The Oakland Athletics acquired RP Luke Gregerson from the San Diego Padres Tuesday, Dec. 3, in exchange for OF Seth Smith.
Fantasy Tip: The A's have seriously bolstered the back end of their bullpen the last several days with the acquisitions of Gregerson and Jim Johnson. Johnson figures to get the first crack at closing duties, but Ryan Cook or Gregerson could get some opportunities if he falters. Cook likely would have the upper hand on the ninth inning over Gregerson.

The San Diego Padres acquired OF Seth Smith from the Oakland Athletics Tuesday, Dec. 3. It's unclear what the A's received in return.
Fantasy Tip: Smith will be a part-time outfielder/pinch hitter at best in San Diego. He moves from one pitcher-friendly ball park to another. He's purely an option for NL-only leaguers with deep outfield arrangements.

Oakland Athletics OF Seth Smith (eyes) underwent touch-up Lasik eye surgery to fix an astigmatism, and he said he "should be good to go."

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick (wrist) is dealing with a right wrist sprain and will undergo an MRI exam.
Fantasy Tip: This is the same wrist that robbed Reddick of time earlier this year and sapped him of much of his power. Should it land him back on the disabled list, we could assume that he'll miss the rest of the season or something close to it. Seth Smith and Chris B. Young would likely platoon in his spot.

Oakland Athletics OF Seth Smith entered the game Monday, July 29, against the Toronto Blue Jays with a 29 at-bat hitless streak, but he snapped out of it with two hits in three at-bats with a double, RBI and walk.

Oakland Athletics OF Seth Smith has only seven hits in his last 53 at-bats over 16 games to drop his average to a season-low .255, and he said his timing has been off at the plate. "I'm working to get back where I've been most of the season," he said. "My swing is fine, but my timing is a little messed up, and timing hurts the most – if it's your swing that's the problem, you can fake it. If your timing is messed up, it's hard to fake and keep your head above water."

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick (wrist) is expected to start a rehab assignment with Double-A Stockton Monday, May 27, and with Triple-A Sacramento Tuesday, May 28, and he hopes to rejoin the team during their homestand next weekend.
Fantasy Tip: If Reddick gets through a short minor league rehab assignment without any setback, he should return to the starting outfield alignment in Oakland shortly after that. That'll mean even less frequent playing time for Seth Smith and Chris B. Young. Reddick's wrist troubles likely played a part in his slow start this year. If he's healthy, he could turn that around quickly. Consider picking him back up when he returns.

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick (wrist) will join the team and take batting practice Friday, May 24. Reddick will be sent out for a rehab assignment after that if he doesn't have any setbacks.
Fantasy Tip: This is very positive news for Reddick, who was considering the possibility that he might need to have surgery on his wrist. When he eventually returns, it'll mean even less playing time for Chris B. Young and Seth Smith.

Oakland Athletics OF Chris B. Young (quadriceps) will play for Triple-A Sacramento Thursday, May 16, and is likely to come off the disabled list Friday, May 17. The team will decide to send C Luke Montz down or designate 1B Daric Barton for assignment to make room for Young on the roster.
Fantasy Tip: Michael Taylor was sent down to the minors today, so Young figures to platoon in the outfield with Seth Smith, as he was doing before. Young has power, but he won't do you any favors in the batting average category. This makes him an asset in cavernous mixed formats with deep outfield setups.

Oakland Athletics OFs Coco Crisp (hamstring) and Chris B. Young (quadriceps) are close to a return, but Young felt something in his quadriceps during a rehab game Monday, May 13. Crisp had a great day of running, and he could return before Young Wednesday, May 15. Young will play in another game Tuesday, May 14, and he could be rested through the end of the week.
Fantasy Tip: Michael Taylor's playing time will come to an end when Crisp and Young return. If Crisp is out there on your waiver wire, add him to your team now. Young figures to platoon in right field when he's back with Seth Smith. Both Young and Smith are worth roster spots in cavernous mixed formats.
