Red Sox | Steven Wright lowers ERA to 2.01

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 20:55:09 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Steven Wright allowed one unearned run and five hits with three walks and six strikeouts over nine innings in a no-decision Monday, June 20, against the Chicago White Sox. He lowered his ERA to an American League-leading 2.01.

Fantasy Tip: Wright saw his five-start win streak snapped, but he extended his quality start streak to seven outings dating back to May 13. He has emerged as a must-start in all fantasy leagues.

Red Sox | Steven Wright earns eighth victory

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 20:39:16 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Steven Wright allowed three runs, six hits and one walk with four strikeouts and two hit batsmen over 7 1/3 innings in a victory Wednesday, June 15, against the Baltimore Orioles. His ERA rose from 2.09 to 2.22, but he still leads the league and has allowed three or fewer runs in 12 of his 13 outings this season.

Fantasy Tip: The knuckleballer has emerged as a must-start fantasy option across all formats with his high win total, solid strikeouts and low ERA and WHIP. He has been one of the biggest surprises in baseball this season.

Red Sox | Steven Wright has done well against O's

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 11:13:00 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Steven Wright has a 2.09 ERA on the year in 12 starts and is 1-0 with a 1.84 ERA with three earned runs allowed with 15 strikeouts in 14 2/3 innings in three appearances against the Baltimore Orioles this year. Wright faces Baltimore Wednesday, June 15.

Fantasy Tip: The knuckleballer has defied expectations this year with his fine performance in 12 starts, and he also sports a 1.13 WHIP and is striking out 7.7 hitters per nine innings. Despite his recent success this year against Baltimore, they are a very dangerous hitting club. Wright could have a tough time returning value tonight, especially after facing them already a few times this year.

Red Sox | Steven Wright has another strong outing

Sat, 11 Jun 2016 04:21:11 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Steven Wright surrendered one unearned run in 7 1/3 innings Friday, June 10, in an 8-1 win over the Minnesota Twins. In his last five starts, the right-hander is 3-0 with a 0.99 ERA in 36 1/3 innings.

Fantasy Tip: Wright has turned into something resembling a staff ace almost overnight. Can he keep up the quality? Ah, that's the magic question. For now, Wright is a must-play in DFS formats and he should be on your regular fantasy lineup. The Red Sox have an explosive team and that offense can back up Wright's pitching.

Red Sox | Steven Wright cruises to win

Mon, 30 May 2016 21:13:37 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Steven Wright allowed two runs, four hits and five walks with seven strikeouts in a complete game win against the Baltimore Orioles Monday, May 30 for his third consecutive complete game.

Fantasy Tip: The knuckleballer is reminding Red Sox nation and fantasy owners of former Boston hurler Tim Wakefield. He is an innings eater who has a 2.45 ERA, and has emerged as a must-start across all formats despite a 5-4 record.

Red Sox | Steven Wright hurls second CG in May

Wed, 18 May 2016 17:05:51 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Steven Wright recorded his second complete game of the month Wednesday, May 18, in Game 1 of the team's doubleheader opposite the Kansas City Royals. He registered eight innings of three-run ball, scattering just five hits and one walk, while striking out six. However, he dropped to 3-4 on the year with the loss.

Fantasy Tip: Even though he has a losing record, Wright has been one of the biggest surprises in fantasy as it concerns starting pitchers, as the knuckleballer has miraculously yielded two runs or less in seven of his eight outings. He plays for a first-place team, too, so Wright also has a nice shot at garnering double-digit victories. With his 2.52 ERA, he's an acceptable option in all formats.

Red Sox | Steven Wright goes the distance

Sun, 08 May 2016 20:01:01 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Steven Wright hurled a complete game in a 5-1 win over the New York Yankees Sunday, May 8, allowing one run on three hits while walking one and striking out seven.

Fantasy Tip: Wright's remarkable season continues for the knuckleballer, but it is hard to believe he will keep this up all year. You can ride the hot hand while it lasts, and it doesn't hurt to try to sell high in the meantime.

Yankees | Jacoby Ellsbury out again

Sun, 08 May 2016 15:52:45 -0700

New York Yankees OF Jacoby Ellsbury (hip) is not starting Sunday, May 8, against the Boston Red Sox. OF Aaron Hicks is in center once again and will bat seventh against Red Sox SP Steven Wright.

Fantasy Tip: Ellsbury may not hit the disabled list, but he's not going to play either and that doesn't help you. Hicks had a .132 mark heading into Sunday, so there are better options to pursue in fantasy leagues.

Red Sox | Steven Wright productive for Boston

Wed, 04 May 2016 10:54:24 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Steven Wright is the ninth pitcher in Red Sox history in the last 100 years to start a season with five starts of six-plus innings and two runs or less.

Fantasy Tip: Wright owns a 1.67 ERA and has struck out 31 hitters in 32 1/3 innings in five starts so far. We've seen knuckleballers bloom late before, but a high strand rate (80.3%) and low opponent's batting average on balls in play (.247) say Wright is bound for regression eventually. He's a popular waiver wire target right now, but be careful with him and play the matchups only in deeper mixed and AL-only leagues.

Red Sox | Steven Wright whiffs eight in win

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 21:35:23 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Steven Wright allowed two runs - one earned - and three hits over seven innings with three walks and eight strikeouts in a win Wednesday, April 27, against the Atlanta Braves.

Fantasy Tip: That's four outings and four quality starts for Wright, who looks to be the new Tim Wakefield in Beantown. Fantasy owners can trust him in all AL-only leagues, and he is certainly worth using in deeper mixed formats and DFS as well.
