Red Sox | Clay Buchholz struggles with control

Sun, 26 Jun 2016 17:28:48 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz allowed five runs, four earned, on seven hits while walking a season-high five and striking out three over 5 1/3 innings in a loss to the Texas Rangers Sunday, June 26.

Fantasy Tip: Buchholz has struggled in two starts since returning to the rotation, and you should be able to find a better alternative on the waiver wire.

White Sox | Todd Frazier ends 11-game homer drought

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 19:49:11 -0700

Chicago White Sox 3B Todd Frazier became the fourth major-leaguer to reach 20 homers Tuesday, June 21, with a solo shot off Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz.

Fantasy Tip: Frazier lifted his average to .136 for the month and .200 for the season with his 1-for-3 effort, which pretty much encapsulates how all-or-nothing he has been this year at the plate. The two-time All-Star batted .257 during his six-year career with the Cincinnati Reds, so maybe he's taking longer to adjust to American League pitching than most expected. His power numbers (20 homers, 45 RBI) are why owners drafted him, so keep rolling with him and hope it gets better soon.

Red Sox | Eduardo Rodriguez's start pushed back

Sat, 18 Jun 2016 17:53:36 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Eduardo Rodriguez will have his next start pushed back from Tuesday, June 21, to Wednesday, June 22, in order to have an extra bullpen session to work on his delivery. SP Clay Buchholz will start Tuesday, June 21, against the Chicago White Sox.

Fantasy Tip: Buchholz is a roll-of-the-dice DFS option in his return to the rotation, but Rodriguez should probably be left on the bench until he proves he is back on track.

Red Sox | Clay Buchholz back in rotation

Sat, 18 Jun 2016 05:45:06 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz has been added to the starting rotation and is scheduled to start against the Chicago White Sox Wednesday, June 22. Buchholz returned to the rotation because the team optioned SP Roenis Elias to Class AAA Pawtucket.

Fantasy Tip: Buchholz has been used out of the bullpen over the last few weeks and did not allow a run in four of his five appearances. He struggled when he was a starter, so owners may want to avoid him for the time being.

Red Sox | Relief win for Clay Buchholz

Sun, 29 May 2016 16:27:51 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz picked up his first win in relief since 2008, allowing one hit and striking out one in a scoreless inning against the Toronto Blue Jays Sunday, May 29.

Fantasy Tip: Buchholz will be coming out of the bullpen for the foreseeable future with Eduardo Rodriguez set to return to the rotation. You can probably cut Buchholz loose in all formats for now.

Red Sox | Clay Buchholz heading to the 'pen

Fri, 27 May 2016 14:21:40 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz will pitch out of the bullpen when SP Eduardo Rodriguez (knee) returns from the disabled list Tuesday, May 31.

Fantasy Tip: It has been a disastrous 10-game stretch to start the season for Buchholz, as he sits with a 6.35 ERA. He was hardly worth owning in the majority of leagues to begin with, but he should be replaced in all formats now. Sometimes, starting pitchers adapt to the bullpen quickly and become high-end relievers, but you'll want to see it before counting on it with Buchholz.

Red Sox | Clay Buchholz leaving rotation?

Thu, 26 May 2016 20:21:52 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz could be removed from the rotation based on comments from manager John Farrell, but no decision has been made or announced.

Fantasy Tip: Buchholz has struggled throughout the year, and even if he remains in the rotation, he isnít worth owning.

Red Sox | Clay Buchholz struggles again Thursday

Thu, 26 May 2016 19:14:22 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz (2-5) allowed six runs on seven hits over five innings in a loss to the Colorado Rockies Thursday, May 26, with no walks and two strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Buchholz has only recorded two quality starts in 10 outings this season and has posted a 6.73 ERA in five games during the month of May, so he should be avoided in all fantasy formats. His next scheduled outing will come against the Baltimore Orioles Tuesday, May 31.

Red Sox | Clay Buchholz to remain in rotation

Mon, 16 May 2016 09:06:50 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz will remain in the starting rotation after allowing five runs in the first two innings against the Houston Astros Sunday, May 15, according to manager John Farrell. Buchholz's ERA sits at 6.11 through eight starts, and he's allowed eight home runs after giving up six in 18 starts in 2015. Buchholz is also sporting the worst strikeout-to-walk ratio (1.60) in his career. He's allowed 19 runs in the first two innings of games and just 12 runs in innings three through seven.

Fantasy Tip: Buchholz is on very shaky ground with both Eduardo Rodriguez and Joe Kelly nearing the end of their rehab assignments. That means Buchholz needs a good outing and quickly, or else he could be bumped to a relief role. He's always had the skills but remains too inconsistent to rely on in mixed leagues right now.

Red Sox | Clay Buchholz attacks strike zone

Wed, 04 May 2016 23:09:05 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz allowed two earned runs, three hits and two walks with six strikeouts over seven innings in a win against the Chicago White Sox Wednesday, May 4. He entered the game with a 6.51 ERA, and manager John Farrell said beforehand that he needed to "attack the strike zone."

Fantasy Tip: Buchholz had just one quality start over his first five outings. Perhaps this impressive road outing will be the thing to jump-start his season after a winless April.
