Rays | Chris Archer suffers 10th loss

Wed, 22 Jun 2016 19:55:48 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer allowed four earned runs, six hits and two walks with five strikeouts over six innings in a loss Wednesday, June 22, against the Cleveland Indians. Archer threw just 61 of his 97 pitches for strikes.

Fantasy Tip: Archer is 0-2 with a 4.76 ERA in two outings against the Tribe this season, and he is 0-5 with a 5.14 ERA in five starts against Cleveland since the start of the 2013 season. Archer is still posting a decent amount of strikeouts for fantasy owners, but the 10 losses before the All-Star break is a huge disappointment.

Rays | Chris Archer tagged with loss Friday

Fri, 17 Jun 2016 19:19:41 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer (4-9) allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits over six innings in a loss to the San Francisco Giants Friday, June 17, with three walks and seven strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Despite his subpar record, Archer remains a useful starter to own in seasonal fantasy leagues because of his high strikeout totals. However, he has posted a 4.90 ERA through four outings in June, so daily fantasy players will want to look for favorable matchups before automatically pencilling him into their lineups. His next start will come against the Cleveland Indians Wednesday, June 22.

Rays | Chris Archer productive in loss

Sat, 11 Jun 2016 19:49:45 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer allowed three earned runs, six hits and no walks with eight strikeouts over 7 2/3 innings in a loss Saturday, June 11, against the Houston Astros.

Fantasy Tip: Archer slipped to 4-8, but he actually lowered his ERA from 4.73 to 4.61 with the quality start. He started off horribly this season, but he worked six or more innings in four straight outings while giving up three or fewer runs in three of the assignments. He is a high strikeout pitcher and should not be dropped in any fantasy league despite his poor overall record. He remains a solid fantasy option across the board despite the lack of wins.

Rays | Chris Archer fans 12 in win

Tue, 07 Jun 2016 05:04:14 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer struck out 12 Arizona Diamondbacks in a 6-4 win Monday, June 6. Archer allowed three runs, five hits and three walks in his first win since May 17.

Fantasy Tip: Archer really needed this victory for a confidence boost. Pegged as one of the American League's rising aces at the start of the year, Archer has struggled mightily. Archer is 4-7 right now and could be on the rise, but wait and see if he puts together another quality start behind this one before you rush to activate.

Rays | Chris Archer has road woes

Mon, 06 Jun 2016 12:06:00 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer is 2-4 with a 7.13 ERA in seven road starts this year. He faces the Arizona Diamondbacks on the road Monday, June 6.

Fantasy Tip: Archer has been a disappointment to fantasy owners this year with an up-and-down season that has him sporting a 4.75 ERA and 1.52 WHIP along with a dazzling 10.3 K/9. He's a risk-reward start tonight on the road against the D-backs.

Rays | Chris Archer tagged with loss Friday

Fri, 27 May 2016 18:46:47 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer (3-6) allowed four runs (one earned) on four hits over eight innings in a loss to the New York Yankees Friday, May 27, with three walks and seven strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Archer has dropped his last two starts after recording victories in three consecutive decisions. He should be viewed as a somewhat risky play for his next scheduled start against the Kansas City Royals Wednesday, June 1.

Marlins | Jose Fernandez dominating with slider

Thu, 26 May 2016 15:39:26 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez leads the majors in strikeouts accumulated by the slider, as his six on Thursday, May 26, give him 51 for the season. Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer is in second in that department with 41, while New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda trails close behind with 40. Los Angeles Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw is fourth with 39 punch-outs utilizing his slider.

Fantasy Tip: Simply put, Fernandez is enjoying a phenomenal season, and this stat adds to the depth of just how terrific he's been. After Thursday's win, Fernandez is now 7-2 with a 2.82 ERA, not to mention while having an insane 90 strikeouts in just 60 2/3 innings. Keep trotting him out there with high hopes every time he toes the rubber.

Rays | Chris Archer upset with pitch execution

Sun, 22 May 2016 19:16:07 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer said his rough outing Sunday, May 22, was caused by failing to execute pitches within the strike zone. "In the past, I haven't been in the strike zone enough," Archer said. "Today was a different outcome why I gave up runs."

Fantasy Tip: While Sunday's outing was a setback, Archer should still end up being a major fantasy asset this year. He makes a nice buy-low candidate.

Rays | Chris Archer misses his mark

Sun, 22 May 2016 14:19:30 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer saw his five-game unbeaten streak come to an end on Sunday, May 22, surrendering a season-high tying six runs on eight hits in just three frames in a loss at the Detroit Tigers.

Fantasy Tip: Archer, who had nearly lowered his ERA three runs to 4.38 following his four-game losing streak to begin the season prior to this outing, gave up at least one run in every inning he worked Sunday. The 27-year-old has made his last four starts on the road and has to be anxious to return to Tropicana Field, where he has posted a 2.35 ERA this season. He'll get that chance in his next scheduled start on Friday against the New York Yankees.

Rays | Chris Archer wins again

Tue, 17 May 2016 21:30:35 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer allowed two runs on four hits in six innings against the Toronto Blue Jays Tuesday, May 17, to pick up his third win of the season. He struck out seven batters and walked four in the game.

Fantasy Tip: Archer is pitching better after he struggled earlier in the season. He has allowed only eight earned runs in his last five games. He is scheduled to face the Miami Marlins in his next start and should be a fine starting candidate in all fantasy leagues.
