Vikings | Adrian Peterson set to walk?

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 23:26:44 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson is likely in his final year with the Vikings as his salary hikes to $18 million in 2017, and QB Teddy Bridgewater is due for a large salary increase, according to beat writer Charley Walters.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson, 31, carries some risk this season because the offense is shifting to more shotgun sets, which Peterson struggled with last year. Jerick McKinnon figures to handle a lot of third downs. The upside for Peterson is lacking this year, but he remains a midrange RB1.

Chargers | Melvin Gordon seeks help for fumbling

Thu, 21 Jul 2016 20:53:20 -0700

San Diego Chargers RB Melvin Gordon worked with Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson this offseason to help fix his fumbling issues.

Fantasy Tip: Gordon is coming off a disappointing rookie season, and while it is too soon to label him a bust, don't count on him being more than a RB3 in 2016.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson has to adapt to shotgun

Thu, 21 Jul 2016 07:41:40 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson will be part of a more shotgun-centric offense this season, and he struggled to run out of the gun early last year. The team shifted its offense to run more plays under center afterwards. Peterson vowed to become a better receiver this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson has proven time and time again not to count him out, but he has a lot working against him from a fantasy perspective this season. He's 31, has never been a great receiver, and the offense seems to be shifting to more of a spread offense. This will benefit Jerick McKinnon. Peterson remains a midrange RB1, but all of these factors make him a little less attractive in fantasy. McKinnon is an attractive RB5, but his usage outlook continues to gain steam. He could continue to move up the fantasy pecking order.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson above and beyond

Tue, 12 Jul 2016 20:08:04 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson is working out in Houston at a training facility he helped to open. He is going through grueling workouts, trying to put his various training disciplines - hill sprints, weight lifting, agility drills, core work, pool training, boxing and MMA sparring - in one place. Peterson also runs 10 40-yard dashes, with 30 seconds' rest in between each. The slowest of them should be no worse than 4.49 to 4.55 seconds.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson is performing at a high level and despite being 31 years old, he is in tip top shape and ready to perform as a first-round fantasy selection should. Peterson is showing no signs of slowing down.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson not worried about age

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 15:33:34 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson thinks his body can hold up as long as he wants to play in the NFL, but he doesn't know how much longer he wants to go through the rigors of the league.

"Training camp, going through the grind, OTAs and all that, that will definitely be the deciding factor," Peterson said. "Physically, I'll be good. It's just mentally, like with OTAs, I'm out there practicing, I'm going, I'm putting in work. But it's so repetitive that it's more suited toward the young guys and getting them into the system. It gets kind of boring."

Fantasy Tip: The NFL offseason is a tedious process, but Peterson will be good to go for the 2016 season nonetheless. As is the case every year when he's healthy, he's a top-tier RB1 choice coming off an NFL-best 1,485 rushing yards in 2015.

Vikings | More receiving for Adrian Peterson?

Tue, 31 May 2016 17:13:24 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson could be more involved in the passing game this season, particularly in shotgun formation, according to ESPN.com's Ben Goessling. Peterson said he'd like to improve as a pass-catcher and has been working in that area this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson has held his own in the passing game throughout his career, but he hasn't been as effective as he can be in that area, either. If he is used more as a pass-catcher then he'll be even more valuable in PPR leagues, of course. He's a mid-range RB1 in both standard and PPR formats.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson may play in preseason

Fri, 06 May 2016 14:26:06 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson said he may receive some work during the preseason. "I feel like getting out there and playing a little bit," Peterson said. "It's something that once that time comes around, I'll have a better feel for, like, 'Hey, I need to get out there just to kind of get the legs moving and get the pads (on) a little bit.' I can tell you, though, I'm definitely more itching towards playing a little more in the preseason than I have the past seven, eight years." Peterson has not received a carry in any of the last four preseasons.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson probably would receive only a handful of touches this preseason if he plays because the team wants to make sure he is healthy for the regular season. Adrian Peterson is one of the best running backs in the league and should be in the conversation for the No. 1 overall pick in fantasy drafts.

NFL | Ezekiel Elliott draws big comparison

Thu, 31 Mar 2016 14:29:27 -0700

Ohio State RB Ezekiel Elliott was compared to Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson by an anonymous AFC running backs coach. "It was hard to find weaknesses for Adrian coming out and it's hard to find weaknesses for Elliott," the coach said. "I don't usually believe in taking running backs in the first round, but Elliott is one of those guys you make an exception for just like Adrian Peterson."

Fantasy Tip: Elliott is considered the best running back in this year's draft class and could be taken in the first 15 picks, which is rare for a running back. He has all the tools to be a successful player at the next level and should make an immediate impact in fantasy football, too. His fantasy value can be better gauged once we know where he'll play, though.

Vikings | Ground game hurting Teddy Bridgewater?

Fri, 26 Feb 2016 21:18:36 -0800

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater's development has been slowed because the offense heavily features RB Adrian Peterson, according to head coach Mike Zimmer. Zimmer added that he believes Bridgewater can take charge if needed, and the offense just needs time to mold together to use the strengths of both players.

Fantasy Tip: As long as Peterson is healthy and performing well, Bridgewater is likely to play second fiddle in the offense. He is a low-range QB2 at this point.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson's role won't be reduced

Thu, 25 Feb 2016 09:27:17 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson's role won't be reduced this year at age 31, according to head coach Mike Zimmer.

Fantasy Tip: As long as Peterson is around and healthy, Minnesota remains a run-first squad. At 30 in 2015, Peterson led the NFL in rushing and doesn't appear to be slowing down. He's definitely at the top of the pack for starting fantasy running backs again in 2016.
