Astros | Carlos Gomez can't extend streak

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 23:07:50 -0700

Houston Astros OF Carlos Gomez was hitless in two at-bats with a walk and strikeout Tuesday, June 21, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim as his six-game hitting streak was snapped.

Fantasy Tip: A six-game hitting streak doesn't sound like much, but it was actually a season high for Gomez. He has struggled, but remains a decent play in AL-only fantasy leagues and DFS play for his power potential.

Astros | Carlos Gomez turning it around

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 23:04:46 -0700

Houston Astros OF Carlos Gomez went 3-for-4 with a run scored and RBI Monday, June 20, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim to raise his average to .222.

Fantasy Tip: Gomez has hit safely in a season-high six games, raising his average from .181 to .222 just since June 12. He has re-emerged as a must-start in AL-only fantasy leagues and some deeper mixed formats.

Astros | Carlos Gomez extends hit streak

Sun, 19 Jun 2016 15:13:43 -0700

Houston Astros OF Carlos Gomez extended his hitting streak to a career-best five games on Sunday, June 19.

Fantasy Tip: Gomez struggled mightily to start the season, but he might be showing signs of life. He may be worth starting in DFS leagues as long as this streak continues, but Gomez still is a yellow flag for owners in most daily and regular leagues.

Astros | Three more hits for Carlos Gomez

Fri, 17 Jun 2016 22:05:44 -0700

Houston Astros OF Carlos Gomez went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a steal in a 4-2 loss to the Cincinnati Reds Friday, June 17, and he has three straight multi-hit games.

Fantasy Tip: Gomez is on the short list of biggest fantasy busts this year, but he is showing signs of life and worth scooping up if a frustrated owner cut him loose.

Astros | Carlos Gomez confident in rebound

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 16:05:47 -0700

Houston Astros OF Carlos Gomez went 2-for-4 with three runs scored Tuesday, June 14, and he's confident his early season struggles are behind him. He's batting .211 with three home runs and four RBI since returning from the disabled list May 31. "The last couple of weeks, I feel really good at the plate, with more confidence, and I'm swinging at pitches I'm looking for," Gomez said. "I don't have a lot of results, but I'm swinging at the pitch I'm looking for and I'm taking more walks and just taking it day by day. He wore prescription glasses during the game Tuesday, but it was simply because he had run out of contact lenses.

Fantasy Tip: Gomez's overall stat line on the season is hard to look at (.189-3-9), but he's shown signs of life at the plate and on the base paths recently and all three of his homers have come in June. The power-speed combination is still there, and Gomez has time to turn his season around. He should remain owned in the majority of seasonal leagues even if he remains on most benches.

Houston Astros OF Carlos Gomez is back in the starting lineup against Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer Saturday, June 11, batting seventh and playing center field. OF Jake Marisnick is receiving the day off.

Astros | Carlos Gomez takes a seat

Fri, 10 Jun 2016 13:25:41 -0700

Houston Astros OF Carlos Gomez is not in the starting lineup Friday, June 10. OF Jake Marisnick is starting in center field and is batting ninth against Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Andriese.

Fantasy Tip: Gomez has been an epic disaster this year with a .182/.253/.284 slash line and only two home runs, but he's shown signs of life this month, going 4-for-24 (.167) with both of his home runs and a stolen base. He should still be owned in deep mixed and AL-only leagues in hopes that he can eventually turn things around. Marisnick is really only useful for his speed, but hitting at the bottom of the order really makes him unattractive in DFS.

Houston Astros OF Carlos Gomez hit his first home run of the season Sunday, June 5.

Astros | Tyler White, Carlos Gomez starting

Sun, 05 Jun 2016 09:41:31 -0700

Houston Astros 1B Tyler White and OF Carlos Gomez are back in the starting lineup against Oakland Athletics SP Sonny Gray Sunday, June 5. In addition, C Evan Gattis will bat fifth and start behind the plate, while OF Tony Kemp will bat ninth and play left field. C Jason Castro, 1B Marwin Gonzalez and OF Jake Marisnick are receiving the day off.

Fantasy Tip: White and Gomez have both struggled at the plate recently and should be avoided in all fantasy formats. White is 9-for-51 (.176) with two home runs, four RBI and 15 strikeouts over the past four weeks, while Gomez is just 4-for-35 with 19 strikeouts over the same stretch.
