Oakland Athletics OF Sam Fuld profiles as the team's fourth or fifth outfielder, and manager Bob Melvin calls Fuld a "pest." The team already has four with OFs Yoenis Cespedes, Coco Crisp, Craig Gentry and Josh Reddick, and likely won't carry another if they want to keep six infielders and three catchers. If an injury opens up a spot, Fuld might be in a heated competition with fellow Stanford alum OF Michael Taylor, who is out of options.

Updating a previous report, Oakland Athletics OF Craig Gentry (back) will be sidelined for a few days after an MRI Saturday, Feb. 22, revealed a lower back strain. The team just wants to be extra careful. "We're just going to get ahead of this thing and keep him off the field for a few days," manager Bob Melvin said. "It'll be into next week some, but we're not sure how long. He's a pretty eager beaver. He wants to get out there and do his thing, especially with a new team."

The Texas Rangers acquired OF Michael Choice and INF Chris Bostick from the Oakland Athletics Tuesday, Dec. 3, in exchange for OF Craig Gentry and SP Josh Lindblom. Choice will be on the major league roster while Bostick has been assigned to Single-A Myrtle Beach. Choice was selected 10th overall in the 2010 draft by the Athletics and made his major league debut in September by going 5-for-18 (.278) in nine games. "Michael is a guy we followed in his amateur days literally down the block," general manager Jon Daniels said. "He has a chance to hit and hit for power, is athletic and can play all three outfield spots."

The Oakland Athletics acquired OF Craig Gentry from the Texas Rangers Tuesday, Dec. 2, in exchange for OF Michael Choice.
Fantasy Tip: Both players become outfield depth for their new teams. Choice has more upside, but Gentry probably has a clearer path to playing time. Both are merely AL-only options unless they find consistent playing time due to an injury.

The Texas Rangers plan to tender contracts to RP Neftali Feliz, SP Alexi Ogando, 1B Mitch Moreland, RP Neal Cotts and OF Craig Gentry.

The Texas Rangers acquired OF Alex Rios from the Chicago White Sox Friday, Aug. 9. The White Sox will also send $1 million to the Rangers for Rios' salary. The White Sox will receive a player to be named or cash considerations. The Rangers are expected to send SS Leury Garcia to Chicago. With Rios gone, OF Avisail Garcia could come up and see playing time in the majors. Garcia had 10 hits in 24 at-bats (.417) with a home run and nine RBIs with Triple-A Charlotte.
Fantasy Tip: Texas was desperately seeking outfield help with Nelson Cruz suspended for the rest of the season. David Murphy and Craig Gentry are expected to platoon in left field from here on out.
Blake Tekotte was called up today, but if Garcia is brought up also, the latter should see most of the playing time for the rest of the year. Add Garcia immediately in AL-only leagues, for now.
