Cowboys | Darren McFadden could be traded

Tue, 31 May 2016 16:35:54 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Darren McFadden may end up as trade bait before the regular season, in the opinion of ESPNDallas.com's Todd Archer.

Fantasy Tip: Trading McFadden would make sense for Dallas, who would still have Ezekiel Elliott and Alfred Morris to carry the load in the backfield. McFadden's fantasy value took a huge hit when Elliott was drafted; he should no longer be viewed as more than a low-end RB4 to high-end RB5, with extra value in PPR leagues.

Cowboys | Alfred Morris not available

Thu, 26 May 2016 19:09:27 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Alfred Morris and RB Darren McFadden are not available for trade, executive vice president Stephen Jones said Thursday, May 26.

Fantasy Tip: After selecting Ezekiel Elliott with the No. 4 pick in the NFL draft, the fantasy value of both McFadden and Morris takes a major hit. McFadden is worth grabbing later in drafts, but it would take an injury to Elliott for McFadden to become a starting-caliber back.

Cowboys | Ezekiel Elliott must earn starting job

Thu, 26 May 2016 10:20:54 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott must compete to earn a starting role this year, according to running backs coach Gary Brown. Elliott was drafted fourth overall by the Cowboys and will compete with RBs Darren McFadden and Alfred Morris. "It's a lot faster pace," Elliott said. "The game moves so much faster. Yesterday, I'm not going to lie, I was a little bit shell-shocked. But today I came out. I was a little bit more prepared and was more ready mentally so it was a little bit easier for me."

Fantasy Tip: This is probably just coach speak. Dallas wouldn't have used a top-five pick on a running back if they weren't prepared to start him immediately. Elliott was the top back in the draft by a long shot, and he should contribute nicely for fantasy owners immediately behind an elite offensive line. Take Elliott as an RB2 with upside for more in 2016.

Cowboys | Ezekiel Elliott working with second team

Wed, 25 May 2016 22:59:33 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott has been working with the second-team offense during organized team activities this week. RB Darren McFadden has been working with the starting offense.

Fantasy Tip: It is not known if Elliott will be the starter in Week 1, but he likely will become the starter at some point during his rookie season. Elliott should be considered a No. 2 running back in most leagues because should see plenty of touches each week. McFadden should be considered a No. 3 running back since he likely will see his carries drop as the season goes on.

Cowboys | Darren McFadden still starter in Dallas

Tue, 22 Mar 2016 14:35:20 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Darren McFadden is still viewed as the starting running back, according to owner Jerry Jones, although Jones said newly acquired RB Alfred Morris will still have a substantive role.

Fantasy Tip: This is one of those running back committees that don't necessarily prompt you to cheer or show any positive emotion. Morris will likely be used mostly on short-yardage and goal-line carries, while McFadden should be used more in the passing game. McFadden has added value in PPR leagues and could still finish as an RB2 in PPR formats. Morris is in RB3 to RB4 territory.

Cowboys | Darren McFadden to carry load early?

Sun, 20 Mar 2016 20:47:53 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Darren McFadden will likely open 2016 as the starting running back and see a majority of the work on all downs, according to beat writer David Moore, but Moore added that he believes the team will also draft a back and transition them into a larger role as the year goes on.

Fantasy Tip: McFadden enjoyed a solid 2015 season once he became the lead back, and despite the injury risk, he should be viewed as a RB2 heading into next season.

Cowboys | Dallas likely to add RB in draft

Sun, 28 Feb 2016 13:20:01 -0800

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is confident the team will add a running back this offseason to work in tandem with RB Darren McFadden.

Fantasy Tip: Some are suggesting the Cowboys could even target Ohio State's Ezekiel Elliott as high as No. 4 overall, but a more likely scenario has them addressing their defense and/or quarterback-in-waiting over the first two days of the draft. Either way, McFadden is highly unlikely to repeat the voluminous workload he did after supplanting Joseph Randle last season and may be no better than a flex option going forward.

Cowboys | Darren McFadden has bounce-back year

Tue, 05 Jan 2016 13:01:36 -0800

Dallas Cowboys RB Darren McFadden had his best season since 2010, totaling 1,089 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns.

Fantasy Tip: McFadden has put together back-to-back healthy seasons, playing in all 16 games the last two years. He took advantage of his opportunity after Joseph Randle derailed. Whether or not McFadden is the boy crying wolf remains to be seen, but he should be considered a RB2 going into next season's fantasy drafts.

Cowboys | Darren McFadden reaches 1,000 yards

Sun, 03 Jan 2016 17:49:57 -0800

Dallas Cowboys RB Darren McFadden had 12 carries for 92 yards and five catches for 53 yards in a 34-23 loss to the Washington Redskins in Week 17, reaching 1,000 yards rushing for the second time in his career.

Fantasy Tip: McFadden performed well when he was finally made the starter, and if he enters next year in the same role, he should be a solid RB2 in all formats.

Cowboys | Darren McFadden plays well in Week 16

Sun, 27 Dec 2015 14:49:20 -0800

Dallas Cowboys RB Darren McFadden rushed for 99 yards on 19 carries against the Buffalo Bills in Week 16.

Fantasy Tip: McFadden has been a solid addition for the Cowboys this season and should be a focal point on offense in Week 17. He has rushed for at least 99 yards in four of his last six games and could be a solid starting option against the Redskins.
