Astros | Carlos Gomez makes rehab debut

Tue, 24 May 2016 22:05:37 -0700

Houston Astros OF Carlos Gomez (rib cage) went 0-for-3 with a run scored, two strikeouts and he was also hit by a pitch Tuesday, May 24, in his first rehab appearance for Class AA Corpus Christi.

Fantasy Tip: With a dreadful .182/.238/.248 line in 34 games, Gomez has a lot of work to do to make up for his horrendous start when he's ready to return from the disabled list. In the meantime, while he's out, Jake Marisnick will benefit the most, but he's limited at the plate.

Astros | Carlos Gomez starting rehab Tuesday

Sun, 22 May 2016 16:42:27 -0700

Houston Astros OF Carlos Gomez (rib cage) is expected to start a rehabilitation assignment for Class AA Corpus Christi Tuesday, May 24.

Fantasy Tip: Gomez has been awful this season, and if you have a roster spot to spare, he could be worth stashing if a frustrated owner has dumped him.

Astros | Carlos Gomez could return shortly

Thu, 19 May 2016 17:12:42 -0700

Houston Astros OF Carlos Gomez (rib cage) could return to baseball activities as early as next week, according to manager A.J. Hinch. Gomez is eligible to return from the disabled list May 31. Gomez has been a disappointment and is hitting just .182 with no home runs and four RBI on the year to go along with 46 strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Gomez was likely dropped in most shallow leagues and some mixed leagues. If you have the room to stash, why not take a chance and hope he can figure some things out while on a rehab assignment. It seems he's been injured ever since he arrived in Houston last summer, and he's making very weak contact, which is concerning. Jake Marisnick sees a short-term boost in value in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues, but he's really only useful for some stolen bases.

Astros | Jake Marisnick to play center

Tue, 17 May 2016 11:08:48 -0700

Houston Astros OF Jake Marisnick is likely to see most of the starts in center field with OF Carlos Gomez (rib cage) on the disabled list. However, Gomez isn't expected to be out for longer than 15 games.

Fantasy Tip: Marisnick's one skill that'll appeal to fantasy owners is his speed. He had 24 swipes but was caught nine times in 2015. In the short term, he can be useful in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues if you're in need in the steals category. Gomez is a drop candidate in shallow leagues if you don't have the room.

Astros | Carlos Gomez placed on DL

Tue, 17 May 2016 10:34:21 -0700

Houston Astros OF Carlos Gomez (rib cage) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a bruised left rib cage Tuesday, May 17.

Fantasy Tip: Gomez has officially hit rock bottom, but perhaps this is good news for him, as it could give him some time to clear his head and figure out what's wrong with his swing. Cutting him in shallow formats is probably the right move. You're paying pennies on the dollar if you buy low now, but there's no guarantee he'll come back and turn things around. Tread carefully. Jake Marisnick, mainly valuable for his speed, is the biggest beneficiary in the outfield with Gomez out. Pick him up in deep mixed and AL-only affairs for steals.

Astros | Patience running out for Carlos Gomez?

Mon, 16 May 2016 13:21:02 -0700

Houston Astros OF Carlos Gomez's playing time could suffer if he does not begin hitting better, according to general manager Jeff Luhnow. "I think he's going to have to turn it around at some point, otherwise we're not going to be able to continue to play him," Luhnow said Monday, May 16.

Fantasy Tip: Gomez owns a .182/.238/.248 slash line with just six runs, five RBI and five stolen bases, and he has yet to hit a home run. Gomez's fantasy value is at an all-time low, and it isn't out of the question to cut ties in shallow formats. However, there is plenty of room for improvement, and Gomez does have three stolen bases in the past week.

Astros | Carlos Gomez not in the lineup

Sat, 14 May 2016 08:36:50 -0700

Houston Astros OF Carlos Gomez is not in the starting lineup against Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz Saturday, May 14. OF Jake Marisnick will start in center field and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Marisnick has only one hit in his last 13 at-bats and is hitting .080 this season, so owners should be able to find better players to use in their lineups.

Astros | Preston Tucker, Carlos Gomez out

Sun, 08 May 2016 10:42:57 -0700

Houston Astros OF Preston Tucker and OF Carlos Gomez are not in the starting lineup against Seattle Mariners SP Hisashi Iwakuma Sunday, May 8. SS Marwin Gonzalez will start at first base and is batting fifth, while OF Jake Marisnick will start in center field and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez has five hits and two RBI over his last three games and could be a sleeper option in daily fantasy leagues. Marisnick is batting only .083 and should be avoided.

Astros | Carlos Gomez still not 100%

Tue, 03 May 2016 16:37:19 -0700

Houston Astros OF Carlos Gomez (rib cage) said he's not yet 100%, "but good enough to perform tonight. I'll get back to the lineup and do my thing."

Fantasy Tip: Gomez has been out to a slow start, hitting just .213/.241/.275 with zero home runs and only two RBI in his first 80 at-bats. Even with him back in the lineup, owners may want to give him a couple of games to get in a rhythm. His return is also bad news for Preston Tucker.

Astros | Carlos Gomez returns from injury

Tue, 03 May 2016 15:10:00 -0700

Houston Astros OF Carlos Gomez (rib cage) is back in the starting lineup and is hitting seventh against Minnesota Twins SP Alex Meyer Tuesday, May 3.

Fantasy Tip: Gomez has to be one of the biggest early-season disappointments for fantasy owners with a slash line of .213/.241/.275 and no home runs, two RBI and two stolen bases in 22 games. Perhaps nagging injuries have been the culprit. Whatever the case, you can probably buy him for pennies on the dollar. Keep him out of traditional lineups until he proves his health and shows signs of life.
