Orioles | Dexter Fowler of interest to Baltimore

Wed, 10 Feb 2016 14:45:04 -0800

Free-agent OF Dexter Fowler (Cubs) is a potential fit for the Balitmore Orioles, if they sign free-agent SP Yovani Gallardo (Rangers), according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: A move to the Orioles wouldn't hurt Fowler's fantasy upside as much as other possible landing spots, and he could be a sneaky value again in 2016, despite a career-best season last year. He returned 2015 owners 102 runs, 17 home runs and 20 stolen bases with a .250/.346/.411 slash line. It is also worth noting, Fowler should be held in higher regard in points leagues and formats using on-base percentage.

MLB | Dexter Fowler out in the cold

Wed, 10 Feb 2016 09:11:13 -0800

Free-agent OF Dexter Fowler (Cubs) may struggle to get more than the two-year, $20 million deal that the Los Angeles Dodgers gave 2B Howie Kendrick, according to MLB executives.

Fantasy Tip: Fowler had a career-high 17 home runs and 46 RBI and also stole 20 bags with the Chicago Cubs in 2015. In the right situation, he could be a 20-20 man. Unfortunately for him, he'll likely have to settle for a short, incentive-laden contract with spring training right around the corner. Stay tuned on where he lands.

Rangers | Texas looking at Dexter Fowler

Mon, 01 Feb 2016 09:43:20 -0800

The Texas Rangers are in play to sign free-agent OF Dexter Fowler (Cubs).

Fantasy Tip: If Fowler were to land in Texas, he'd likely be competing for playing time in either left or center field. He had a career-high 17 homers and 46 RBI for the Chicago Cubs last year, and a move to another hitter-friendly park would keep him relevant in the late middle rounds of mixed leagues for outfield depth.

MLB | Chicago teams eyeing Dexter Fowler

Wed, 27 Jan 2016 17:57:47 -0800

The Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox are both interested in free-agent OF Dexter Fowler (Cubs), according to multiple sources.

Fantasy Tip: The soon-to-be 30-year-old Fowler is a reliable source of runs scored and stolen bases and experienced the best season of his career in 2015. He batted .250 with 17 home runs, 46 RBIs and 20 steals, along with 102 runs scored, while serving as the Cubs' leadoff hitter last year. Fowler should be taken in the middle rounds of drafts for single-universe leagues and cavernous mixed leagues.

Giants | SF active in outfield market

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 10:17:17 -0800

The San Francisco Giants are active in the free-agent outfield market, and they are open to any of free-agent OFs Yoenis Cespedes (Mets), Justin Upton (Padres), Jason Heyward (Cardinals), Alex Gordon (Royals), Dexter Fowler (Cubs) and Denard Span (Nationals).

Fantasy Tip: With Angel Pagan's health being an issue the last couple of seasons and after losing Nori Aoki in free agency, the Giants are desperately trying to build more depth. Stay tuned for which of these free-agent outfielders falls within their monetary constraints.

Giants | SF prefers outfield defense

Tue, 08 Dec 2015 14:16:47 -0800

The San Francisco Giants are talking with free-agent outfielders but prefer free-agent OFs Jason Heyward (Cardinals), Alex Gordon (Royals) or Dexter Fowler (Cubs) over OFs Yoenis Cespedes (Mets) and Justin Upton (Padres) due to defensive reasons.

Fantasy Tip: The free-agent outfield market has been slow to develop, so stay tuned. With San Fran being a pitching-friendly environment, any of these outfielders would be slightly less appealing if they were to sign with the Giants.

Giants | SF interested in Gerardo Parra, Dexter Fowler

Mon, 07 Dec 2015 16:43:08 -0800

The San Francisco Giants are interested in free-agent OFs Gerardo Parra (Orioles) and Dexter Fowler (Cubs).

Fantasy Tip: Fowler has 20-20 potential, although a move to a pitcher-friendly park would slightly lower his fantasy ceiling. Parra will likely be an afterthought for owners in shallow mixed leagues because of his precipitous fall after being traded to the Baltimore Orioles. Look for him as a steal as a late-round flier.

Mets | Mets are eyeing the outfield market

Fri, 04 Dec 2015 15:04:23 -0800

Free-agent OFs Denard Span (Nationals) and Gerardo Parra (Orioles) are of interest to the New York Mets, but the team is not interested in free-agent OF Dexter Fowler (Cubs), according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Parra, Span and Fowler are all late-round outfield targets who offer modest cross-category production. Span would likely slide into a lead-off role, but he hasn't been able to stay healthy and has averaged just 112 games per season over the past five years. Parra faded significantly after his relocation to the Balitmore Orioles in the second half, and the jury is still out on whether he can produce with full-time at-bats. Continue to check back for updates, but an offseason outfield addition wouldn't be a plus for Juan Lagares.

Cubs | Dexter Fowler headed for free agency

Fri, 13 Nov 2015 14:43:15 -0800

Chicago Cubs OF Dexter Fowler rejected the Chicago Cubs' one-year, $15.8 million qualifying offer Friday, Nov. 13.

Fantasy Tip: Fowler was a spark plug atop the Chicago lineup in 2015, and he scored 102 runs and flirted with a 20-20 season, as he hit 17 home runs and swiped 20 bags. Most importantly, though, Fowler stayed healthy and played a career-high 156 games. Stay tuned for updates on where he signs, as it'll greatly impact his fantasy upside. It will be tough for him to land in a more favorable spot, though.

Mariners | Seattle wants athletic OF

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 10:13:33 -0800

The Seattle Mariners may be inclined to trade for the likes of New York Yankees OF Brett Gardner, St. Louis Cardinals OFs Jon Jay or Peter Bourjos, Texas Rangers OF Leonys Martin or Boston Red Sox OF Jackie Bradley Jr. rather than sign impending free-agent OFs Dexter Fowler (Cubs), Austin Jackson (Cubs) or Denard Span (Nationals).

Fantasy Tip: Gardner is likely Seattle's top trade target and is the biggest fantasy name of the bunch. A move to pitcher-friendly Safeco Field would turn many off to Gardner, but that could make him a better value pick in 2016 fantasy drafts for his speed.
