Vikings | Adrian Peterson refutes report

Thu, 28 Aug 2014 11:57:00 -0700

Updating a previous report, Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson denied a report that said he told Dallas Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones that he would like to play for the Cowboys at some point. "This was a casual conversation between NFL colleagues in which I never indicated I wanted to leave the Vikings," Peterson said in a statement. "I have always said I understand the NFL is a business but that I would love to retire as a Viking."

Fantasy Tip: Peterson will be with the Vikings for at least this season and probably more in the future. He is a candidate for the first overall pick in fantasy drafts.

Cowboys | DAL interests Adrian Peterson

Thu, 28 Aug 2014 10:01:08 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson had a phone conversation with Dallas Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones in June where he stated he would be interested in joining the Cowboys when his time with the Vikings is over. Jones said he has not talked with Peterson since the phone call and does not believe that the call should be considered tampering.

Fantasy Tip: There is nothing to suggest that Peterson will be a member of the Cowboys in the near future. Peterson will continue to play for the Vikings and is one of the top running backs in fantasy.

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson missed practice Wednesday, Aug. 20, due to an unspecified personal matter.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson won't play this weekend

Thu, 14 Aug 2014 15:46:44 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson will not play in the team's preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals Saturday, Aug. 16. He played in one series in the team's third preseason game last year, but other than that, he hasn't had a carry in the preseason since 2011.

Fantasy Tip: There's nothing to see here. The Vikes won't put AD in harm's way during the preseason, although he may see a series of action next week, if at all. Peterson remains one of the few options worth considering as your No. 1 overall fantasy pick.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson improving pass catching

Tue, 12 Aug 2014 10:02:19 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson appears to be improving his pass-catching skills. He dropped one pass in practice Monday, Aug. 11, but had some nice catches.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson is already one of the safest selections with one of the top three picks in fantasy drafts. Improving his pass-catching skills would go a long way in making him even more valuable, too, especially in point-per-reception formats.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson sits

Fri, 08 Aug 2014 21:20:13 -0700

As expected, Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (rest) dressed for the preseason opener against the Oakland Raiders Friday, Aug. 8, but he did not play. Peterson hasn't had a carry in the preseason since the 2011 campaign.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson is unlikely to see many carries in the exhibition games, if he see any at all. Fantasy owners are pleased with seeing him with a baseball cap on the sidelines, as their cornerstone is not risking injury in meaningless games. He'll once again be one of the top fantasy running backs in the league.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson excited about offense

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 13:50:20 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson said he is looking forward to playing in the team's new offense because it is more versatile than the one the team had been using for the last several seasons. "Let's call it what it is: I thought in the past, we've been predictable," Peterson said. "I'm sure you guys wrote stories about us being predictable the past seven years. You won't be able to write that story this year. That's pretty much all I'm saying. You won't be able to do that, because this offense is so versatile."

Fantasy Tip: Peterson could get more involved in the passing game in 2014, which will only help his fantasy value. He should be gone within the first few picks in all fantasy leagues.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson could sit out preseason

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 10:10:57 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson does not need to play in the preseason to show something to the coaching staff, according to head coach Mike Zimmer. Zimmer said Peterson could get a few carries during the preseason if Peterson asks to play.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson has shown he is one of the best running backs in the league and does not need to prove anything in preseason games. Peterson should be a top five pick in all fantasy leagues.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson working on pass catching

Sat, 21 Jun 2014 09:19:22 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson said he has been working on his pass-catching skills, because he likely will be asked to catch more passes in offensive coordinator Norv Turner's system. The team sees Peterson as an every-down running back, so he may have to pick up some blitzes on passing downs.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson should be a top-five pick in all fantasy leagues this season and becoming more of a pass catcher will only add to his value.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson plans to stick around

Thu, 19 Jun 2014 09:15:42 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson has no plans to be done playing football by the time the team opens their new stadium in 2016. His current contract runs through the 2017 season, but he's the only running back in the league with a salary cap hit of more than $10 million this year, and the team could cut him without a cap penalty after next year.

Eagles | Expect Jeremy Maclin to be ready

Sat, 07 Jun 2014 06:51:43 -0700

The Philadelphia Eagles fully expect Jeremy Maclin (knee) to be ready to go for the start of the 2014 season, according to general manager Howie Roseman. "I think it depends on the player. We saw Adrian Peterson come back after six months, and did he win the MVP award after that? So I think it depends on the genetics. And all I know is what our doctors are telling us, and he's doing a great job in his rehab. We fully expect him to be ready to go once the season starts."

Vikings | Adrian Peterson could see more pass plays

Sat, 12 Apr 2014 15:16:52 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson could be used more in passing plays this season with the departure of RB Toby Gerhart.

Fantasy Tip: This could be a good thing and a bad thing. If he's asked to be on the field more in pass protection, it could add wear and tear to his 29-year-old body. It would be nice for PPR owners for him to catch more passes, but the risk probably isn't worth that reward.

Vikings | Matt Asiata takes aim at No. 2 job

Mon, 24 Mar 2014 18:16:22 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Matt Asiata is working to serve as the primary backup to RB Adrian Peterson now that RB Toby Gerhart (Jaguars) is gone. The team elected to keep the exclusive rights free agent, signing him to a one-year, $570,000 contract this month. General manager Rick Spielman said the team is looking for depth at running back, but the team hasn't displayed an urgency to address the spot the first two weeks of free agency.

Fantasy Tip: Depending on how the club proceeds during the offseason, Asiata might be a nice late-round fantasy flier, and certainly a handcuff for Peterson owners. Asiata's stock will be better determined after the draft and into the preseason.

Fri, 21 Feb 2014 13:27:09 -0800

Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer said RB Adrian Peterson (groin) is doing great in his recovery from a groin injury and should be ready for the team's minicamp in April.

Fantasy Tip: Assuming there are no setbacks during the offseason program, Peterson should be back at full speed by training camp and will continue to be the top running back in fantasy football.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson expected to catch more passes

Thu, 20 Feb 2014 10:31:24 -0800

Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Norv Turner said he expects RB Adrian Peterson to catch 50-60 passes out of the backfield in 2014.

Fantasy Tip: If those numbers play out, that would almost double Peterson's catch total from a year ago, and would obviously increase his value in point-per-reception leagues. This is something to monitor as training camp gets underway in the fall to see exactly how he is being used.

Vikings | Want to get Adrian Peterson in space

Thu, 06 Feb 2014 15:16:07 -0800

Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Norv Turner would like to get RB Adrian Peterson the ball in space more starting in 2014. Peterson caught 43 passes for 436 yards in 2009 with QB Brett Favre. "He's run the ball in closed-in quarters with a lot of defenders there and he makes a lot of long runs, making people miss or running over people," Turner said. "It's hard to do, but we would like to get him in space and getting the field spread a little bit better for him." Peterson has had more carries against eight-man fronts in the past two years than any running back in the league.

Fantasy Tip: Turner as the OC should do wonders for AD's point-per-reception value. He's clearly still a top-five back in any format. The solution at the quarterback position will also likely go a long way in determining just how productive Peterson and the Vikings' offense is in 2014.

The Vikings were ranked 23rd in the league in passing offense last year, and they were ranked 31st in the league in 2012. "I think (Turner) is going to be the perfect guy to come in and get us on the right path."

Thu, 23 Jan 2014 06:50:56 -0800

Updating an earlier report, Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (groin) will have a four- to six-week recovery period from his groin surgery.
