Pirates | Gaby Sanchez batting cleanup

Fri, 25 Jul 2014 14:53:48 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 1B Gaby Sanchez is batting fourth and playing first base Friday, July 25, against the Colorado Rockies.

Fantasy Tip: Sanchez faces lefty Brett Anderson in hitter-friendly Coors Field tonight. It is a favorable matchup given his .274/.346/.493 slash line against left-handed pitchers. Sanchez's low price in daily games makes him a viable option tonight.

Pirates | Acquiring Ike Davis

Fri, 18 Apr 2014 15:27:22 -0700

The Pittsburgh Pirates are working with the New York Mets to acquire 1B Ike Davis, and Davis has approved the trade.

Fantasy Tip: The Bucs clearly aren't satisfied with Travis Ishikawa in a platoon at first base with Gaby Sanchez. Davis will essentially replace Ishikawa in that role. Davis' value probably won't increase all that much, but his playing time should increase if he's in a straight platoon with Sanchez.

Pirates | Not a cookie cutter platoon at 1B

Tue, 15 Apr 2014 18:17:48 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said Tuesday, April 15, that the platoon at first base is not "cookie cutter" in nature, meaning left-handed hitting 1B Travis Ishikawa will not start against all right-handed pitching. Hurdle said he anticipated giving 1B Gaby Sanchez more at-bats against right-handed pitching. He has made just three starts through the first 13 games. "It's not all hard numbers," Hurdle said. "We're kind of old school here. We'll look at what our eyes tell us and what our gut tells us."

Fantasy Tip: Neither Ishikawa nor Sanchez have a whole lot of fantasy appeal outside of the deepest of NL-only formats. First base is kind of a black hole in the Steel City.
