Giants | Gregor Blanco to come off the bench

Fri, 08 Jan 2016 17:26:26 -0800

San Francisco Giants OF Gregor Blanco is expected to serve as the club's fourth outfielder in 2016.

Fantasy Tip: OFs Angel Pagan, Denard Span and Hunter Pence will comprise San Francisco's starting outfield, meaning Blanco will begin the year in a reserve role. However, all three players missed considerable playing time in 2015, so he could receive enough at-bats to be worthy of selecting as a bench player for NL-only fantasy leagues.

Giants | Brandon Belt hasn't been cleared

Thu, 05 Nov 2015 08:57:58 -0800

San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt (concussion) has yet to be cleared following his concussion and is expected to be examined by a specialist in the coming days. Belt is expected to be fully healthy for spring training. OF Gregor Blanco (concussion) has been cleared after his late-season concussion.

Fantasy Tip: Injuries derailed what was a career year for Belt in 2015. He hit 18 home runs, drove in 68 runs and hit .280 in 137 games for the Giants. Heading into 2016, assuming he's fully healthy, he should be able to build on those numbers for fantasy owners and should once again come at a modest price for first basemen.

Giants | Hunter Pence, others shut down

Thu, 24 Sep 2015 16:42:03 -0700

San Francisco Giants OFs Hunter Pence (oblique), Nori Aoki (concussion) and Gregor Blanco (concussion) and 1B Brandon Belt (concussion) have all been shut down for the rest of the season.

Fantasy Tip: With the Giants' postseason chances virtually gone, they'll play it safe and rest their injured stars. You can now safely drop all of them in redraft leagues if you haven't already.

Giants | Three SF players out indefinitely

Tue, 22 Sep 2015 10:07:41 -0700

San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt (concussion) and OFs Nori Aoki (concussion) and Gregor Blanco (concussion) are all out indefinitely with concussion symptoms and none of them will play this week against the San Diego Padres.

Fantasy Tip: Avoid all three players on FantasyScore this week and don't hold out hope that any of them can help you for the remainder of the year in traditional fantasy formats. With the Giants out of contention there's a good chance they rest them from here on out.

Giants | SF outfielders could be shut down

Fri, 11 Sep 2015 17:51:40 -0700

San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy said OFs Nori Aoki (concussion), Gregor Blanco (concussion) and Hunter Pence (oblique) could be shut down for the remainder of the season.

Fantasy Tip: This is contrary to what Bochy said about several of his ailing players two days ago. Of the three outfielders mentioned, Pence ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) appears to have the greatest chance of returning to action this season but it's likely that none of them will have a FantasyScore impact again until 2016.

Giants | Gregor Blanco diagnosed with concussion

Fri, 11 Sep 2015 14:33:02 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Gregor Blanco (concussion) was diagnosed with a concussion and is likely to be placed on the 7-day concussion disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: The outfield was already an injury-riddled mess for San Francisco, so it is somewhat tough to project exactly how playing time will play out while Blanco ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is on the shelf. Brandon Belt ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) could see some time in left field, and Alejandro De Aza ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) should also see a jump in playing time. De Aza is worth a speculative grab in deep mixed leagues.

Giants | Marlon Byrd back in lineup Sunday

Sun, 06 Sep 2015 12:35:31 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Marlon Byrd will bat fifth and play right field against Colorado Rockies SP Yohan Flande Sunday, Sept. 6. OF Gregor Blanco, who played right field Saturday, Sept. 5, will play center field and bat leadoff Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Byrd ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) is just 1-for-17 at the plate during the month of September and should be avoided in FantasyScore until he shows signs of turning things around.

Giants | LF to be revolving door for SF

Fri, 04 Sep 2015 16:00:29 -0700

San Francisco Giants OFs Nori Aoki, Gregor Blanco, Juan Perez and Alejandro De Aza will rotate in left field based on matchups, according to manager Bruce Bochy.

Fantasy Tip: This configuration will likely hold up until Hunter Pence returns from his injury. Blanco ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has the most fantasy value, as he'll likely be in there most of the time against righties, and he has the best bat of the bunch. In the right matchups, Blanco is hard to ignore at that salary. The others will be hit or miss down the stretch.

Giants | Juan Perez starting in left field

Fri, 04 Sep 2015 14:55:23 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Juan Perez is starting in left field and batting eighth against Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa Friday, Sept. 4. OF Gregor Blanco is not in the starting lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Perez ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) would typically be a fantasy afterthought, but with the game being played at Coors Field, he shouldn't be completely ignored. If you're looking to open up some cap space to spend up elsewhere, Perez checks out as a viable source of savings.

Giants | Gregor Blanco sitting vs. lefty

Thu, 03 Sep 2015 15:36:18 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Gregor Blanco is not in the lineup against Colorado Rockies left-handed SP Chris Rusin Thursday, Sept. 3. OF Juan Perez is starting in left field and batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Perez ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) has a juicy matchup if you're looking to catch lightning in a bottle tonight on FantasyScore. The reserve outfielder is hitting .368 but with just seven hits in 19 at-bats this season.
