Pirates | Aramis Ramirez, Pedro Alvarez out Wednesday

Wed, 07 Oct 2015 11:55:18 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 3B Aramis Ramirez and 1B Pedro Alvarez are not in the starting lineup for the wild-card game Wednesday, Oct. 7. 3B Josh Harrison is starting at third base and hitting second, while 1B Sean Rodriguez is at first base and is batting eighth against Chicago Cubs SP Jake Arrieta.

Fantasy Tip: It's hard to recommend anyone against Arrieta, who had the best second half of any pitcher in baseball history. However, Harrison ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) is attractive at his price and lineup position. Rodriguez ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) should be avoided.

Tue, 15 Sep 2015 15:11:38 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Gregory Polanco is not in the lineup against Chicago Cubs left-handed SP Jon Lester for Game 2 of a doubleheader Tuesday, Sept. 15. 1B Sean Rodriguez is starting in right field and batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Rodriguez ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) isn't much of an offensive force with a .251 average (53-for-211) and just four home runs this year. He doesn't appeal to FantasyScore users.

Pirates | Gregory Polanco given a breather

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Gregory Polanco is not in the lineup against San Francisco Giants left-handed SP Madison Bumgarner Friday, Aug. 21. 1B Sean Rodriguez draws the start in right field and is hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Rodriguez ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) has only 43 hits in 188 at-bats this year (.229 average) with three home runs and nine RBI. He's one to avoid on FantasyScore tonight against the MadBum while hitting at the bottom of the lineup.

Pirates | Neil Walker resting vs. 'Zona

Wed, 19 Aug 2015 13:28:11 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 2B Neil Walker is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, Aug. 19. 1B Sean Rodriguez is starting at second base and batting eighth against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Robbie Ray Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Walker ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) is having an inconsistent season but has been an extra-base machine in August. He has two doubles, two triples and three home runs to fuel a .500 slugging percentage. Make sure to avoid him in all formats Wednesday, though. Theoretically, Rodriguez ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) owns the handedness advantage against Ray ($5,100, 10.2% of cap), but Rodriguez is sporting an uninspiring .561 OPS over 80 plate appearances against lefties this season. FantasyScore players should likely aim higher.

Pirates | Starling Marte out Saturday

Sat, 15 Aug 2015 15:28:18 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Starling Marte (hand) is out of the lineup Saturday, Aug. 15, with OF Sean Rodriguez hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Sean-Rod ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) faces lefty Jon Niese, but his .215-3-7 line doesn't bode well for a FantasyScore start.

Pittsburgh Pirates 3B Aramis Ramirez is not in the starting lineup Thursday, Aug. 13. 1B Sean Rodriguez is starting at the hot corner and hitting eighth against St. Louis Cardinals SP Lance Lynn.

Fantasy Tip: Rodriguez ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) hasn't done much at all at the plate this year and should be left alone in all formats for the start tonight.

Pirates | Starling Marte leaves with hand injury

Wed, 12 Aug 2015 18:18:28 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Starling Marte (hand) left the game against the St. Louis Cardinals Wednesday, Aug. 12, due to discomfort in his left hand. He suffered the injury in his first at-bat after fouling off a pitch from SP Michael Wacha in the first inning but remained in the game after being examined by the assistant trainer. Marte left the game after completing his second at-bat in the top of the third inning and was replaced by INF/OF Sean Rodriguez.

Fantasy Tip: The team said Marte ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) was being treated and evaluated but the severity of his injury remains unknown. Check back for further updates on his status.

Pirates | Neil Walker sitting out

Fri, 07 Aug 2015 11:51:44 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 2B Neil Walker is not in the lineup against Los Angeles Dodgers left-handed SP Clayton Kershaw Friday, Aug. 7. 1B Sean Rodriguez is starting at the keystone and hitting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: You shouldn't even consider starting Rodriguez ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) for a second against the dominant Kershaw. Rodriguez has a weak average of just .217 (34-for-157) with only three home runs and seven RBI.
