for the veteran. He owns a .077/.159/.077 slash line over 44 plate appearances this year, and he is nothing more than a desperation flier at FantasyScore Monday.

Athletics | Ben Zobrist activated from DL

Mon, 25 May 2015 10:22:16 -0700

Oakland Athletics 2B Ben Zobrist (knee) was activated from the 15-day disabled list Monday, May 25. The team also optioned OF Craig Gentry to Class AAA Nashville.

Fantasy Tip: Zobrist ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) could be eased back into the lineup and could also see more time in the outfield. Owners on FantasyScore may want to see how he does in a game or two before considering him as a starting option.

Athletics | Craig Gentry draws start

Wed, 20 May 2015 09:19:58 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Craig Gentry is starting in left field and hitting eighth in the batting order against Houston Astros SP Dallas Keuchel Wednesday, May 20. OF Coco Crisp (neck) is not in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Gentry ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) is hitting only .086 (3-for-35) with no homers and two RBI and should be an afterthought in daily games.

Athletics | Ike Davis placed on DL

Sun, 17 May 2015 10:13:45 -0700

Oakland Athletics 1B Ike Davis (quadriceps) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday, May 17, because of a strained left quadriceps. The team also recalled OF Craig Gentry from Class AAA Nashville (Tenn.).

Fantasy Tip: Mark Canha ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) and Max Muncy ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) could see time at first base while Davis is sidelined. Neither player is a great option for owners on FantasyScore but could be helpful against certain matchups.

Athletics | Coco Crisp back from DL

Wed, 06 May 2015 12:38:07 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp (elbow) was activated from the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, May 6, and OF Craig Gentry was sent to the minors in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Crisp ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) will likely be eased back into the starting lineup, however, with speedster Billy Burns ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) playing well at the top of the lineup this week. Crisp is an asset in AL-only and deep mixed leagues, but Burns has more upside all around. Burns is also much more of a value play at FantasyScore when he's in the lineup.

Athletics | Craig Gentry starting again

Wed, 29 Apr 2015 13:54:47 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Craig Gentry is starting again in left field and hitting ninth in the batting order against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Matt Shoemaker Wednesday, April 29. OF Mark Canha is sitting on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: Gentry ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) is seeing some love now in left field with Mark Canha ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) slumping after a hot start. Canha has just four hits in 23 at-bats and 10 K's since April 19. He shouldn't be kept around in any leagues besides deep AL-only formats. Gentry (.067, 0-1) doesn't offer much FantasyScore value while hitting ninth, and he's a weak play Wednesday evening.
