Rangers | Prince Fielder sitting vs. lefty

Mon, 16 May 2016 15:32:48 -0700

Texas Rangers 1B Prince Fielder is not in the starting lineup against Oakland Athletics left-handed SP Sean Manaea Monday, May 16. 3B Adrian Beltre is the designated hitter. 2B Hanser Alberto is starting at third base and hitting ninth, while OF Ryan Rua moves to first base and is batting sixth. OF Justin Ruggiano draws into the lineup in left field and is hitting seventh. Also, SS Elvis Andrus moves up to the two-hole.

Fantasy Tip: After a bounceback year in 2015, Fielder is hurting his fantasy owners big time with a slash line of .184/.253/.277 with just two home runs and 20 RBI in 38 games. If you have better options at first base, you should seriously consider benching Fielder for an extended period until he shows signs of life. Alberto, Rua and Ruggiano are all low-end options in daily games. Andrus gains notable value for DFS tonight, but has a limited ceiling in terms of what he can offer in terms of power and speed on a given day.

Rangers | Ryan Rua, Nomar Mazara to compete in LF?

Wed, 24 Feb 2016 16:23:11 -0800

Texas Rangers OFs Ryan Rua and Nomar Mazara will both receive a look in left field in spring training with OF Josh Hamilton (knee) slated to start on the disabled list. Rua was the Opening Day starter last year but wound up missing two months with a fractured heel. Mazara is the team's No. 2 prospect after hitting .284/.357/.443 with 13 home runs and 56 RBI at Class AA Frisco. OFs Justin Ruggiano, James Jones, Patrick Kivlehan and Lewis Brinson are other internal options.

Fantasy Tip: Rua had a tough break in 2015, but since he displayed those skills last spring, why can't he do it again. He's a speculative stash in deep mixed and AL-only leagues. Mazara, only 20, clearly has more upside for the long term and is the better dart throw as a late-round flier.

Rangers | Justin Ruggiano to work at 1B

Tue, 23 Feb 2016 19:27:22 -0800

Texas Rangers OF Justin Ruggiano has worked as an outfielder for his entire professional career, but the team will also work him out at first base in spring training.

Fantasy Tip: Any additional positional versatility from an eligibility standpoint would boost Ruggiano's fantasy appeal, but he should still be limited to the deepest of AL-only leagues for now.

Rangers | Several options behind Josh Hamilton

Mon, 22 Feb 2016 22:35:42 -0800

Texas Rangers OF Josh Hamilton (knee) is seeking a second opinion on his sore left knee. He had surgery last season to clean out the cartilage in his left knee last season and experienced soreness in the winter. If he isn't ready the team has multiple options including OFs Lewis Brinson, Joey Gallo, James Jones, Nomar Mazara, Ryan Rua and Justin Ruggiano.

Fantasy Tip: Itís uncertain how much time, if any, Hamilton will be forced to miss. The remaining outfielders are a hodgepodge and none are worth using outside of a deeper AL-only fantasy league. The team is also looking at a bevy of free-agent outfielders. Stay tuned.

Rangers | Texas has other options for LF

Wed, 17 Feb 2016 10:30:53 -0800

With Texas Rangers OF Josh Hamilton (knee) already feeling pain in his left knee this spring, the Rangers have alternatives in OFs Justin Ruggiano, Ryan Rua, Joey Gallo and James Jones. Another option is 1B Ike Davis, but he's played just two innings in the outfield in his career.

Fantasy Tip: As most everyone knows, Hamilton is a massive injury risk. Because of that, he's nothing more than a late-round stab in deep mixed leagues. The Rangers might have to get creative with all of their alternatives. Of that group, Gallo is the most attractive because of his monster power capabilities and third base eligibility.

Dodgers | Carl Crawford not starting NLDS Game 4

Tue, 13 Oct 2015 12:35:22 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Carl Crawford is out of the starting lineup for Game 4 of the National League Division Series Tuesday, Oct. 13, against the New York Mets. OF Justin Ruggiano is batting eighth against Mets SP Steven Matz.

Fantasy Tip: Crawford ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) is a victim of the left vs. left matchup that Matz would have provided. Ruggiano ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) is a .301-5-11 hitter against lefties, so he may be a good bet if you're looking to save a little cap money.

Dodgers | Two Dodgers sit out

Sat, 03 Oct 2015 16:17:16 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Joc Pederson and OF Andre Ethier are out of the lineup Saturday, Oct. 3, against a left-handed starter. OF Enrique Hernandez is leading off, and OF Justin Ruggiano is hitting fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Hernandez ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) is a great start against lefty Robbie Erlin as he has a .427-4-16 split against lefties. Ruggiano ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) hits lefties to a .309-5-11 clip this year, and he's a low-end flyer on FantasyScore.

Dodgers | Four lefties out for Dodgers

Tue, 29 Sep 2015 16:07:00 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OFs Joc Pederson, Andre Ethier and Carl Crawford and C Yasmani Grandal are out of the lineup against San Francisco Giants left-handed SP Madison Bumgarner Tuesday, Sept. 29. OF Enrique Hernandez is in center field and hitting leadoff, OF Justin Ruggiano is in left and batting sixth, C A.J. Ellis is catching and hitting seventh and OF Scott Van Slyke is in right field and batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: In a matchup of perhaps the best two left-handed pitchers on the planet, none of the reserves starting for the Dodgers tonight should be attractive on FantsayScore as anything other than desperation contrarian picks.

Dodgers | Handful of Dodgers lefties sitting

Thu, 24 Sep 2015 10:20:16 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SS Corey Seager, 1B Adrian Gonzalez, OFs Carl Crawford, Joc Pederson and Andre Ethier and C Yasmani Grandal are all out of the lineup against Arizona Diamondbacks left-handed SP Patrick Corbin Thursday, Sept. 24. OF Justin Ruggiano is hitting leadoff, SS Jimmy Rollins is at shortstop and hitting second, OF Scott Van Slyke is at first base and hitting fifth, C A.J. Ellis is behind the plate and OFs Chris Heisey and Scott Schebler round out the bottom of the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: There's not much to like here on FantasyScore with the overhaul of the L.A. lineup this afternoon against a southpaw. In fact, Corbin ($7,500, 15.0% of cap) makes a nice contrarian play if you're feeling lucky with a weak Dodgers lineup today.

Dodgers | Carl Crawford, Justin Ruggiano out

Wed, 23 Sep 2015 16:48:51 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OFs Carl Crawford and Justin Ruggiano are not in the starting lineup Wednesday, Sept. 23.

Fantasy Tip: The Dodgers have been using a number of outfield combinations of late, and it is a daily guessing game who manager Don Mattingly will start. FantasyScore players will want to check the lineup notes before locking any of Crawford ($3,600, 7.2% of cap), Ruggiano ($2,200, 4.4% of cap), Andre Ethier ($3,700, 7.4% of cap), Scott Van Slyke ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) or Joc Pederson ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) in their lineups. In seasonal formats, all five are low-end owns due to their inconsistent playing time.
