Mets | Alejandro De Aza draws into the lineup

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 12:52:46 -0700

New York Mets OF Alejandro De Aza is starting in center field and batting eighth against Atlanta Braves SP Matt Wisler Thursday, June 23.

Fantasy Tip: With Yoenis Cespedes out with a wrist injury, De Aza should see a nice run of playing time in center field. However, at this point, De Aza is nothing more desperation fantasy option in all setups. He sits with a .165/.224/.241 slash line, after all.

Mets | Michael Conforto receives injection

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 15:40:38 -0700

New York Mets OF Michael Conforto (wrist) received a cortisone shot in his left wrist Monday, June 13, before he underwent an MRI exam. He was diagnosed with strained cartilage in his wrist, but he thinks he can return to the lineup within a few days without needing surgery. OF Juan Lagares (teeth) had a dental issue Tuesday, June 14, and is feeling "real sore," so OF Alejandro De Aza replaced Conforto. Conforto is hitless in his last 11 at-bats and is hitting .096 (5-for-52) since May 12. The Mets haven't seriously considered sending Conforto to the minors to work on his swing yet.

Fantasy Tip: Wrist and hand injuries for hitters can be debilitating and sap them of their power, so this injury is certainly something to watch closely, especially with the way Conforto has tailed off at the plate of late. When healthy, Conforto can be one of the more impactful young lefty sticks. For now, keep him benched until he returns and proves that his wrist isn't bothering him.

Mets | Michael Conforto out Tuesday

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 12:53:38 -0700

New York Mets OF Michael Conforto (wrist) is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, June 14, against the Pittsburgh Pirates. OF Alejandro De Aza replaces Conforto and will lead off against Pirates SP Jameson Taillon.

Fantasy Tip: Conforto hasn't been hitting well, but the team says this is not a demotion and he is merely getting rest to let the wrist heal. De Aza, despite the leadoff spot, doesn't carry much fantasy value because his bat has been weak in the past seven days (.067 average). You may want to look elsewhere for production.

Mets | Michael Conforto out of the lineup

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 09:32:42 -0700

New York Mets OF Michael Conforto (wrist) is not in the starting lineup against Milwaukee Brewers SP Zach Davies Sunday, June 12. OF Alejandro De Aza will start in left field and is batting seventh. Manager Terry Collins said Conforto should return to the lineup Tuesday, June 14.

Fantasy Tip: De Aza has only two hits in his last 15 at-bats and is batting .191 this season. Owners should be able to find better options to use in their lineups and can avoid De Aza in most fantasy leagues.

Mets | Michael Conforto sitting vs. Milwaukee

Fri, 10 Jun 2016 14:34:23 -0700

New York Mets OF Michael Conforto is not in the starting lineup Friday, June 10. OF Alejandro De Aza is starting in left field and batting second against Milwaukee Brewers SP Junior Guerra Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Conforto has struggled significantly since the calendar flipped to May with a .159/.224/.327 slash line and just 11 runs and 11 RBI. It isn't out of the question to move on from the youngster in shallow setups. De Aza is going to receive more playing time in the short term, but he doesn't warrant attention outside of cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues, as he's just 13-for-62 (.210 batting average) for the season.

Mets | Alejandro De Aza to see more playing time

Wed, 08 Jun 2016 15:14:46 -0700

New York Mets OF Alejandro De Aza will receive more playing time in an effort to kick-start the offense, according to manager Terry Collins.

Fantasy Tip: De Aza is starting just his 10th game of the season Wednesday, June 8, and he has an underwhelming .220 batting average (13-for-59) with one homer and three RBI for the season. With Yoenis Cespedes, Curtis Granderson, Michael Conforto and Juan Lagares also in the outfield mix, though, there won't be enough playing time available for De Aza to carve out anything more than a semi-regular role. At this point, you should limit your exposure to De Aza to cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues.

Mets | Curtis Granderson, Wilmer Flores out

Wed, 08 Jun 2016 12:38:24 -0700

New York Mets OF Curtis Granderson and SS Wilmer Flores are not in the starting lineup Wednesday, June 8. OF Alejandro De Aza is starting in right field and is hitting leadoff, while 3B Ty Kelly draws the start at third base and is batting seventh against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jameson Taillon.

Fantasy Tip: Granderson has provided pop out of the leadoff spot (10 home runs) but not much else for fantasy owners, and his average of .204 leaves a lot to be desired. De Aza hasn't had many opportunities this year (13-for-59) and is nothing more than a deep DFS sleeper hitting leadoff against a youngster making his major league debut. Kelly is a desperation flyer in daily formats.

Mets | Yoenis Cespedes remains sidelined Sunday

Sun, 05 Jun 2016 08:15:16 -0700

New York Mets OF Yoenis Cespedes (hip) remains out of the starting lineup against Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez Sunday, June 5. OF Alejandro De Aza will lead off and play center field. In addition, C Rene Rivera will start behind the plate and bat eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Cespedes should be considered day-to-day because of a sore right hip. De Aza and Rivera are hitting .208 and .194 respectively and are nothing more than desperation sources of cap relief for DFS contests.

Mets | Four starters sitting for Mets

Mon, 30 May 2016 07:44:52 -0700

New York Mets OF Curtis Granderson, OF Michael Conforto, 3B Eric Campbell and C Kevin Plawecki are not in the starting lineup against Chicago White Sox SP Jose Quintana Monday, May 30. OF Juan Lagares will start in center field and is batting first in the lineup. SS Wilmer Flores will start at first base and is batting fifth. OF Alejandro De Aza will start in left field and is batting sixth, while C Rene Rivera will start at catcher and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Lagares has four hits in his last three games and has recorded two home runs and four RBI during that span. He should be a sleeper option in some daily fantasy leagues. De Aza, Flores and Rivera are all hitting under .200 this season and probably can be avoided by owners.

Mets | Alejandro De Aza working at 1B

Thu, 19 May 2016 14:47:15 -0700

New York Mets OF Alejandro De Aza has been working out at first base in an attempt to create more flexibility for the team and increase his playing time. He's unlikely to start at first much because of 1B Lucas Duda, but it could give manager Terry Collins late-game options. De Aza has only 45 plate appearances this year.

Fantasy Tip: De Aza has just seven hits in his 42 at-bats (.167) with a homer and a single RBI. He offers a little bit of power and speed but is a very mediocre option for NL-only owners because of his lack of playing time. He's unlikely to see enough starts at first base to gain eligibility there unless Duda is injured.
