Cubs | Dexter Fowler sitting vs. Milwaukee

Sun, 24 Jul 2016 08:14:30 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Dexter Fowler is not in the starting lineup Sunday, July 24. C/OF Willson Contreras is starting in left field and batting fifth against Milwaukee Brewers SP Junior Guerra Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Fowler returned from the disabled list with a bang Friday, July 22, and he projects to see the odd game off given the depth Chicago boasts. He's a must-own outfielder in all settings because of his five-category potential. Contreras also should be owned in all leagues given his eligibility at catcher and respectable .278/.376/.491 slash line through 125 plate appearances.

Cubs | Dexter Fowler back in leadoff spot

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 15:08:21 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Dexter Fowler (hamstring) is back off the disabled list and is hitting leadoff against Milwaukee Brewers SP Jimmy Nelson Friday, July 22. As a result, 2B/OF Javier Baez will start on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: Fowler hasn't played in a major league game in over a month, so it's understandable to be hesitant to throw him back into starting lineups immediately. But keep in mind he's been great for fantasy owners with his .290/.398/.483 slash line, seven homers, 41 runs, 28 RBI and six steals. Baez will bounce around as a utility player, but solid playing time may be harder to come by now.

Cubs | Dexter Fowler back from DL

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 14:00:15 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Dexter Fowler (hamstring) is being activated from the disabled list Friday, July 22, according to a source. Fowler has been out of the lineup since he was injured June 18. RP Spencer Patton and OF Albert Almora will be sent to Class AAA Iowa.

Fantasy Tip: Fowler may be a little rusty with some time off, so it's understandable if you're hesitant to throw him back into seasonal lineups immediately. But he's been a boon to fantasy owners with his .290/.398/.483 slash line and seven home runs, 41 runs, 28 RBI and six steals. Almora is a promising youngster who was the casualty of a stacked roster. He showed well, hitting .265 with two homers and nine RBI but has an uphill battle to climb for playing time moving forward. He should be kept in most dynasty leagues, however.

Cubs | Dexter Fowler begins rehab assignment

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 18:11:31 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Dexter Fowler (hamstring) started a rehab assignment with Class AAA Iowa Wednesday, July 20.

Fantasy Tip: Fowler's rehab assignment is expected to be brief and he should remain stashed in all fantasy formats because of his ability to contribute in all major statistical categories. OF Albert Almora is likely to be optioned to the minors when Fowler is activated from the disabled list and C/OF Wilson Contreras and INF/OF Javier Baez could see a reduction in playing time.

Cubs | Timeline for Dexter Fowler, Jorge Soler

Mon, 18 Jul 2016 13:58:42 -0700

Updating a previous report, Chicago Cubs OF Dexter Fowler (hamstring) could return later this week, but OF Jorge Soler (hamstring) will need a longer rehab assignment, according to manager Joe Maddon.

Fantasy Tip: Fowler was close to returning before the All-Star break, so expect him to be 100% healthy and back sooner than later. He's a must-start outfielder in all leagues because of his five-category contributions. Soler is worth owning in deep mixed and NL-only leagues because of his upside, but he likely won't see everyday at-bats, which limits his value. Reiterating a previous tip, Willson Contreras and Javier Baez could see fewer starts once both outfielders are back, and Albert Almora might be optioned back to Class AAA Iowa.

Cubs | Dexter Fowler, Jorge Soler ready for Iowa

Mon, 18 Jul 2016 13:24:29 -0700

Chicago Cubs OFs Dexter Fowler (hamstring) and Jorge Soler (hamstring) are expected to begin their rehab assignments with Class AAA Iowa Tuesday, July 19.

Fantasy Tip: Look for Fowler to pick up where he left off once he's back with the Cubs, and he's a must-start outfielder given his five-category returns (41 runs, seven home runs, 28 RBI, six stolen bases and .290/.398/.483 slash line through 64 games). Soler's flashed his upside, but he's not as sure a bet as Fowler. Still, Soler had 10 runs, three home runs, seven RBI and a 1.027 OPS through 15 games prior to the injury. He should be owned in all deep mixed leagues. Once Fowler and Soler return, Albert Almora is likely to be demoted, and Willson Contreras and Javier Baez could see a slight cut in playing time.
