Lions | Calvin Johnson reaches milestone

Fri, 28 Nov 2014 00:37:09 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson, with his 146 yards on 11 catches Thursday, Nov. 27 against the Chicago Bears, became the fastest wide receiver to 10,000 yards. Johnson did it in his 115th game. The previous recordholder was former St. Louis Rams WR Torry Holt, who reached 10,000 yards in 116 games.

Lions | Calvin Johnson says he's the same guy

Wed, 26 Nov 2014 09:51:09 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson hasn't been putting up big numbers this season, but he denies that he's starting to decline. He's on pace to finish with fewer than 1,000 yards receiving for the first time since 2009, but he continues to say that he's the same player he was when he set the single-season record for receiving yards two years ago. "I think that the biggest thing you can kind of just take a look at is does he still run by people?" head coach Jim Caldwell said. "The answer to that would be yes. Is he still able to lay out, catch the ball and do things that he normally does? Yes. And I think that that's what matters." Since returning from a sprained ankle, Johnson has also faced three of the league's top defenses.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson has been a disappointment to fantasy owners, sure, but his schedule is lightening up at the right time for the fantasy playoffs in standard leagues. In Week 13, he should be worth his $7,900 FantasyScore price against the Chicago Bears on Thanksgiving. Expect Megatron to bust out and feast.

Lions | Calvin Johnson limited Tuesday

Tue, 25 Nov 2014 13:59:00 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) was limited in practice Tuesday, Nov. 25, after sitting out Monday, Nov. 24.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson has been pretty mediocre since his return from injury. However, you should be willing to pay for a bounceback at FantasyScore, even with Megatron costing you $7,900. The Chicago Bears have been very generous to receivers all year long.

Lions | Calvin Johnson sits out Monday

Mon, 24 Nov 2014 13:39:36 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) did not practice Monday, Nov. 24. The Lions didn't practice Monday, so Johnson's designation is an estimation. Johnson has battled an ankle injury since Week 3, but he's played the last three weeks, although he remains less than 100 percent and hasn't reached 60 yards in either of the last two games.

Fantasy Tip: Megatron was held in check by Brandon Browner Sunday, and Johnson continues to disappoint those that have spent heavily on him at FantasyScore since returning from his injury. Have no fear, though, as he should get back on track on Thanksgiving day against a Chicago Bears defense that is friendly to wide receivers.

Lions | Calvin Johnson, Golden Tate probable

Fri, 21 Nov 2014 14:12:05 -0800

Detroit Lions WRs Calvin Johnson (ankle, elbow) and Golden Tate (hip) are both listed as probable for Week 12 against the New England Patriots. Johnson and Tate were both limited in practice Friday, Nov. 21, and Tate was a surprise addition to the injury report.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson ($7,900) is never a bad option for your FantasyScore rosters, but the New England Patriots secondary isn't shabby, especially of late. Tate ($6,700) may have the tougher go of it Sunday if he's covered by Darrelle Revis all day.

Lions | Calvin Johnson limited

Thu, 20 Nov 2014 15:05:15 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle, elbow) was limited in practice Thursday, Nov. 20, after sitting out Wednesday, Nov. 19.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson's injuries are minor at this point, so expect him to play against the New England Patriots. Megatron is a must-start in standard leagues, and at FantasyScore, he'll cost you a hefty $7,900 of your budget. Johnson may find it tough to return you any value against a New England secondary that has been improving.

Lions | Calvin Johnson sits out of practice

Wed, 19 Nov 2014 12:32:17 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (elbow) did not practice Wednesday, Nov. 19.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson said his elbow is fine and that there's just a cut, so he should still be able to play this weekend. He does draw a tough test with Darrelle Revis and/or Brandon Browner, however, which could make his FantasyScore price of $7,900 a little too steep.

Lions | Golden Tate slated for Revis Island

Wed, 19 Nov 2014 07:37:51 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate is expected to be covered by New England Patriots CB Darrelle Revis, while CB Brandon Browner figures to cover WR Calvin Johnson in Week 12.

Fantasy Tip: Tate ($6,700; 13.4% of your cap) was only targeted twice last week with Arizona Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson looming. The matchup and Megatron's return likely hurt him, and he doesn't have a great outlook this week on FantasyScore either. Johnson ($7,900; 15.8%) was targeted 12 times, but he only had a 5-59 line. His prospects are a bit higher, but one must weigh the price and the potential output.

Lions | Golden Tate could draw Peterson matchup

Sun, 16 Nov 2014 05:59:34 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate could be blanketed by Arizona Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson Sunday, Nov. 16. ESPN analyst Merrill Hoge thinks that Peterson is better suited to cover Tate, while CB Antonio Cromartie covers WR Calvin Johnson.

Fantasy Tip: Tate ($7,000; 14.0% of your cap) has loomed large all season, but this matchup could be difficult. Johnson ($7,900; 15.8%) might make for the better buy on FantasyScore today if this situation holds true.

Lions | Probable status for Calvin Johnson

Fri, 14 Nov 2014 13:38:21 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) practiced in full for the second straight day Friday, Nov. 14, and is probable for Week 11 against the Arizona Cardinals.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson will likely be shadowed by Patrick Peterson all game long, but that shouldn't deter you from spending $7,900 on him at FantasyScore. Megatron has bested Peterson several times before in their matchups.

Lions | Calvin Johnson has full practice

Thu, 13 Nov 2014 15:19:01 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) practiced fully Thursday, Nov. 13.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson returned from injury last week to put up seven catches, 113 yards and a touchdown. He's the second most expensive receiver on FantasyScore, but there's always a chance for a big outing with Johnson.

Lions | Calvin Johnson sits

Wed, 12 Nov 2014 11:54:59 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Nov. 12.

Fantasy Tip: Hopefully, it is just a day off for Megatron, and nothing more after he put up solid numbers in Week 10. Johnson is a must start in Week 11, and will cost $7,900 in FantasyScore.

Lions | Calvin Johnson faces stiff test

Wed, 12 Nov 2014 10:50:34 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson will likely be followed by Arizona Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson, one of the top cornerbacks in the league, in Week 11. Johnson has beaten Peterson over the last two years, racking up 16 catches, 237 yards and two touchdowns, but the Cardinals won both of those matchups. "I was disappointed in (my) first half of the season; I believe I wasn't playing to my standards. I was fighting through injuries," Peterson said. "Now that I'm 100 percent, I've turned the corner, and I'm ready to roll from here on out."

Fantasy Tip: Johnson will have his hands full, but he's still a must-start in all fantasy leagues. At FantasyScore, Megatron will cost you $7,900. Spending that much should be easier knowing that Johnson has had the upper hand against Peterson in the past.

Lions | Calvin Johnson in rare company

Sun, 09 Nov 2014 13:55:00 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) returned to the lineup in Week 10 against the Miami Dolphins after a lengthy absence, and he posted seven receptions for 113 yards and a touchdown. The score was his 70th career touchdown (69 receiving, one rushing), joining Hall of Famer RB Barry Sanders as the only other player in franchise history to reach at least 70 touchdowns in a career.

Sun, 09 Nov 2014 10:26:25 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson caught a 49-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter of the team's Week 10 game.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like Johnson has recovered from his ankle injury and is back to producing on the field. Johnson is a must start in most leagues every week.

Lions | Calvin Johnson active

Sun, 09 Nov 2014 08:41:35 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) is active for Week 10 Sunday, Nov. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson ($7,700; 15.4% of your cap) holds a steep price on FantasyScore in his return. We'd shy away for better options.

Lions | Calvin Johnson expected to play

Fri, 07 Nov 2014 14:25:57 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) practiced in full for the third straight day Friday, Nov. 7, and is probable for Week 10 against the Miami Dolphins.

Fantasy Tip: You should be playing Johnson in all standard leagues now that he's back in action. At FantasyScore, however, you may want to be a bit more cautious, since Johnson still comes at top dollar ($7,500; 15.0% of cap).

Lions | Full practice for Calvin Johnson

Thu, 06 Nov 2014 14:31:15 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) practiced in full for the second straight day Thursday, Nov. 6.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson will return to action against the Miami Dolphins this weekend. Despite missing some games with his nagging injury, Johnson is still expensive at FantasyScore ($7,700). In standard leagues, it's hard to argue that he shouldn't be back in your lineups.

Lions | Calvin Johnson a full go

Wed, 05 Nov 2014 13:43:47 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) practiced in full Wednesday, Nov. 5.

Fantasy Tip: It's a great sign for Megatron and his owners. Johnson is very close to being 100 percent, and he said he'll play against the Miami Dolphins. However, he's still expensive at FantasyScore ($7,700), and he might be eased back in, making it difficult to return any kind of profit. Tread carefully.

Wed, 05 Nov 2014 09:07:49 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) said he is close to 100 percent and expects to play in Week 10.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson could be rusty when he returns to the field, but owners will be happy to have him back in their lineups. Johnson costs $7,700 on FantasyScore, but owners may want to limit their expectations since he is coming back from the injury.

Mon, 03 Nov 2014 14:17:29 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) participated in practice Monday, Nov. 3.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson appears on track to play in Week 10, but owners should monitor his practice participation throughout the week to see if he has any setbacks. Johnson could be a starting option, but owners may need to lower their expectations since he has missed several weeks.

Lions | Calvin Johnson expects to return after bye

Wed, 29 Oct 2014 09:32:39 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) said he "definitely expects to play" against the Miami Dolphins after the team's bye week. Johnson has missed the last three games due to a high right ankle sprain. WR Golden Tate has 24 catches for 349 yards and two touchdowns in Johnson's absence.

Fantasy Tip: As soon as Johnson returns to action, he should be returned to fantasy lineups. Tate won't completely disappear, but his value is likely at it's peak for this season.

Lions | Calvin Johnson inactive for Week 8

Sun, 26 Oct 2014 06:12:02 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) is inactive for the Week 8 game Sunday, Oct. 26.

Fantasy Tip: Golden Tate ($6,900; 13.8% of your cap) is a good start at WR2 on FantasyScore against the Atlanta Falcons. However, he needs someone to step up to take the defensive focus off of him due to all of the injuries.

Lions | Calvin Johnson unlikely for Week 8

Fri, 24 Oct 2014 18:47:12 -0700

Updating a previous report, Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) is unlikely to play in Week 8 against the Atlanta Falcons in London, according to a source. The team has a bye in Week 9, and head coach Jim Caldwell is reportedly looking at the big picture.

Fantasy Tip: The Lions are expected to be cautious with Megatron since the team has a bye, and two more weeks to rest rather than putting him out there and possibly having him aggravate his injury again. Fantasy owners will want to play it safe and keep him reserved, or avoid him in FantasyScore. There is just too much risk with Johnson, and the game has a special 9:30am EST start to complicate matters. The absence of Johnson is good news for Golden Tate ($6,900 or 13.8 percent of the cap), as the Falcons pass defense presents another favorable matchup.

Lions | Calvin Johnson will be game-time decision

Fri, 24 Oct 2014 10:47:59 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) will truly be a game-time decision against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 8 in London. Johnson was limited in practice all week and is listed as questionable. "He did work yesterday. I thought he did a pretty good job, but we'll see where he is today," head coach Jim Caldwell said of Johnson before Friday's practice.

Fantasy Tip: You'll have to wake up extra early to see if Megatron is playing, with the London game set for an early start Sunday morning. It's wise to avoid Johnson at FantasyScore for a hefty price tag of $7,500 (15.0% of cap) at FantasyScore. You shouldn't expect more than WR3 numbers with the team's bye next week.

Lions | Calvin Johnson's deal could become issue

Fri, 24 Oct 2014 07:51:16 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson has a $20 million salary cap number in 2015, and it escalates to $24 million in 2016. The team is more likely to address the contract in 2016, rather than 2015, because of the potential of $12.921 million in dead money, in the opinion of writer Joel Corry.

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) is listed as questionable for the Week 8 game Sunday, Oct. 26. Johnson was limited in practice Friday, Oct. 24.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson ($7,500; 15% of your cap) probably won't play if the team sticks to its stance they'll hold him out until he's 100%. They have a slew of injuries, though, so it's not out of the question that he plays this weekend. However, he's not a good buy on FantasyScore this week.

Lions | Calvin Johnson encouraged with progress

Thu, 23 Oct 2014 10:21:45 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) has been more encouraged about the progress of his high right ankle sprain this week, even though he's been limited in practices so far. "Good. We're doing everything from straight-forward running to moving laterally as well," Johnson said. "Things are going good. We're moving in a positive direction." However, Johnson said a decision on whether he'll play in Week 8 against the Atlanta Falcons could come down to a game-time decision in London. Head coach Jim Caldwell said the decision will come down to doctors.

Fantasy Tip: Regardless, Johnson is a considerable risk at FantasyScore for $7,500 (15.0% of cap). If he's active, though, you'll have a much easier time inserting him into your lineups. With Detroit's bye next week, the Lions surely won't test his injury too much.

Lions | Calvin Johnson limited

Thu, 23 Oct 2014 08:51:52 -0700

Updating a previous report, Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) was limited during practice Thursday, Oct. 23.

Fantasy Tip: It appears Johnson has a chance to play in Week 8, but owners will know more about his status in the next day or two. Johnson could be limited if he is active for the game and may not be worth his $7,500 price tag on FantasyScore this week.

Thu, 23 Oct 2014 07:12:05 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) did a lot more in practice Thursday, Oct. 23, as he was cutting and running routes.

Fantasy Tip: Megatron's activity in practice sheds a glimmer of hope for his status in Week 8. His $7,500 (15% of your cap) price tag on FantasyScore may still be too steep to bite on this week, though.

Lions | Calvin Johnson must be 100 percent

Tue, 21 Oct 2014 14:11:02 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) will only return in Week 8 against the Atlanta Falcons if he's 100 percent healthy, according to head coach Jim Caldwell. "It's not going to be a thing of degrees," Caldwell said. "When they say he's cleared, he's ready to go and he's feeling great, when they doctors say, OK, that's when it's going to happen. It's not going to be a whole lot of in between." Johnson has missed six straight practices.

Fantasy Tip: We'll have a better indication of how healthy Johnson is when the team starts official practice tomorrow. Johnson's price at FantasyScore ($7,500; 15.0% of cap) has dropped slightly because of his injury, but he'll be worth it if he suits up against the Atlanta Falcons in London.

Lions | Calvin Johnson resumes running

Tue, 21 Oct 2014 10:03:27 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) said he is back to running Tuesday, Oct. 21. Johnson sat out in Week 7 against the New Orleans Saints and appears to be trying to return sooner rather than later.

Fantasy Tip: It's a good sign for Johnson's owners, but it doesn't mean a whole lot yet until we see if he can return to practice this week. Detroit faces the Atlanta Falcons in London this weekend. It's a great matchup if Megatron can return to action.

Mon, 20 Oct 2014 10:17:10 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) will travel with the team for their Week 8 game in London, according to head coach Jim Caldwell.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson's status for the game is uncertain, so owners will need to see if he will be able to do anything during practice this week. Johnson could be limited if he is able to play and would be a risky play.

Lions | Calvin Johnson misses another practice

Fri, 17 Oct 2014 09:12:34 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) didn't practice for the sixth straight day Friday, Oct. 17. Head coach Jim Caldwell isn't ruling him out for Week 7 against the New Orleans Saints, but he also didn't make it sound like Johnson would play, either. Johnson said earlier this week that he sees no reason to rush back to the field until he's completely healthy. The team will lean heavily on WRs Golden Tate, Corey Fuller and Jeremy Ross, along with RBs Joique Bell and Reggie Bush if Johnson doesn't play again.

Fantasy Tip: It's highly unlikely that we see Megatron play against the Saints. Avoid him everywhere. Tate's price ($6,300; 12.6% of cap) has gone up with Johnson hobbled, but he could still return a profit against a weak New Orleans defense.

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) is likely out for Week 7 as head coach Jim Caldwell said "it might take a miracle" for Johnson to play.

Fantasy Tip: Megatron ($7,900; 15.8% of your cap) should be avoided on FantasyScore this week. Golden Tate ($6,300; 12.6%) was targeted 12 times last week and remains a solid WR2. However, the New Orleans Saints can key in on him in Megatron's absence.

Wed, 15 Oct 2014 11:12:59 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) said there is no point in rushing back to play until he is fully healed and ready to compete at a high level. Both he and head coach Jim Caldwell have been non-committal as to whether Johnson will play in Week 7 against the New Orleans Saints. Johnson said there is still pain "lingering there." "Not beating it up," Johnson said. "Not getting out there, rolling it again, it definitely helps you. More and more you can stay off that particular area, the faster it can heal."

Fantasy Tip: All signs are pointing to Johnson sitting out for the second straight week. Avoid him in your FantasyScore lineups.

Fantasy Tip: It's highly unlikely that Johnson suits up to play this weekend against the Saints, and he could be held out through the team's Week 9 bye so that he can heal up completely. It's not wise to use Megatron at FantasyScore this weekend.

Lions | Calvin Johnson could miss two more weeks

Mon, 13 Oct 2014 09:55:11 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) could miss the next two weeks after sitting out in Week 6, according to head coach Jim Caldwell. The team has a bye in Week 9. "I do not hold a medical degree. It may appear I do from time to time to you maybe, but I don't," Caldwell said. "The fact of the matter is I leave it up to the doctors. Those are the professionals. They know exactly what it takes. Johnson suffered a high right ankle sprain in Week 3 against the Green Bay Packers, and he's missed nine of the last 11 full practices.

Fantasy Tip: Plan to be without the services of Megatron until after the team's Week 9 bye. The Lions don't want to bring him back as just a decoy again, so they may play it cautious and have him rest up. In his absence, Golden Tate will be the biggest contributor in the passing game.
