Oakland Raiders RB Darren McFadden has performed well during training camp and shown some explosiveness during his runs, according to head coach Dennis Allen. "I think Darren is probably running the ball as well as I've seen him run it since I've been here. I think he's probably more explosive than I've seen him since I've been here. I think part of that is that he's remained healthy throughout the offseason, throughout training camp. There haven't been any kind of nicks or nagging little deals that have slowed him down. So, hopefully that trend will continue because I've seen a lot of positives in what he's done in the running game," Allen said.
Fantasy Tip: McFadden is competing with Maurice Jones-Drew for the starting running back job but both should receive carries this season. Owners should consider McFadden as a weekly flex option, because he will not be the main option in the running game for the Raiders.
Fri, 08 Aug 2014 21:17:34 -0700
Oakland Raiders RB Maurice Jones-Drew started the preseason opener against the Minnesota Vikings Friday, Aug. 8, and he carried twice for 10 yards while also hauling in two passes for 14 yards. RB Darren McFadden had just one tote for 23 yards and he did not have any receptions.
Fantasy Tip: Pocket Hercules was listed as the starter on the team's initial depth chart of the preseason, but the battle will continue on as training camp and the preseason goes on. Right now, Jones-Drew is the more attractive fantasy selection on draft day, and Run DMC is too injury-prone anyway.
Tue, 05 Aug 2014 14:17:16 -0700
Oakland Raiders RB Maurice Jones-Drew is motivated by the competition he has with fellow RB Darren McFadden. Jones-Drew said he has to continue to push himself and strive for greatness in order to stay ahead of McFadden.
Fantasy Tip: Jones-Drew is listed ahead of McFadden on the team's depth chart, but there will likely still be a backfield committee of sorts in Oakland. If either one gets injured for an extended period of time, the other attains low-end RB2 potential.
Mon, 04 Aug 2014 20:54:38 -0700
Oakland Raiders RB Maurice Jones-Drew was listed ahead of Darren McFadden on the depth chart Monday, Aug. 4.
Fantasy Tip: Neither back is going to shoulder the load alone unless the other is injured, but for now, Jones-Drew seems to have the edge on McFadden. Both backs are worth drafting with Jones-Drew making a decent RB3 option if he remains the top back.
Mon, 14 Jul 2014 20:05:33 -0700
Oakland Raiders RB Darren McFadden and RB Maurice Jones-Drew could struggle while splitting carries this season, according to ESPN.com's Paul Gutierrez. Gutierrez noted that both backs have traditionally performed better later in games, and splitting carries could prevent both backs from finding a rhythm.
Fantasy Tip: It will be interesting to see how the carries will ultimately be divided between McFadden and Jones-Drew, and it could end up being the unfortunate situation where the lead-back role changes hands on a weekly basis. Both players are backup options at the RB spot for fantasy purposes.
Tue, 08 Jul 2014 07:56:12 -0700
Oakland Raiders OT Donald Penn said the team plans to run the ball often in 2014. "We're gonna run the ball, run the ball, then run it again, until the defense stops us," Penn said.
Fantasy Tip: Darren McFadden and Maurice Jones-Drew should have ample opportunities to run the ball. However, they're going to need an effective passing game to keep eight defenders out of the box limiting their daylight. The winner of the lion's share of carries should be an RB3 with the second back and Latavius Murray as flex options.
Mon, 09 Jun 2014 12:47:16 -0700
Oakland Raiders RB Darren McFadden worked as a kick returner during organized team activities Monday, June 9. Head coach Dennis Allen would not rule out the possibility of McFadden being used as returner this upcoming season.
Mon, 02 Jun 2014 11:53:09 -0700
Oakland Raiders RBs Darren McFadden and Maurice Jones-Drew are expected to compete for the starting running back job during training camp. The loser of the competition is still expected to receive plenty of carries during the season, because the team wants to keep both players healthy and fresh.
Fantasy Tip: Both players have dealt with injuries in the past, but they should be healthy for training camp. The winner of the competition probably should be considered a No. 3 fantasy running back in most leagues. The loser of the competition likely will still see a good amount of carries in 2014 and could be a handcuff or a later-round running back for owners.

Fri, 28 Mar 2014 05:36:15 -0700
The Oakland Raiders agreed with free-agent RB Maurice Jones-Drew (Jaguars) on a three-year deal. He's set to take a physical Friday, March 28, and sign the deal later in the day.
Fantasy Tip: Jones-Drew will have to split carries with Darren McFadden, which could keep them both healthy. They also could cancel each other out in fantasy. Jones-Drew has the consistency, but McFadden could have the burst. Monitor this timeshare in camp, but we see both as weak RB3s right now.

The Oakland Raiders have re-signed free-agent RB Darren McFadden to a one-year deal worth $4 million.
Fantasy Tip: McFadden could be the starting running back next season depending on what the team does this offseason. McFadden has been an injury risk since he entered the league but could be a No. 2 or No. 3 running back in fantasy leagues next season.

"You guys know how I feel about Darren McFadden; he's still one of my favorite players," Jackson said. "What a tremendous talent. But I really like my little guy [RB Giovani Bernard]. He had a real good season. But I don't think you can ever have too many good backs."
Fri, 20 Dec 2013 14:12:04 -0800
Oakland Raiders RB Darren McFadden (knee, ankle) practiced in full Friday, Dec. 20, and is probable for Week 16.
Fantasy Tip: In what may surprise many, McFadden will play against the San Diego Chargers. However, he'll be limited to a backup role to Rashad Jennings. Jennings' owners probably won't be happy. He's still playable, but more so as a flex than in a starting RB spot. McFadden is a risky play, regardless.

Wed, 18 Dec 2013 16:04:48 -0800

Fantasy Tip: There's a chance that DMC returns against the San Diego Chargers, but don't hold your breath. More importantly, don't put all your chips on McFadden in your championship game. Rashad Jennings has earned more carries even if McFadden returns to the lineup.

Wed, 11 Dec 2013 11:53:28 -0800
Oakland Raiders RB Darren McFadden (ankle) is not participating in practice Wednesday, Dec. 11.
Fantasy Tip: Bottom line: You can't trust DMC in your starting lineup for the fantasy semis, even if he suits up. Rashad Jennings could return this weekend, too. If he doesn't Marcel Reece may be a desperation play against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Sun, 08 Dec 2013 08:41:09 -0800

Oakland Raiders RB Darren McFadden (ankle) missed practice with an ankle injury Wednesday, Dec. 4, after he missed three games this season with a strained right hamstring. "He actually injured the ankle in the game the other day and it was (hurt) more than what we had initially thought," head coach Dennis Allen said. "He wasn't able to go today and hopefully we'll be able to get him out there soon, but I don't know." It's likely that McFadden sits out against the New York Jets in Week 14.
Fantasy Tip: Make plans to be without McFadden, who had only five carries in the team's Week 13 loss. Rashad Jennings (concussion), assuming he is cleared to play, is a solid RB2 against the New York Jets.

Wed, 27 Nov 2013 13:37:44 -0800
Oakland Raiders RB Darren McFadden (hamstring) will play in Week 13 against the Dallas Cowboys Thursday, Nov. 28, for the first time since straining his right hamstring Nov. 3. Offensive coordinator Greg Olson said earlier this week that they would ride the "hot hand" of RB Rashad Jennings. "The guy that's in there and being the most effective will be the guy that gets the opportunity," head coach Dennis Allen said. "But I see them both getting a chance to carry the ball. We'll see how it goes. We'll play (it) out as the game plays along."
Fantasy Tip: Jennings could easily see more of a workload in this one and should be seen as an RB 2 or flex. McFadden is more of a flex option as they look to ease him back into the mix.
Wed, 27 Nov 2013 11:23:16 -0800
Oakland Raiders RB Darren McFadden (hamstring) is listed as questionable for the Week 13 game against the Dallas Cowboys Thursday, Nov. 28. McFadden practiced in full Wednesday, Nov. 27.
Fantasy Tip: Even if McFadden can play, Rashad Jennings has done such a good job in his absence, it is hard to imagine head coach Dennis Allen upsetting the apple cart and making a change. McFadden might very well see carries, but expect a 50-50 split at best for McFadden. He is only worth a look as a low-end RB2 or flex play if active.
Tue, 26 Nov 2013 16:42:12 -0800
Oakland Raiders RB Darren McFadden (hamstring) was limited in practice Tuesday, Nov. 26.
Fantasy Tip: McFadden has been limited the last two days and will probably be questionable for Thursday's game against the Dallas Cowboys. If he's playing, he should probably be in your lineup with the nice matchup. If not, Rashad Jennings is also a solid play.

Mon, 25 Nov 2013 14:24:23 -0800
Oakland Raiders RB Darren McFadden (hamstring) did some running Monday, Nov. 25. Head coach Dennis Allen said the team will see how McFadden feels before deciding on his status for Week 13.
Fantasy Tip: McFadden likely will regain his starting job if he is able to play. If he is able to play, he should be a low-end No. 2 or flex option that comes with some risk because he could be limited. Rashad Jennings would be a solid No. 2 running back if McFadden misses another game.

Oakland Raiders RB Darren McFadden (hamstring) has been ruled out for the team's Week 12 game.
Fantasy Tip: Rashad Jennings likely will receive a majority of the carries for another week and should be a solid starting option in all leagues. Jennings could also be more involved in the passing game.
