Pirates | Mark Melancon to remain closer

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 07:37:22 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates RP Mark Melancon will remain the team's closer, with RPs Joakim Soria and Tony Watson serving as setup men.

Fantasy Tip: Melancon owners have nothing to fear as long as he continues to be successful in the closer role. He's earned plenty of rope this season, so it'd likely take a lot for the Pirates to bump him out of the role. Soria's fantasy value obviously takes a big hit. There's not much reason to hold onto him if he's not closing games.

Pirates | Mark Melancon to remain closer?

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 15:51:26 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates closer Mark Melancon is expected to remain the closer, following the acquisition of RP Joakim Soria from the Detroit Tigers Thursday, July 30. Soria and RP Tony Watson will serve as a setup duo.

Fantasy Tip: Melancon owns a measly 1.32 ERA, but he also a miniscule strikeout rate of just 6.23. Still, Melancon has racked up 32 saves for the season, and he'll likely continue to receive the majority of save opportunities. Soria owners should move on once an official decision is made by the Pirates.

Tigers | Joakim Soria on his way to Bucs

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 15:33:53 -0700

The Detroit Tigers have traded RP Joakim Soria to the Pittsburgh Pirates Thursday, July 30, pending physicals, per sources.

Fantasy Tip: RPs Bruce Rondon and Al Alburquerque are the players listed immediately below Soria on the Tigers' depth chart, while Neftali Feliz may also receive a shot. Rondon has the most upside, but Alburqueque and Feliz are the ones with previous closing experience. The Tigers haven't said who will take over the closer's job and a committee approach may be most likely.

Pirates | Pittsburgh after Joakim Soria?

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 14:40:14 -0700

Detroit Tigers RP Joakim Soria is of trade interest to the Pittsburgh Pirates, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Soria would lose the majority of his fantasy value with a swap to the Pirates, as it is unlikely he would receive save opportunities. Stay tuned for updates and don't make any hasty decisions until Soria is officially shipped from the Tigers.

Tigers | Joakim Soria about to be dealt?

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 09:48:39 -0700

Updating a previous report, Detroit Tigers RP Joakim Soria is a trade candidate, and the Tigers are working to trade him before the deadline Friday, July 31.

Fantasy Tip: If you're a Soria owner, it might be a good time to start looking for alternative save routes, since he might not end up in a closing role if he's dealt. Neftali Feliz may be Detroit's next best option for ninth-inning duties if Soria leaves town. Stash him now if you're desperate for saves in any league.

Tigers | Joakim Soria could be moved

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 13:16:46 -0700

Detroit Tigers RP Joakim Soria may be a player the Tigers are willing to trade before the trade deadline since he will be a free agent this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Soria has been a solid closer for the Tigers this season, but he could lose his fantasy value if he is traded to a team that is looking for a setup man. Owners should monitor the situation over the next few days.

Tigers | Joakim Soria gets 15th save

Wed, 27 May 2015 17:49:36 -0700

Detroit Tigers RP Joakim Soria picked up his 15th save of the season Wednesday, May 27, against the Oakland Athletics.

Fantasy Tip: Soria allowed one walk and one hit, but he struck out two hitters in one scoreless inning. Soria's strikeout rate and opponent BABIP are both well below their career averages, and season-long owners should try to sell-high, if they have other sources of saves.
