Cubs | Albert Almora takes a seat

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 11:25:44 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Albert Almora is not in the starting lineup Monday, June 27. OF Chris Coghlan makes the start in right field and is hitting eighth against Cincinnati Reds SP Dan Straily. OF Jason Heyward moves over to center field and is batting second.

Fantasy Tip: Coghlan has only six hits in 28 at-bats (.214) since being traded back to the Cubs earlier this month and is a low-end outfield pick in daily formats. Heyward has picked it up a bit in June with three home runs and 23 hits in 89 at-bats, and he's not a bad DFS selection while facing Straily tonight.

Cubs | No Javier Baez vs. Fish

Sun, 26 Jun 2016 06:56:41 -0700

Chicago Cubs INF Javier Baez is not in the starting lineup against the Miami Marlins Sunday, June 26. OF Chris Coghlan is starting in right field and batting eighth against Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Fernandez checks out as one of the most daunting matchups in baseball, so it isn't surprising to see Baez on the pine given his free-swinging approach and lack of handedness advantage. Baez has proved to be a valuable deep league option because of his modest five-category return and eligibility at multiple positions. Coghlan should likely be avoided in all fantasy formats Sunday, but since joining Chicago, he has a .412 on-base percentage through 14 games. Coghlan is worth owning in deep mixed and NL-only leagues.

Cubs | Anthony Rizzo, Miguel Montero back in lineup

Sat, 25 Jun 2016 10:07:28 -0700

Chicago Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo (back) and C Miguel Montero (knee) are back in the starting lineup against Miami Marlins SP Paul Clemens Saturday, June 25. In addition, C/OF Willson Contreras will bat cleanup and play left field, while INF Javier Baez plays second base and bats sixth. OF Chris Coghlan and 2B Ben Zobrist (foot) are receiving the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Contreras is 7-for-17 (.412) through the first seven games of his MLB career, with three home runs and eight RBI, and will be making his first appearance in the outfield since being called up. He is a must-start option in DFS this afternoon. Baez is batting .284 with four homers and 14 RBI this month and could see regular time at the keystone position over the next few days if Zobrist is forced to miss multiple games due to a right foot injury.

Cubs | Anthony Rizzo remains out vs. Fish

Fri, 24 Jun 2016 12:01:53 -0700

Chicago Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo (back) is not in the starting lineup Friday, June 24. OF Chris Coghlan draws into the lineup in left field and is batting fifth against Miami Marlins SP Tom Koehler Friday.

Fantasy Tip: This is the second consecutive game Rizzo is sitting out, as he and the team are being cautious with his nagging back stiffness. Coghlan has a .407 on-base percentage through 12 games since joining the Cubs, but he's still a low-end fantasy option in deep mixed leagues. Stay tuned for updates on Rizzo's status for the weekend.

Cubs | Chris Coghlan leading off vs. Cards

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 12:19:29 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B/OF Chris Coghlan is starting in left field and leading off against St. Louis Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright Tuesday, June 21. INF Javier Baez is not in the starting lineup Tuesday.

Fantasy Tip: Coghlan is 4-for-15 with a .389 on-base percentage and five runs since joining the Cubs, and he is a viable option in cavernous mixed and NL-only setups. He's also a solid option in daily contests Tuesday. Baez should be owned in deep mixed leagues given his solid cross-category contributions and eligibility at multiple positions.

Cardinals | Trevor Rosenthal holds on for 13th save

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 22:37:56 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals RP Trevor Rosenthal made things interesting yet again on Monday, June 20 - giving up a leadoff double to Chicago Cubs OF Albert Almora Jr., hitting pinch-hitter Chris Coghlan with a pitch and allowing a single to 2B Ben Zobrist - but forced a game-ending infield popup for the final out after C Yadier Molina made a stellar defensive play to retire Almora at third for the second out.

Fantasy Tip: Manager Mike Matheny continues to stand by his man, but Rosenthal isn't making it easy. The 26-year-old closer has only three clean outings this month and, as a result, a 12.00 ERA and 2.67 WHIP in nine June appearances. He also has a HBP each of his last two games as well. A closer change doesn't appear imminent yet based on Matheny's postgame comments, but owners could make a play for Kevin Siegrist if they have room on their roster to do so.

Cubs | Chris Coghlan to bat leadoff

Sun, 19 Jun 2016 15:32:08 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Chris Coghlan will bat leadoff in the game Sunday, June 19, against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Coghlan will play left field.

Fantasy Tip: Coghlan has been pressed into duty with the absence of Dexter Fowler. Jason Heyward is playing center and Kris Bryant is in right. Coghlan is 3-for-11 with four runs scored in the past week, and he might be worth a low-cost flyer in DFS formats.

Cubs | Anthony Rizzo, Chris Coghlan starting

Sat, 11 Jun 2016 11:22:46 -0700

Chicago Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo (back) and OF Chris Coghlan are in the starting lineup against Atlanta Braves SP Matt Wisler Saturday, June 11.

Fantasy Tip: During the month of June, Rizzo is 11-for-27 (.407) with two home runs and six RBI, making him a viable option in all fantasy formats. On the other hand, Coghlan is batting just .145 with 57 strikeouts in 159 at-bats this year and should be avoided everywhere.

Cubs | Chris Coghlan to see time in left field

Fri, 10 Jun 2016 15:38:02 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Chris Coghlan will primarily play left field, according to manager Joe Maddon. Maddon also noted the club did not view Coghlan's rough start to the season with the Oakland Athletics as a "big deal."

Fantasy Tip: Chicago has plenty of positional versatility, so Coghlan is unlikely to receive anything more than a few starts per week. At this point, he should be left to cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues.

Cubs | Tommy La Stella placed on DL

Fri, 10 Jun 2016 13:24:32 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Tommy La Stella (hamstring) was placed on the disabled list Friday, June 10. In a corresponding move, 2B/OF Chris Coghlan was officially added to the 25-man roster.

Fantasy Tip: These are depth pieces for the Cubs and nothing more than cavernous mixed and NL-only options. It isn't out of the question to stash La Stella in those deep leagues because when he plays, he produces (.291/.378/.494). Look for Coghlan to turn his season around after posting a .146/.215/.272 slash line with the Oakland Athletics.
