Athletics | Jesse Chavez earns win Wednesday

Wed, 19 Aug 2015 18:38:17 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Jesse Chavez (7-12) allowed two runs on two hits over eight innings in a victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers Wednesday, Aug. 19, with two walks and six strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Although Chavez ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) has been the victim of poor run support for most of the season, this was only his second quality start in his last six outings. He will make his next start against the Seattle Mariners Tuesday, Aug. 25.

Athletics | Sonny Gray scratched Thursday

Thu, 13 Aug 2015 06:49:31 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Sonny Gray (back) was scratched from his start Thursday, Aug. 13, and SP Jesse Chavez will take on the Toronto Blue Jays in his place. Gray is dealing with back spasms.

Fantasy Tip: Chavez ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) faces a robust offense and isn't worth starting on FantasyScore today.

Athletics | Jesse Chavez staying in rotation

Tue, 04 Aug 2015 12:07:39 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Jesse Chavez will make his next start in the rotation, according to manager Bob Melvin. Chavez has a 5.68 ERA and opponents are hitting .311 off him in his last 11 starts. Chavez feels like he's getting more side-to-side movement on his pitches instead of downward action, and a slight mechanical tweak could be the fix.

Fantasy Tip: Chavez ($6,400, 12.8% of cap) has faded quickly and could be one more bad outing from being bumped from the rotation. He's not worth owning in mixed leauges right now and should be avoided at all costs on FantasyScore.

Athletics | Time to fade Jesse Chavez

Mon, 03 Aug 2015 22:19:50 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Jesse Chavez was pounded for six runs in just 3 2/3 innings Monday, Aug. 3, against the Baltimore Orioles. He has posted a 5.68 ERA over his past 11 games while opponents are hitting .311 against him during the span.

Fantasy Tip: Chavez ($6,400, 12.8% of cap) has been terrible lately, so FantasyScore players should avoid him like the plague. Early in the year he wasn't getting wins because the run support just wasn't there. Lately, he isn't getting run support, and he surely isn't helping himself with uneven performances.

Dodgers | Jesse Chavez of interest to the Dodgers

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 15:49:10 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Jesse Chavez is of trade interest to the Los Angeles Dodgers, as general manager Farhan Zaidi has always been interested in acquiring the Oakland righty, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Interestingly, Chavez ($6,400, 12.8% of cap) is starting against the Dodgers Wednesday, so Los Angeles will receive a first-hand look at the hurler. Chavez owns a crafty arm, but he is more of a matchup play than go-to starter, especially at FantasyScore. He would gain significant value starting for the Dodgers, though.

Athletics | Jesse Chavez in a rut

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 10:07:25 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Jesse Chavez has a 5.04 ERA in his last nine starts after posting an ERA of 2.38 in his first eight starts. He is 0-1 with a 2.16 ERA in eight career outings (all in relief) against the Los Angeles Dodgers, who he faces Wednesday, July 29.

Fantasy Tip: Chavez ($6,400, 12.8% of cap) is a dangerous FantasyScore option today, as the Dodgers rank fifth in baseball with a .752 OPS against right-handed pitchers this season.

Athletics | Jesse Chavez averse to sunshine?

Wed, 08 Jul 2015 18:06:49 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Jesse Chavez will start Thursday, July 9, against the New York Yankees in the afternoon road series finale. He is 1-5 with a 3.89 ERA in seven day game appearances (six starts) this season.

Fantasy Tip: Chavez ($5,500; or 11.0% of cap) is a neutral play in FantasyScore, as his ERA is actually not that bad, he just gets poor run support. And, he will be opposed by Masahiro Tanaka, who has been rather uneven lately.

Athletics | Jesse Chavez effective with short rest

Fri, 03 Jul 2015 04:44:07 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Jesse Chavez is 4-7 this season, but he has a 1.98 ERA in games where he has pitched on four days' rest. Chavez pitches Friday, July 3, against the Seattle Mariners.

Fantasy Tip: Chavez ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) may be an effective choice for this game in FantasyScore contests. He is up against Mariners starter J.A. Happ, who is winless in his past four appearances.

Athletics | No support for Jesse Chavez

Tue, 16 Jun 2015 20:19:00 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Jesse Chavez is set to start Wednesday, June 17, against the San Diego Padres. He has the lowest run support (1.76) in the majors.

Fantasy Tip: It has been downright unfair for Chavez ($5,800; or 11.6% of cap), who has a sparkling 2.64 ERA and a 2-6 win-loss record. He has lasted six or more innings in seven of his past eight starts, allowing three or fewer runs in five of his past six. He is a solid FantasyScore option despite his lack of run support.

Athletics | Jesse Chavez roughed up

Thu, 30 Apr 2015 17:28:57 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Jesse Chavez required 95 pitches to get through the fifth inning Thursday, April 30, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Chavez surrendered seven hits, three walks and four earned runs, while managing five strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Chavez ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) entered the game with an ERA of just 0.71 through 12.2 innings pitched. Chavez's .161 BABIP coming in, took a hit, as did the rest of his numbers. FantasyScore owners should wait and see how Chavez responds in his next outing before reinvesting.
