|Dodgers | Joc Pederson placed on DL|
Fri, 01 Jul 2016 15:52:46 -0700
Los Angeles Dodgers OF Joc Pederson (shoulder) was placed on the disabled list with a right shoulder injury Friday, July 1. In a corresponding move, OF Will Venable was recalled from Class AAA Oklahoma City.
Fantasy Tip: Pederson's 34 runs, 13 home runs and 33 RBI are solid marks, but he still owns an underwhelming .236 batting average and despite plus-speed has just four stolen bases. He is worth stashing in deep mixed and NL-only setups. Venable is a desperation add in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues, as he is unlikely to see enough playing time to make a fantasy dent.

|Dodgers | Will Venable designated for assignment|
Fri, 24 Jun 2016 12:19:05 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Tepesch hasn't pitched in the majors since 2014, and he has a career 4.53 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 5.5 K/9 through 39 starts. There is minimal fantasy value here. Venable can be replaced in all seasonal formats.

|Dodgers | Will Venable making Dodgers debut|
Thu, 16 Jun 2016 16:01:17 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Venable topped 20 homers back in 2013, but that seems like ages ago. He still has double-digit stolen base potential, but he's unlikely to see enough playing time to be relevant outside of NL-only setups. Consider him a lottery ticket as a desperation pick in daily leagues tonight.

|Dodgers | Will Venable joins Dodgers|
Tue, 14 Jun 2016 15:15:12 -0700
Fantasy Tip: The Blue may have use for Venable as part of a platoon in left field between Howie Kendrick and Scott Van Slyke now that Carl Crawford is no longer with the club. Venable's best asset is his speed, but he likely won't see enough playing time to be considered outside of deep NL-only leagues.

|Phillies | Will Venable signs with Phils|
Mon, 28 Mar 2016 11:35:14 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Given the injury to Aaron Altherr, we'd expect Venable to make the major league roster and become a platoon option with Peter Bourjos. If that happens, Venable could become a steals option in NL-only formats. His ground balls are on the rise, though, so don't expect much of anything else.

|Indians | Indians ink Will Venable|
Fri, 26 Feb 2016 09:31:17 -0800
Fantasy Tip: While Venable has dropped off considerably the past two seasons with both the San Diego Padres and Texas Rangers, he does have potential to resurface in his new situation in Cleveland. The Indians don't exactly sport a ton of depth as it pertains to their outfield, and if Venable is able to secure a starting job, he could be a useful asset for steals. More likely, though, he'll settle in as more of a player for AL-only leagues.

|Indians | Will Venable in Cleveland|
Fri, 26 Feb 2016 05:43:29 -0800
Fantasy Tip: Venable is a part-time player that can steal some bags, but he's mostly an AL-only player.

|Rangers | Texas eyeing Alejandro De Aza|
Wed, 17 Feb 2016 10:56:28 -0800
The Texas Rangers are "keeping tabs" on New York Mets OF Alejandro De Aza in case OF Josh Hamilton's (knee) knee woes continue. Mets general manager Sandy Alderson has acknowledged that they could trade De Aza because they have an excess of outfielders. The Rangers are also considering free-agent OFs David Murphy (Angels) and Will Venable (Rangers).
Fantasy Tip: As things stand now as a fifth outfielder for the Mets, De Aza has very little fantasy value. However, if he's traded or the Mets suffer an injury that would open up significant playing time, he could be attractive in deep mixed and single-universe leagues late in drafts.

|Mets | New York prefers Denard Span|
Mon, 21 Dec 2015 11:02:17 -0800
The New York Mets prefer signing free-agent OF Denard Span (Nationals) over free-agent OFs Will Venable (Rangers), Alejandro De Aza (Giants) or Gerardo Parra (Orioles), but Span is coming off hip surgery and is looking for a multi-year deal. Parra's defense has slipped in recent years and might be looking for too rich of a contract. The Mets continue to look for a left-handed hitting center fielder who could platoon with OF Juan Lagares.
Fantasy Tip: Span was having a fine season for the Nationals last year before injury struck, as he hit .301 (74-for-275) with 11 stolen bases and 38 runs in 61 games. Span is mainly useful for his contact-oriented approach, on-base skills and runs, but part-time duty with New York would limit his fantasy upside and relegate him mainly to deep mixed and NL-only leagues.

|Mets | Center field a need for the Mets|
Thu, 10 Dec 2015 12:04:40 -0800
Free-agent OFs Gerardo Parra (Orioles), Denard Span (Nationals) and Will Venable (Rangers) are of interest to the New York Mets, according to sources, and general manager John Ricco said the organization will look at each one individuall Thursday, Dec. 10. New York is looking for a left-handed-hitting outfielder to platoon in center field with OF Juan Lagares.
Fantasy Tip: Lagares struggles against right-handed pitching, so adding an outfielder to platoon with him makes sense. However, platoons are rarely useful for fantasy purposes in the majority of formats. Parra, Span and Venable are all low-end options with full-time gigs, too. Stay tuned for updates, but it appears the Mets will be adding an outfielder.
