Reds | Zack Cozart out Tuesday

Tue, 03 May 2016 13:22:38 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SS Zack Cozart (knee) is not in the lineup once again Tuesday, May 3, against the San Francisco Giants. Cozart's replacement is SS Ivan De Jesus, who will hit second against Giants SP Jeff Samardzija.

Fantasy Tip: Cozart is likely day-to-day, so keep him stashed on your bench until the team activates him. As for DeJesus, he is mostly a slap hitter with limited power so you may want to look for another shortstop in daily leagues.

Giants | Jeff Samardzija plays well Friday

Sat, 23 Apr 2016 05:44:01 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jeff Samardzija allowed one run on six hits in 7 2/3 innings against the Miami Marlins Friday, April 22, to record his second win of the season. He struck out five batters and did not walk any batters during the game. He also went 2-for-4 with three RBI at the plate.

Fantasy Tip: Samardzija has posted solid numbers in his first four starts of the season and has not allowed more than three runs in any game. He is scheduled to face the San Diego Padres in his next start and could be an attractive starting candidate in most leagues.

Dodgers | Howie Kendrick in left field

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 16:43:40 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers 2B Howie Kendrick will play left field and bat seventh against San Francisco Giants SP Jeff Samardzija Sunday, April 17, with OF Enrique Hernandez receiving the night off.

Fantasy Tip: Kendrick has yet to record an extra-base hit since his injury-delayed debut, and you can leave him on the bench until his bat comes to life.

Giants | Jeff Samardzija average in debut

Wed, 06 Apr 2016 14:17:16 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jeff Samardzija made his team debut Wednesday, April 6, versus the Milwaukee Brewers, lasting 5 1/3 innings and surrendering three runs on eight hits. He also walked three and struck out six.

Fantasy Tip: It could've been worse, as Samardzija yielded a ton of baserunners and gave up runs in the first three innings before finally settling in. Even so, it's also a little underwhelming for his owners, who probably want to see results right away after the right-hander was a big disappointment last season. There's still potential value here, however, if The Shark is able to recreate the success he enjoyed when last in the National League.

Giants | Jeff Samardzija struggles in Milwaukee

Tue, 05 Apr 2016 22:09:13 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jeff Samardzija will start Wednesday, April 6, against the Milwaukee Brewers. He is 0-3 with a 6.30 ERA in 13 career appearances (six starts) at Miller Park.

Fantasy Tip: DFS players might want to think twice about using Samardzija based upon his poor numbers in Cream City.

Giants | Jeff Samardzija tuned up in loss

Wed, 16 Mar 2016 23:33:13 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jeff Samardzija was touched up for seven earned runs and eight hits in four innings in a Cactus League spring start Wednesday, March 16, against the Seattle Mariners.

Fantasy Tip: Samardzija had one poor inning, really. Don't put too much stock into poor outings like this, as he could have been experimenting with his pitches and trying new things. He is a veteran, and you know what you're going to get. He is a solid middle of the rotation fantasy option in all formats.

Giants | Jeff Samardzija sharp on Sunday

Sun, 06 Mar 2016 14:42:36 -0800

San Francisco Giants SP Jeff Samardzija yielded five hits - all singles - and struck out five in a spring start against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday, March 6.

Fantasy Tip: Samardzija is a good bet to rebound from a disappointing 2015 campaign in which he went 11-13 with a 4.96 ERA with the Chicago White Sox, if only because AT&T Park will do as much to keep balls from leaving the yard as U.S. Cellular Field did to help them leave. If he can recapture his previous strikeout form, Samardzija could finish as a top-20 starting pitcher in his new digs.

Giants | Jeff Samardzija tipped pitches in 2015

Fri, 11 Dec 2015 13:26:01 -0800

San Francisco Giants SP Jeff Samardzija said he tipped his pitches last season, and it was not discovered until the final weeks of the campaign.

Fantasy Tip: Pitching in the National League was kind to Samardzija, so his relocation to the Bay Area stands to propel his fantasy value back up into the middle tier of starting pitchers. And while there is upside for a 2014-type return (2.99 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 8.3 K/9), you shouldn't draft him with that expectation.

Giants | Jeff Samardzija headed to San Francisco

Sat, 05 Dec 2015 10:26:10 -0800

The San Francisco Giants have agreed to terms with free-agent SP Jeff Samardzija (White Sox) on a five-year deal worth $90 million. The deal is pending a physical which will be taken Tuesday, Dec. 8.

Fantasy Tip: Samardzija struggled mightily with the White Sox in 2015, going 11-13 with a 4.96 ERA over 32 starts while leading the American League in hits, earned runs and homers allowed. However, he enjoyed most of his career success in the National League, so he is a prime bounce-back candidate who may benefit greatly from a change of scenery. Samardzija should be selected in the middle rounds of NL-only fantasy leagues and the later rounds of deep mixed leagues next year.

Dodgers | Los Angeles interested in Jeff Samardzija

Fri, 04 Dec 2015 18:05:44 -0800

The Los Angeles Dodgers have reached out to the agent for free-agent SP Jeff Samardzija (White Sox).

Fantasy Tip: Samardzija did not pitch well in 2015 but could be a prime bounce-back candidate if he returns to the National League, where he experienced his greatest amount of success. In 32 starts last season, the 30-year-old right-hander went 11-13 with a 4.96 ERA and led the junior circuit in hits allowed (228), earned runs allowed (118) and home runs allowed (29). As a result of his poor performance, he'll likely fall to the later rounds of most fantasy drafts but could be worth a flier depending on where he lands.
