Rockies | Carlos Gonzalez could play first base

Fri, 29 Jan 2016 17:38:49 -0800

Colorado Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez could see action at first base during spring training, although the team does not have plans to move him to the position on a full-time basis for now. "CarGo at first base is something we've talked about introducing a little bit this spring, but it's more of a potential longterm outlook," manager Walt Weiss said.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez hit .271 with 40 home runs and 97 RBIs in 153 regular-season games in 2015. He should be viewed as a high-end No. 2 outfielder in mixed fantasy formats as long as he's playing his home games in Denver. For the time being, Ben Paulsen and Mark Reynolds will split time at first base for the Rockies, with both players having little value outside of NL-only leagues.

Rockies | Gerardo Parra set for starting job

Thu, 28 Jan 2016 14:23:12 -0800

Colorado Rockies OF Gerardo Parra will be left with a starting spot to win in the outfield after the Rockies traded OF Corey Dickerson to the Tampa Bay Rays Thursday, Jan. 28. Parra can play left with OF Charlie Blackmon in center field and OF Carlos Gonzalez in right. OF Brandon Barnes will be the fourth outfielder and fill in everywhere.

Fantasy Tip: Parra had career highs in batting average (.291), home runs (14) and runs (83) last year with the Milwaukee Brewers and Baltimore Orioles. Coors Field was the best possible landing spot for him, and now he's in a starting role. He could improve on his solid 2015 season with the Rockies, and he should be a target in the later rounds of all mixed leagues.

Rockies | GM tells Carlos Gonzalez to ignore rumors

Fri, 15 Jan 2016 13:28:37 -0800

Colorado Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez was told by general manager Jeff Bridich that while there are a lot of rumors circulating, Gonzalez should ignore them unless Bridich was quoted directly.

Fantasy Tip: The Rockies outfield is crowded since the addition of Gerardo Parra, and Gonzalez has been the subject of trade rumors for prolonged period of time. Fantasy players will want to stay tuned over the coming weeks because a relocation away from Coors Field would be a blow and potentially a significant blow to his fantasy stats. Assuming Gonzalez sticks with Colorado, he is a high-end No. 2 outfielder for your team and worth targeting in the early middle rounds.

Rockies | Multiple teams interested in Carlos Gonzalez

Wed, 13 Jan 2016 17:08:03 -0800

The Baltimore Orioles, Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and St. Louis Cardinals are among the teams that have expressed interest in Colorado Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez this offseason, according to multiple sources. In addition, the San Francisco Giants and Washington Nationals contacted the Rockies about Gonzalez, although they are unlikely to pursue him now that they have signed outfielders in free agency.

Fantasy Tip: In 153 games last season, Gonzalez hit .271 with 40 home runs and 97 RBIs, although he benefitted greatly from playing his home games at Coors Field. Despite having nearly the same number of at-bats on the road (303 away vs. 305 at home), Gonzalez had eight fewer home runs, 25 fewer RBIs and a batting average that was 56 points lower away from Denver. That being said, he should still be one of the first outfielders drafted in all fantasy formats.

MLB | Gerardo Parra seeking three-year deal

Mon, 11 Jan 2016 11:10:38 -0800

Free-agent OF Gerardo Parra (Orioles) is speculated to be seeking a three-year deal in the neighborhood of $24 million, but Parra's agent, Jose Mijares, only is saying that his client wants a three-year contract. The Colorado Rockies are one of three teams pursuing Parra, and a deal could be agreed on soon. The Rockies would be more likely to trade OFs Carlos Gonzalez or Charlie Blackmon if they were to sign Parra.

Fantasy Tip: Parra faded after his trade to the Baltimore Orioles last year, but he can still be useful for stretches of time in all fantasy leagues. A rebound is entirely possible, and he would be that much more attractive as a late-round sleeper if he signed with the Rockies.

Rockies | Colorado had interest in Kevin Gausman

Fri, 18 Dec 2015 18:14:39 -0800

The Colorado Rockies had expressed interest in acquiring Baltimore Orioles SP Kevin Gausman as part of a potential trade package for OF Carlos Gonzalez but the O's were unwilling to part with the 24-year-old right-hander.

Fantasy Tip: Gausman went 4-7 with a 4.25 ERA in 25 games (17 starts) for Baltimore last season, with 29 walks and 103 strikeouts over 112 1/3 innings. He's worth drafting in the middle to later rounds of AL-only and deep mixed leagues because of his upside and high strikeout totals.

Royals | Kansas City eyeing Colorado outfielders?

Fri, 11 Dec 2015 14:37:27 -0800

Colorado Rockies OFs Carlos Gonzalez, Corey Dickerson and Charlie Blackmon could be of trade interest to the Kansas City Royals, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick.

Fantasy Tip: The Royals have holes in each of their corner outfield positions. One is expected to be filled by Jarred Dyson, but trading for one of the outfielders from Colorado could work, too. It all depends on how willing Kansas City is to open up their prospect wallet. Stay tuned for updates.

Rockies | Colorado outfielders are popular

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 12:13:38 -0800

Colorado Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez is primarily being discussed in trade talks, but OFs Charlie Blackmon and Corey Dickerson are also receiving calls from other teams.

Fantasy Tip: The free-agent market for outfielders is unfolding, and some teams would rather not pay the high prices for the likes of Yoenis Cespedes and Jason Heyward. All three Rockies outfielders are heavily coveted in all fantasy leagues, with Dickerson being the biggest risk because of injuries.

Orioles | O's checking on Carlos Gonzalez

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 11:09:05 -0800

The Baltimore Orioles are one of a few teams to check in on Colorado Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez.

Fantasy Tip: Baltimore is looking at multiple avenues to replace a lot of power if they end up letting Chris Davis go. Car-Go is an obvious health risk in the early rounds for fantasy owners, but when he's on, nobody can touch him. He'd continue to hit in an awesome hitter's park if he were dealt to Baltimore.

Rockies | Carlos Gonzalez popular in talks

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 08:43:23 -0800

Colorado Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez has been the subject of a flurry of trade discussions the past couple of days.

Fantasy Tip: Car-Go is owed $37 million over the next two years, and he's certainly an option to be traded. He had a huge .285-27-62 second half last season, and his home-road splits were pretty big. He had a .299-24-61 split at Coors Field and a .243-16-36 split on the road. Leaving Coors Field will hurt his value a bit, but he's still a low-end OF1 in any setting.
