Vikings | Adrian Peterson may not play again in 2016

Wed, 07 Dec 2016 11:05:59 -0800

Updating a previous report, Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (knee) said he will only return this season if the Vikings are still in playoff contention.

Fantasy Tip: The Vikings have lost six of their last seven games, so there is a chance that Peterson sits out the rest of the season. He may see limited snaps if he does return and could be at least a flex option in some leagues.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson running, cutting

Wed, 07 Dec 2016 09:56:09 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (knee) said Wednesday, Dec. 7, that he has begun running and cutting, and he expects to get back sometime this season.

Fantasy Tip: It might be too late for him to be a factor in fantasy, but the potential is still there if you can afford the roster spot.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson ahead of schedule

Tue, 29 Nov 2016 10:52:05 -0800

Updating a previous story, Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (knee) is "ahead of schedule", according to head coach Mike Zimmer, who told reporters Tuesday, Nov. 29, was not the first day Peterson was able to run sprints off to the side of practice.

Fantasy Tip: There is still no timetable for his return, but it is looking more probable by the day. Peterson still has to get in something resembling football shape before he is ready to handle significant work on the field, and that may not happen before most fantasy playoffs are wrapping up. Nevertheless, the news is still encouraging and bodes well for his return to the field this season.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson running again

Tue, 29 Nov 2016 10:24:22 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (knee) was seen running several short sprints during the open portion of practice Tuesday, Nov. 29.

Fantasy Tip: Obviously, Peterson still has a long ways to go in order to find his way on the field before the end of the season, but he is doing a fine job of helping his remaining owners keep the faith. Whether Peterson is able to reward that faith is another matter entirely. The Vikings' offensive line is playing about as poorly as any front five in the league, and Peterson wasn't exactly tearing it up before going down (1.6 yards per carry). He's worth a stash, but he's unlikely to make much of a meaningful impact this season.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson not cleared to run yet

Thu, 24 Nov 2016 05:54:31 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (knee) has yet to be cleared to run on the field, but he is running on an underwater treadmill while putting 30 percent of his body weight on his knee. The next step will be running in the anti-gravity pool and then normal running. His return date is unknown until he runs under normal conditions to see how the knee reacts.

Fantasy Tip: Three months from surgery would be Week 16 on Dec. 24. That would be a best-case scenario. If you're looking at a deep playoff run and have the space, he's worth the risk to stash.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson back in Week 15?

Mon, 21 Nov 2016 20:17:00 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (knee) is making progress in his recovery from surgery to repair a lateral meniscus tear in his right knee and he could be back on the field my mid-to-late December, league sources said Monday, Nov. 21. He had an exam late last week and might start running this week. He might return for the Week 15 game against the Indianapolis Colts or the Week 16 road game against the Green Bay Packers.

Fantasy Tip: If you have the roster flexibility and are in the hunt for a playoff spot in your fantasy league, it isn't a bad idea to stash him away just in case. He could help plenty of fantasy owners to a championship. At the very least, squirreling him away on your roster also keeps Peterson away from your rivals.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson resumes light running

Thu, 17 Nov 2016 15:48:20 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (knee) has resumed light running. He's still receiving treatment on his knee following September surgery to repair a torn meniscus, and his timetable for a return "continues to be December."

Fantasy Tip: If you're desperate and have room on the bench, Peterson makes for a great stash, as it's looking possible that he'll be able to return before the conclusion of the campaign. In fact, the Vikings may do everything in their power to get him back on the field, considering how dreadfully bad their league-worst running game has been, and if a playoff berth comes down to the final weeks, don't be surprised if he does indeed suit up again for Minnesota. If you're in a league that runs through Week 17, you should be especially enticed with this development.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson remains without timetable

Mon, 14 Nov 2016 12:35:32 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (knee) continues his rehab from meniscus surgery, but head coach Mike Zimmer told reporters Monday, Nov. 14, he has "no idea" as to whether or not Peterson will play at any point this season.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson is eligible to return to practice and come off the Reserve/Injured list this week, but that apparently has no chance of happening. With the Minnesota offense is in such utter disarray at this point, it would be hard to justify bringing him back anyway. Especially considering Peterson is due nearly $12 million in 2017 - the final year of his contract - the team may choose to move on from the 31-year-old workhorse, meaning he may have already played his final snap as a Viking.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson focused on 2016 return

Mon, 26 Sep 2016 09:25:51 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (knee) is focused solely on playing again this season, according to a report from Pro Football Talk.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson has to sit out until Week 11, but it would be mistake to rule him out for the season given his track record. Owners in deeper leagues or those with IR spots are advised to hold as long as possible in part because AP is one of the few true feature backs around, but Minnesota's offensive line has been so bad so far that he should be considered no more than a RB2 even if he does return. Jerick McKinnon will continue to serve as the lead back during his Peterson's absence.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson hopes for rapid recovery

Sat, 24 Sep 2016 15:50:28 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (knee) has told people in and around the organization that he believes he can be ready to play when he is eligible to be activated from the Reserve/Injured list in eight weeks, according to sources. It is believed that it will take at least one month before doctors will be able to tell whether an expedited return for Peterson is possible.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson will miss at least half of the season because of the injury, but owners should monitor the situation to see if he will be able to play in the last few games. Jerick McKinnon and Matt Asiata will share work while Peterson is out. McKinnon can be a low-end No. 2 running back or a flex option in most leagues, while Asiata can be a flex option in deeper leagues.
