Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson could be used more in passing plays this season with the departure of RB Toby Gerhart.
Fantasy Tip: This could be a good thing and a bad thing. If he's asked to be on the field more in pass protection, it could add wear and tear to his 29-year-old body. It would be nice for PPR owners for him to catch more passes, but the risk probably isn't worth that reward.

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (groin) is close to full strength and plans on participating in offseason workouts when he does get back to full strength. There is no timetable for his return.
Fantasy Tip: Everything appears to be on track for Peterson to be ready for training camp as long as there are no setbacks. Peterson is still the top running back in fantasy football if healthy.

Minnesota Vikings RB Matt Asiata is working to serve as the primary backup to RB Adrian Peterson now that RB Toby Gerhart (Jaguars) is gone. The team elected to keep the exclusive rights free agent, signing him to a one-year, $570,000 contract this month. General manager Rick Spielman said the team is looking for depth at running back, but the team hasn't displayed an urgency to address the spot the first two weeks of free agency.
Fantasy Tip: Depending on how the club proceeds during the offseason, Asiata might be a nice late-round fantasy flier, and certainly a handcuff for Peterson owners. Asiata's stock will be better determined after the draft and into the preseason.

Minnesota Vikings general manager Rick Spielman said the team is looking for depth at running back, but if they do not add any bodies, practice squad holdovers RBs Joe Banyard and Bradley Randle might get a chance to push for a roster spot behind RBs Adrian Peterson and Matt Asiata.

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson is lobbying for the team to sign free-agent QB Michael Vick (Eagles).

It is expected that Minnesota Vikings RB Toby Gerhart will leave via free agency rather than be signed by the squad. Gerhart is looking for a bigger role than just RB Adrian Peterson's backup.

Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer said RB Adrian Peterson (groin) is doing great in his recovery from a groin injury and should be ready for the team's minicamp in April.
Fantasy Tip: Assuming there are no setbacks during the offseason program, Peterson should be back at full speed by training camp and will continue to be the top running back in fantasy football.

Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Norv Turner said he expects RB Adrian Peterson to catch 50-60 passes out of the backfield in 2014.
Fantasy Tip: If those numbers play out, that would almost double Peterson's catch total from a year ago, and would obviously increase his value in point-per-reception leagues. This is something to monitor as training camp gets underway in the fall to see exactly how he is being used.

Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Norv Turner would like to get RB Adrian Peterson the ball in space more starting in 2014. Peterson caught 43 passes for 436 yards in 2009 with QB Brett Favre. "He's run the ball in closed-in quarters with a lot of defenders there and he makes a lot of long runs, making people miss or running over people," Turner said. "It's hard to do, but we would like to get him in space and getting the field spread a little bit better for him." Peterson has had more carries against eight-man fronts in the past two years than any running back in the league.
Fantasy Tip: Turner as the OC should do wonders for AD's point-per-reception value. He's clearly still a top-five back in any format. The solution at the quarterback position will also likely go a long way in determining just how productive Peterson and the Vikings' offense is in 2014.

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson endorsed head coach Mike Zimmer as the team's new leader. "I'm just looking forward to heading in the right direction. I feel like the organization did a great job of bringing in Zimmer and offensive coordinator Norv Turner," Peterson said. "I feel like we're putting the pieces in the right place so I'm just excited to see who all we bring in (to coach) other positions and to see which direction as far as bringing in players to help us accomplish our goal of winning a championship."
