"It's one thing to be able to run and then another whole thing to play football, so I've got a little ways to go," Spencer said. "But it's progress and that's basically what I've been showing this whole time."

Updating a previous report, Dallas Cowboys DE Anthony Spencer (knee) likely will start training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list. Spencer said the team doctors have given him a timetable for his return but would not disclosed the timetable. He is able to walk on his own but is not able to put much weight in his knee.

"Anthony has been an unbelievable player for us," said Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones, who said the Cowboys are open to bringing Spencer back. "Very unfortunate what happened to him last year but very productive. Obviously a guy we think a lot of. We franchised him last year, of course, injuries happen in our game. But he's the type of player you want on your team. We got our fingers crossed and I know he does too on that his injury comes along in the proper way."

Updating a previous item, Dallas Cowboys DE Anthony Spencer (knee) is expected to be fully healthy by January or February of next year, according to Dr. Dan Cooper. It's unknown if Spencer is having microfracture surgery, but his season will be over. "I have, like, soft cartilage on the inner side of my knee that's causing (the pain)," said Spencer, who will be a free agent after this season. "It's not stopping the banging of the bone. It's going to take a little bit more time to heal, and we really don't have time right now."

"Hopefully it gets better, I felt pretty good going into the (Week 2 game at Kansas City)," Spencer said. "I haven't done that much work with it so, it's just sore from the game, I believe, and I'll play it by ear. Hopefully it gets better and if it doesn't then we'll keep going and do what we got to do to get going for the games."
