Athletics | Ben Zobrist a popular trade target

Mon, 27 Jul 2015 12:21:23 -0700

Oakland Athletics 2B Ben Zobrist is a trade target for several of the teams looking to compete for a playoff spot. The Pittsburgh Pirates, Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, New York Yankees and Chicago Cubs are among the teams that are pursing Zobrist.

Fantasy Tip: Zobrist ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) likely is a hot commodity because of his ability to play multiple positions. He could be a starting option for most of the teams interested in him and his fantasy value should be similar no matter where he plays after the trade deadline.

Athletics | Eric Sogard playing second base

Sun, 26 Jul 2015 11:45:54 -0700

Oakland Athletics 2B Eric Sogard will bat seventh against San Francisco Giants SP Tim Hudson Sunday, July 26. INF/OF Ben Zobrist, who started at second base Saturday, July 25, will bat third and play left field Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Sogard ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is only batting .185 during the month of July and is not a great starting option at the keystone position in FantasyScore.

Mets | No ongoing discussion for Ben Zobrist

Tue, 21 Jul 2015 19:23:00 -0700

Updating a previous report, Oakland Athletics 2B Ben Zobrist is not close to heading to the New York Mets via trade. According to a source, there have been no ongoing discussions involving the teams on Zobrist.

Fantasy Tip: A report earlier in the night had the two teams discussing pieces for a possible trade, but this refutes that report.

Mets | NYM closing in on Ben Zobrist?

Tue, 21 Jul 2015 18:08:00 -0700

The New York Mets and Oakland Athletics are discussing a deal for 2B Ben Zobrist, and the two sides have gotten as far as discussing pieces for a possible trade, a source said Tuesday, July 21.

Fantasy Tip: The Mets are desperate for offense with David Wright and Travis d'Arnaud out of the lineup, and Zobi would be a welcome addition and big bat for a flagging offense in Queens.

Pirates | PIT looking at Ben Zobrist

Tue, 21 Jul 2015 12:38:59 -0700

Oakland Athletics 2B Ben Zobrist is drawing interest from the Pittsburgh Pirates prior to the July 31 trade deadline.

Fantasy Tip: Zobrist ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) would be a natural fit in Pittsburgh because of the loss of injured players like Jordy Mercer and Josh Harrison. Zobrist is hitting .264 in the past two months, so he could be a decent rental for several months.

Athletics | Ben Zobrist touching home frequently

Mon, 13 Jul 2015 13:22:49 -0700

Oakland Athletics 2B Ben Zobrist has scored 21 runs over his past 28 games and 116 plate appearances with three home runs, 15 RBI and a .316/.405/.520 slash line.

Fantasy Tip: Zobrist ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) has settled into the three-hole of the lineup and has begun to deliver big numbers. He is no longer the power-speed threat he once was, but Zobrist still has enough pop to tip the scales more than the majority of middle infielders. Count on solid four-category production going forward, but he is no longer a threat to rack up stolen bases.

Athletics | No Billy Butler against Cleveland

Sun, 12 Jul 2015 07:10:42 -0700

Oakland Athletics 1B Billy Butler is not in the starting lineup Sunday, July 12. 2B Ben Zobrist is batting third as the designated hitter, and 2B Eric Sogard is playing second base and batting seventh against Cleveland Indians SP Corey Kluber Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: With Kluber on the hill, none of the Athletics are strong FantasyScore plays. Zobrist ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) is entering the All-Star break hot, though, with 21 runs, three home runs, 19 RBI and a .322/.417/.544 slash line over his past 26 games. Sogard ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is a low-end option against favorable pitching matchups, so aim higher in daily contests Sunday.

Athletics | A's not rushed to trade Ben Zobrist

Wed, 08 Jul 2015 10:30:39 -0700

Oakland Athletics 2B Ben Zobrist has helped the A's post a 25-17 record since May 23, and the team isn't in a rush to trade him as they battle back into contention in the American League West. Zobrist's trade value is likely to climb the closer it gets to the trade deadline, too. The New York Mets and New York Yankees have been interested in Zobrist, and Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said he would "overpay" for Zobrist, according to a source. Zobrist has a slash line of .366/.460/.634 in 21 games since June 14, including three home runs and 15 RBI. His versatility is also very attractive to other teams; Zobrist has made 21 starts in left field and 22 starts at second base. He's due to become a free agent at the end of the year and is due $3.67 million.

Fantasy Tip: Zobrist ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) would surely see his fantasy value climb with a trade out of pitcher-friendly O.co Coliseum. Buying low on him now might be a smart move in traditional leagues.

Angels | Halos interested in Ben Zobrist

Tue, 07 Jul 2015 06:12:35 -0700

Oakland Athletics 2B/OF Ben Zobrist is a player the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have inquired about.

Fantasy Tip: Zobrist ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) has turned it up by hitting .314 in his last 15 games. He's also making more frequent contact as he has struck out 18 times in 180 at-bats this year. He's a decent midrange 2B option on FantasyScore.

Athletics | Mark Canha starting in left field

Sun, 05 Jul 2015 11:22:24 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF/1B Mark Canha will start in left field and bat seventh against Seattle Mariners SP Mike Montgomery Sunday, July 5. INF/OF Ben Zobrist, who played left field Saturday, July 4, will play second base and bat third.

Fantasy Tip: The right-handed-hitting Canha ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) is batting .242 overall but is just 8-for-66 (.121) this year when facing lefties. For this reason, it would be wise to avoid using him in FantasyScore today.
