Rays | Chris Archer tagged with loss Friday

Fri, 27 May 2016 18:46:47 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer (3-6) allowed four runs (one earned) on four hits over eight innings in a loss to the New York Yankees Friday, May 27, with three walks and seven strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Archer has dropped his last two starts after recording victories in three consecutive decisions. He should be viewed as a somewhat risky play for his next scheduled start against the Kansas City Royals Wednesday, June 1.

Marlins | Jose Fernandez dominating with slider

Thu, 26 May 2016 15:39:26 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez leads the majors in strikeouts accumulated by the slider, as his six on Thursday, May 26, give him 51 for the season. Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer is in second in that department with 41, while New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda trails close behind with 40. Los Angeles Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw is fourth with 39 punch-outs utilizing his slider.

Fantasy Tip: Simply put, Fernandez is enjoying a phenomenal season, and this stat adds to the depth of just how terrific he's been. After Thursday's win, Fernandez is now 7-2 with a 2.82 ERA, not to mention while having an insane 90 strikeouts in just 60 2/3 innings. Keep trotting him out there with high hopes every time he toes the rubber.

Rays | Chris Archer upset with pitch execution

Sun, 22 May 2016 19:16:07 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer said his rough outing Sunday, May 22, was caused by failing to execute pitches within the strike zone. "In the past, I haven't been in the strike zone enough," Archer said. "Today was a different outcome why I gave up runs."

Fantasy Tip: While Sunday's outing was a setback, Archer should still end up being a major fantasy asset this year. He makes a nice buy-low candidate.

Rays | Chris Archer misses his mark

Sun, 22 May 2016 14:19:30 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer saw his five-game unbeaten streak come to an end on Sunday, May 22, surrendering a season-high tying six runs on eight hits in just three frames in a loss at the Detroit Tigers.

Fantasy Tip: Archer, who had nearly lowered his ERA three runs to 4.38 following his four-game losing streak to begin the season prior to this outing, gave up at least one run in every inning he worked Sunday. The 27-year-old has made his last four starts on the road and has to be anxious to return to Tropicana Field, where he has posted a 2.35 ERA this season. He'll get that chance in his next scheduled start on Friday against the New York Yankees.

Rays | Chris Archer wins again

Tue, 17 May 2016 21:30:35 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer allowed two runs on four hits in six innings against the Toronto Blue Jays Tuesday, May 17, to pick up his third win of the season. He struck out seven batters and walked four in the game.

Fantasy Tip: Archer is pitching better after he struggled earlier in the season. He has allowed only eight earned runs in his last five games. He is scheduled to face the Miami Marlins in his next start and should be a fine starting candidate in all fantasy leagues.

Rays | Chris Archer disappoints in Seattle

Wed, 11 May 2016 18:22:43 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer saw his streak of three consecutive quality starts come to an end Wednesday, May 11, opposite the Seattle Mariners. He went just five innings, yielding four runs on five hits and four walks, while striking out five. He ended up receiving a no-decision.

Fantasy Tip: Most of the damage done against Archer came in the first inning, when he curiously walked three, so owners should take solace in the fact that he at least managed to settle in. Even still, it's disappointing to see the perennial AL Cy Young candidate resort to his underwhelming form from the beginning of the season, but hopefully it's just an anomaly. His high strikeout rate is still there, so there are still signs Archer can return to the consistent dominant pitcher he's been in recent years.

Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer allowed just five hits with six strikeouts over six scoreless innings in a win Friday, May 6, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in his 100th major league start.

Fantasy Tip: Archer had a terrible start to the season, but he has whittled his ERA down to a more respectable 4.23. This is why you do not panic and dump an underachieving fantasy star after a slow start.

Rays | Another QS for Chris Archer

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 21:49:36 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer allowed two earned runs, one hit and four walks over six innings in a no-decision Saturday, April 30, against the Toronto Blue Jays. He also struck out four batters in the 100-pitch quality start.

Fantasy Tip: Archer started the season 0-4 with a 7.32 ERA in his first four outings with no quality starts, but he is 1-0 with a 1.42 ERA in two quality starts since April 25. He has re-emerged as a must-start fantasy option across most formats.

Rays | Chris Archer quells fears of owners

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 19:01:48 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer scattered five hits with no walks and 10 strikeouts over 6 2/3 scoreless innings in a win Monday, April 25, against the Baltimore Orioles. It his fifth career scoreless start with at least 10 strikeouts, most in franchise history.

Fantasy Tip: Archer entered the start 0-4 with a 7.32 ERA with 11 walks and six homers allowed over 19 2/3 innings, and a WHIP at 2.08. However, with one outstanding quality start, he appears to have turned things around against a familiar foe to allay the fears of fantasy owners. This is why you do not panic on a proven guy after just a couple of poor outings.

Rays | Chris Archer bombed again

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 22:21:53 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer allowed six earned runs, eight hits and three walks in just 4 1/3 innings in a loss Wednesday, April 20, against the Boston Red Sox.

Fantasy Tip: Archer is 0-4 with a 7.32 ERA, and he has served up six homers over his past three outings over a span of 14 2/3 innings. He has been terrible, with a WHIP of 2.08, and there are no signs of a turnaround. Fantasy owners should hang onto him, but definitely reserve him until he starts to right the ship.
