Braves | Gordon Beckham off the DL

Thu, 07 Jul 2016 12:29:01 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Gordon Beckham (hamstring) was activated from the 15-day disabled list Thursday, July 7. INF/OF Emilio Bonifacio was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Beckham has only played 31 games this year due to injuries, but he's shown well with a .284/.382/442 line, two home runs and 16 RBI. Jace Peterson has been hot of late, so it remains to be seen how much Beckham will play upon his return. He could mix in at third base with Adonis Garcia. In the end, though, Beckham probably doesn't have enough offensive upside to warrant an addition in mixed leagues.

Braves | Two Braves idle

Mon, 04 Jul 2016 10:23:03 -0700

Atlanta Braves SS Erick Aybar and 3B Adonis Garcia are out of the lineup Monday, July 4. 3B Brandon Snyder is hitting seventh, and OF Emilio Bonifacio is hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Bonifacio has wheels, but he's hitting just .148. Neither of the two have much luster against Jerad Eickhoff today.

Braves | Jace Peterson back in lineup Saturday

Sat, 02 Jul 2016 10:12:38 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Jace Peterson is back in the starting lineup against Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez Saturday, July 2, with INF/OF Chase d'Arnaud batting second and playing center field. In addition, C A.J. Pierzynski will hit seventh and start behind the plate, while OF Emilio Bonifacio hits eighth and plays left field. OFs Jeff Francoeur and Ender Inciarte and C Tyler Flowers are receiving the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson is batting .393 in 28 at-bats over the past week and is hitting .348 with a home run and six RBI in just 23 at-bats versus the Fish this season, so he's worth considering in DFS as a source of productive cap relief. D'artaud, Pierzynski and Bonifacio can be ignored in DFS this afternoon.

Braves | Emilio Bonifacio batting eighth

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 12:01:46 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Emilio Bonifacio is starting in left field and batting eighth against Cleveland Indians SP Corey Kluber Tuesday, June 28.

Fantasy Tip: Bonifacio has been a fantasy non-factor since his promotion back to the big leagues, but he owns plus-speed, which makes him an intriguing asset in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues. Against Kluber Tuesday, though, Bonifacio is a desperation fantasy option in all setups.

Braves | Atlanta resting two players

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 14:00:33 -0700

Atlanta Braves C A.J. Pierzynski and OF Emilio Bonifacio are not in the starting lineup against Cleveland Indians SP Trevor Bauer Monday, June 27. C Tyler Flowers will start in catcher and is batting sixth in the lineup, while OF Brandon Snyder will start in left field and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Flowers is hitting .211 with two home runs and three RBI this month but does have three hits in his last two games. Flowers will have value in two-catcher leagues, but owners in other leagues should find better options. Snyder has gone 4-for-15 since joining the Braves but is not a strong option.

Braves | Emilio Bonifacio starting in left field

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 12:15:17 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Emilio Bonifacio is starting in left field and batting eighth against New York Mets SP Matt Harvey Thursday, June 23. OF Jeff Francoeur is not in the starting lineup Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Bonafacio stole 23 bases through just 57 games with Class AAA Gwinnett, and his fleeting potential to swipe a few bags with Atlanta should have teams chasing the category interested in his services in cavernous mixed and NL-only setups. Although, he'll likely continue to split time with Francoeur, which limits the fantasy upside of both.

Braves | Jeff Francoeur not in Tuesday lineup

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 12:18:22 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Jeff Francoeur is not starting Tuesday, June 21, against the Miami Marlins. OF Emilio Bonifacio will start instead and bat eighth against Marlins SP Jose Fernandez.

Fantasy Tip: Bonifacio's contract was just purchased from Class AAA Gwinnett on Tuesday, so it may be too soon to tell how much fantasy value he will have. Since Bonifacio's playing time may be limited, he may make a decent daily pickup from time to time.

Braves | Mallex Smith placed on DL

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 12:06:26 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Mallex Smith (thumb) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured left thumb Tuesday, June 21. He is expected to miss eight to 10 weeks of action. OF Emilio Bonifacio was recalled from Classs AAA Gwinnett to replace Smith on the roster.

Fantasy Tip: Smith is a low-end stash in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues, as the nature of his injury could linger and limit his offense down the stretch, but he does have 14 stolen bases. Look for Jeff Francoeur to see an uptick in playing time in the short term, which improves his stock in similar deep leagues. Bonifacio could even see time at the top end of the platoon with his speed and ability to grab stolen bases.

Braves | Mallex Smith out over a month

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 17:41:44 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Mallex Smith (thumb) will "likely" miss at least six weeks with a broken left thumb that he sustained Sunday, June 19, against the New York Mets after being hit by a pitch. OF/INF Emilio Bonifacio is most likely to be called up to replace him on the roster.

Fantasy Tip: It's a tough break for the rookie, who was really coming into his own after a slow start this season. In fact, he led the Braves in stolen bases (14), batting average with runners in scoring position (.349) and average against right-handed pitching (.298). This should lead to more starts for veteran Jeff Francoeur.
