Rays | Another QS for Chris Archer

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 21:49:36 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer allowed two earned runs, one hit and four walks over six innings in a no-decision Saturday, April 30, against the Toronto Blue Jays. He also struck out four batters in the 100-pitch quality start.

Fantasy Tip: Archer started the season 0-4 with a 7.32 ERA in his first four outings with no quality starts, but he is 1-0 with a 1.42 ERA in two quality starts since April 25. He has re-emerged as a must-start fantasy option across most formats.

Rays | Chris Archer quells fears of owners

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 19:01:48 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer scattered five hits with no walks and 10 strikeouts over 6 2/3 scoreless innings in a win Monday, April 25, against the Baltimore Orioles. It his fifth career scoreless start with at least 10 strikeouts, most in franchise history.

Fantasy Tip: Archer entered the start 0-4 with a 7.32 ERA with 11 walks and six homers allowed over 19 2/3 innings, and a WHIP at 2.08. However, with one outstanding quality start, he appears to have turned things around against a familiar foe to allay the fears of fantasy owners. This is why you do not panic on a proven guy after just a couple of poor outings.

Rays | Chris Archer bombed again

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 22:21:53 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer allowed six earned runs, eight hits and three walks in just 4 1/3 innings in a loss Wednesday, April 20, against the Boston Red Sox.

Fantasy Tip: Archer is 0-4 with a 7.32 ERA, and he has served up six homers over his past three outings over a span of 14 2/3 innings. He has been terrible, with a WHIP of 2.08, and there are no signs of a turnaround. Fantasy owners should hang onto him, but definitely reserve him until he starts to right the ship.

Rays | Chris Archer looks for turnaround

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 23:53:25 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer will make the start Wednesday, April 20, against the Boston Red Sox. He has lost his past six starts dating back to last season, and he is 0-3 with a 5.87 ERA this season.

Fantasy Tip: Archer has struggled mightily, and he cannot be trusted in AL-only, deeper mixed fantasy play and DFS leagues right now until he starts to show a little more consistency.

Rays | Chris Archer loses another

Thu, 14 Apr 2016 14:51:30 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer allowed three runs (two earned) and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings in his third loss of the season to the Cleveland Indians Thursday, April 14. He is now 0-6 with a 5.83 ERA in nine starts since Aug. 31 of last year. Archer walked three and struck out six in the outing.

Fantasy Tip: Well, this certainly isn't the start Archer owners envisioned when they took him as their fantasy ace. It's still early, though, and the young strikeout artist can rebound. Continue to use him as your fantasy ace.

Rays | Chris Archer tagged with loss Friday

Fri, 08 Apr 2016 19:14:43 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer (0-2) allowed six runs and 10 hits over five innings in a loss to the Baltimore Orioles Friday, April 8.

Fantasy Tip: Archer allowed a career-high four homers in Friday's game and remains winless in his last eight starts, dating back to Aug. 31, 2015. He should continue to rack up plenty of strikeouts but may have difficulty posting many victories due to the Rays' inconsistent offense.

Rays | Chris Archer sets record in loss

Sun, 03 Apr 2016 16:16:22 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer set a franchise record with 12 strikeouts on opening day, allowing two earned runs on five hits in five innings in a loss to the Toronto Blue Jays Sunday, April 3.

Fantasy Tip: Archer should provide elite strikeout totals all season, but just keep in mind that wins could be tough to come by thanks to the state of Tampa Bay's lineup.

Rays | Chris Archer fans 12 in loss to Toronto

Sun, 03 Apr 2016 16:15:04 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer yielded three runs - two earned - and five hits over as many inning during a 107-pitch outing, striking out 12 in a loss to the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday, April 3.

Fantasy Tip: It was a near-impossible assignment for the Tampa Bay ace against the loaded Toronto offense, and while the end result wasn't what his fantasy owners wanted, it is hard to complain about two earned runs and 12 K's against the Blue Jays. Archer is a strong second starter in fantasy and slated to face another formidable offense in his next trip to the mound - Friday in Baltimore against the Orioles.

Rays | Chris Archer to start opener

Mon, 14 Mar 2016 08:26:34 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer will start opening day against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Fantasy Tip: Shocker. OK, not really. Archer's numbers (3.23 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, 252 K's in 212 innings) make him a SP1 candidate, but his 12 wins and questionable offense again in 2016 make him a low-end option of aces.

Rays | Chris Archer untouchable

Thu, 17 Dec 2015 10:23:44 -0800

Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer is "pretty close" to untouchable in trade talks, according to major league sources. A few people with connections to the Los Angeles Dodgers considered that they may take a run to try to acquire Archer. The Rays want to win both now and in the future. The price for trading for an elite starting pitcher is higher than ever after a huge package was needed for the Arizona Diamondbacks to land SP Shelby Miller.

Fantasy Tip: Archer is an elite young starting pitcher who went 12-13 with a 3.23 ERA and 10.7 strikeouts per nine innings in 2015. It's highly unlikely that he's moved this offseason. He deserves a high fantasy price in drafts next spring and could easily finish as a top-five arm.
