The major league side of the deal is worth $2.5 million, and includes a 2015 option and buyout, as well as incentives. He is recovering from shoulder surgery, and as a result, the contract starts on a minor-league deal.

Now that the Seattle Mariners signed RP Fernando Rodney to be their closer, the chances of Baltimore Orioles RP Tommy Hunter serving as the closer to start the year have gone way up. The Orioles were one of the finalists to land Rodney for their bullpen. Hunter would like the chance to close if he's not a candidate for the starting rotation. Manager Buck Showalter has said RPs Darren O'Day and Ryan Webb won't be in line to pitch in the ninth on a regular basis. Boston Red Sox RP Andrew Bailey (shoulder) has visited Boston twice a week during the offseason to work with team trainers and physicians. He is expected to begin a throwing program in January and did not put a timetable on his rehab, although it is believed that he will miss the first half of the 2014 season. "I don't want to say I'm ahead of schedule but things are going really well," Bailey said.
