Braves | Emilio Bonifacio starting in left field

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 12:15:17 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Emilio Bonifacio is starting in left field and batting eighth against New York Mets SP Matt Harvey Thursday, June 23. OF Jeff Francoeur is not in the starting lineup Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Bonafacio stole 23 bases through just 57 games with Class AAA Gwinnett, and his fleeting potential to swipe a few bags with Atlanta should have teams chasing the category interested in his services in cavernous mixed and NL-only setups. Although, he'll likely continue to split time with Francoeur, which limits the fantasy upside of both.

Braves | Jeff Francoeur not in Tuesday lineup

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 12:18:22 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Jeff Francoeur is not starting Tuesday, June 21, against the Miami Marlins. OF Emilio Bonifacio will start instead and bat eighth against Marlins SP Jose Fernandez.

Fantasy Tip: Bonifacio's contract was just purchased from Class AAA Gwinnett on Tuesday, so it may be too soon to tell how much fantasy value he will have. Since Bonifacio's playing time may be limited, he may make a decent daily pickup from time to time.

Braves | Mallex Smith placed on DL

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 12:06:26 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Mallex Smith (thumb) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured left thumb Tuesday, June 21. He is expected to miss eight to 10 weeks of action. OF Emilio Bonifacio was recalled from Classs AAA Gwinnett to replace Smith on the roster.

Fantasy Tip: Smith is a low-end stash in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues, as the nature of his injury could linger and limit his offense down the stretch, but he does have 14 stolen bases. Look for Jeff Francoeur to see an uptick in playing time in the short term, which improves his stock in similar deep leagues. Bonifacio could even see time at the top end of the platoon with his speed and ability to grab stolen bases.

Braves | Mallex Smith out over a month

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 17:41:44 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Mallex Smith (thumb) will "likely" miss at least six weeks with a broken left thumb that he sustained Sunday, June 19, against the New York Mets after being hit by a pitch. OF/INF Emilio Bonifacio is most likely to be called up to replace him on the roster.

Fantasy Tip: It's a tough break for the rookie, who was really coming into his own after a slow start this season. In fact, he led the Braves in stolen bases (14), batting average with runners in scoring position (.349) and average against right-handed pitching (.298). This should lead to more starts for veteran Jeff Francoeur.

Braves | Four ATL veterans battling for two spots

Sun, 27 Mar 2016 09:29:56 -0700

Atlanta Braves OFs Emilio Bonifacio, Michael Bourn, Jeff Francoeur and Nick Swisher appear to be battling for two reserve outfield spots on the opening day roster.

Fantasy Tip: Bonifacio, Bourn and Swisher are prime candidates to be traded or released, with Atlanta likely to be on the hook for the bulk of their salaries if they are moved. Francoeur has played well this spring but could be optioned to Class AAA Gwinnett if he agrees to remain with the organization. None of these players are likely to receive enough playing time to make them worth drafting in any fantasy format.

Braves | Ender Inciarte expected to hit leadoff

Tue, 01 Mar 2016 16:59:31 -0800

Atlanta Braves OF Ender Inciarte has been targeted to hit leadoff ever since the Braves acquired him from the Arizona Diamondbacks in the offseason. However, he hit only .227/.253/.277 against left-handers last year, so he could be involved in a platoon in center field. OF Emilio Bonifacio could spell Inciarte in center and leadoff, but Atlanta doesn't have many other options.

Fantasy Tip: Inciarte must improve against lefties in order to maximize his speed and relevance in mixed fantasy leagues. With full-time duty the talented outfielder could approach 30 stolen bases, and that will be attractive in the middle rounds of drafts.

The Chicago White Sox requested waivers on 2B Emilio Bonifacio Tuesday, Aug. 18, for the purpose of giving him his unconditional release.

White Sox | Emilio Bonifacio designated

Sun, 16 Aug 2015 13:19:08 -0700

Chicago White Sox 2B Emilio Bonifacio was designated for assignment Sunday, Aug. 16.

Fantasy Tip: This should come as little surprise to fans of Bonifacio ($2,400, 4.8% of cap), who has struggled mightily this season. He has fantasy value because of an ability to play multiple positions, but the batting average has prevented Bonifacio from showing off that versatility. The emergence of Trayce Thompson's bat has also played a huge factor.

White Sox | Emilio Bonifacio starts rehab assignment

Tue, 11 Aug 2015 19:24:46 -0700

Chicago White Sox OF Emilio Bonifacio (oblique) started a minor-league rehab assignment Tuesday, Aug. 11, with Class AAA Charlotte. He has been on the 15-day disabled list since July 29 due to a strained left oblique.

Fantasy Tip: Wait to see Bonifacio officially return and play a game or two to knock off the rust before trusting him again in FantasyScore. Trayce Thompson ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) has had additional at-bats with Bonifacio and J.B. Shuck banged up.
