Lions | Calvin Johnson resumes running

Tue, 21 Oct 2014 10:03:27 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) said he is back to running Tuesday, Oct. 21. Johnson sat out in Week 7 against the New Orleans Saints and appears to be trying to return sooner rather than later.

Fantasy Tip: It's a good sign for Johnson's owners, but it doesn't mean a whole lot yet until we see if he can return to practice this week. Detroit faces the Atlanta Falcons in London this weekend. It's a great matchup if Megatron can return to action.

Lions | Calvin Johnson going to London

Mon, 20 Oct 2014 10:17:10 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) will travel with the team for their Week 8 game in London, according to head coach Jim Caldwell.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson's status for the game is uncertain, so owners will need to see if he will be able to do anything during practice this week. Johnson could be limited if he is able to play and would be a risky play.

Lions | Calvin Johnson non-committal about Week 8

Sun, 19 Oct 2014 16:20:25 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) would not give any indication whether he would play in Week 8 against the Atlanta Falcons. After the Week 7 game Sunday, Oct. 19, he simply said, "maybe" as he was asked about his playing status next week.

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners will want to keep an eye on the practice report this week. Johnson likely won't be pressed back into duty until he is 100 percent.

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) is inactive for the game Sunday, Oct. 19.

Fantasy Tip: Golden Tate ($6,300; 12.6% of your cap) is a good WR2 on FantasyScore today against the New Orleans Saints.

Sun, 19 Oct 2014 08:11:55 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) is unlikely to play Sunday, Oct. 19. He's unlikely to play in Week 8 as well.

Lions | Calvin Johnson questionable

Fri, 17 Oct 2014 13:01:22 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) is listed as questionable for Week 7 against the New Orleans Saints.

Fantasy Tip: The team continues to hold out slim hope that Johnson can return this weekend, but it's highly unlikely. Johnson even said himself that there's no point in rushing back. Avoid him everywhere.

Lions | Calvin Johnson misses another practice

Fri, 17 Oct 2014 09:12:34 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) didn't practice for the sixth straight day Friday, Oct. 17. Head coach Jim Caldwell isn't ruling him out for Week 7 against the New Orleans Saints, but he also didn't make it sound like Johnson would play, either. Johnson said earlier this week that he sees no reason to rush back to the field until he's completely healthy. The team will lean heavily on WRs Golden Tate, Corey Fuller and Jeremy Ross, along with RBs Joique Bell and Reggie Bush if Johnson doesn't play again.

Fantasy Tip: It's highly unlikely that we see Megatron play against the Saints. Avoid him everywhere. Tate's price ($6,300; 12.6% of cap) has gone up with Johnson hobbled, but he could still return a profit against a weak New Orleans defense.

Lions | Calvin Johnson likely out

Fri, 17 Oct 2014 07:54:51 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) is likely out for Week 7 as head coach Jim Caldwell said "it might take a miracle" for Johnson to play.

Fantasy Tip: Megatron ($7,900; 15.8% of your cap) should be avoided on FantasyScore this week. Golden Tate ($6,300; 12.6%) was targeted 12 times last week and remains a solid WR2. However, the New Orleans Saints can key in on him in Megatron's absence.

Lions | Calvin Johnson not practicing

Thu, 16 Oct 2014 11:47:12 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) is not participating in practice Thursday, Oct. 16.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson looks like he will not be able to play in Week 7, but things could change over the next few days. Johnson costs $7,900 on FantasyScore, but owners should consider using their money on healthier options.

Lions | Calvin Johnson won't rush back

Wed, 15 Oct 2014 11:12:59 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) said there is no point in rushing back to play until he is fully healed and ready to compete at a high level. Both he and head coach Jim Caldwell have been non-committal as to whether Johnson will play in Week 7 against the New Orleans Saints. Johnson said there is still pain "lingering there." "Not beating it up," Johnson said. "Not getting out there, rolling it again, it definitely helps you. More and more you can stay off that particular area, the faster it can heal."

Fantasy Tip: All signs are pointing to Johnson sitting out for the second straight week. Avoid him in your FantasyScore lineups.

Lions | Calvin Johnson not practicing

Wed, 15 Oct 2014 11:11:16 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) isn't practicing Wednesday, Oct. 15, but he's not giving up on playing in Week 7 against the New Orleans Saints. Johnson said he still has pain in his ankle, but he's trying to get right for Sunday, Oct. 19.

Fantasy Tip: It's highly unlikely that Johnson suits up to play this weekend against the Saints, and he could be held out through the team's Week 9 bye so that he can heal up completely. It's not wise to use Megatron at FantasyScore this weekend.

Lions | Calvin Johnson unsure of status

Wed, 15 Oct 2014 09:18:13 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) said he is not sure if he will be able to practice this week because of his injured ankle.

Fantasy Tip: Owners can monitor his practice participation this week, but the team may decide to hold him out of their Week 7 game so he can rest his ankle. Johnson costs $7,900 on FantasyScore, but owners probably should avoid using him because of his uncertain status.

Lions | Calvin Johnson could miss two more weeks

Mon, 13 Oct 2014 09:55:11 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) could miss the next two weeks after sitting out in Week 6, according to head coach Jim Caldwell. The team has a bye in Week 9. "I do not hold a medical degree. It may appear I do from time to time to you maybe, but I don't," Caldwell said. "The fact of the matter is I leave it up to the doctors. Those are the professionals. They know exactly what it takes. Johnson suffered a high right ankle sprain in Week 3 against the Green Bay Packers, and he's missed nine of the last 11 full practices.

Fantasy Tip: Plan to be without the services of Megatron until after the team's Week 9 bye. The Lions don't want to bring him back as just a decoy again, so they may play it cautious and have him rest up. In his absence, Golden Tate will be the biggest contributor in the passing game.

Lions | Calvin Johnson out today

Sun, 12 Oct 2014 08:28:27 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) will not play Sunday, Oct. 12.

Fantasy Tip: Golden Tate ($5,900; 11.8% of your cap) becomes a bit of a risk on FantasyScore this weekend without Megatron to keep defenses honest.

Lions | Calvin Johnson doubtful

Fri, 10 Oct 2014 13:09:50 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) did not participate in practice Friday, Oct. 10, and is doubtful for the team's Week 6 game.

Fantasy Tip: It seems very unlikely that Johnson will be able to play this week, keep him out of your FantasyScore lineups. Golden Tate and Eric Ebron should see an increase in work as a result if Johnson can't go.

Lions | Calvin Johnson missed another practice

Fri, 10 Oct 2014 09:42:32 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) skipped his third straight practice of the week Friday, Oct. 10, for the first time this year. Head coach Jim Caldwell said a decision on Johnson's status for Week 6 against the Minnesota Vikings has not been determined, however. "And also, you never know. There's a possibility. A couple weeks ago, I really didn't think he'd be available but the fact of the matter is he came out after doctors looked at him and said, hey, you know what, he can go," Caldwell said. WRs Corey Fuller, Jeremy Ross and Ryan Broyles and TE Eric Ebron would be tasked with replacing Johnson as a committee if he doesn't play.

Fantasy Tip: Despite Caldwell being non-committal on Johnson, it seems unlikely that he'll play. Keep him out of your FantasyScore lineups this weekend. Golden Tate and Ebron stand to benefit the most with added targets.

Lions | Short-term injury for Megatron?

Thu, 09 Oct 2014 20:25:32 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson's (ankle) high ankle sprain is not expected to affect him all year, according to head coach Jim Caldwell. "You know, the doctors have not given us any indication that there is any real threat of a long-term issue," Caldwell said.

Fantasy Tip: Although it is good news for fantasy owners that Johnson is expected to be 100 percent healthy again this year, it's tough to justify paying for his services at FantasyScore until he is back at full speed.

Lions | Calvin Johnson does not practice

Thu, 09 Oct 2014 11:49:23 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) did not participate in practice Thursday, Oct. 9.

Fantasy Tip: It continues to seem unlikely that Johnson will play in Week 6. Avoid spending $7,900 (15.8% of cap) on him in FantasyScore, and look to put Golden Tate in your lineup again.

Lions | Calvin Johnson doesn't practice

Wed, 08 Oct 2014 13:07:07 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) missed his third straight practice Wednesday, Oct. 8. The Lions will "strongly" considering sitting Johnson out in Week 6 against the Minnesota Vikings. "It's one of those deals where we take it week by week," head coach Jim Caldwell said. "He's a veteran. He knows his body better than anyone and the doctors will confer and kind of give us their prognosis." Johnson said the pain in his ankle comes when he plants his foot on the ground.

Fantasy Tip: As of now, it seems unlikely that Johnson will play against the Vikings. That makes him a very poor FantasyScore investment for $7,900 (15.8% of cap). Look to put Golden Tate or Eric Ebron in your lineups once again.

Lions | Calvin Johnson cautious with injury

Wed, 08 Oct 2014 12:17:55 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) said he wants to be smart about his ankle injury to make sure he is there for the team long term. "You want to be smart. You don't want to put yourself in a position where you can't be there for the team down to the end."

Fantasy Tip: Even if Johnson is able to get on the field in Week 6, he may not be worth starting. You will likely be better served waiting for Johnson to return to full health.

Lions | Calvin Johnson has high ankle sprain

Wed, 08 Oct 2014 08:56:15 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) is dealing with a high ankle sprain but said he hopes to play in Week 6. He also said he's not frustrated that he has been being used as a decoy when on the field.

Fantasy Tip: His lingering injury and apparent acceptance of his dud of a fantasy role shouldn't make fantasy owners smile. Even if he does suit up, his stud price of $7,900 on FantasyScore isn't worth daily gamers' trouble. At $5,900, Golden Tate is the better Detroit wideout play.

Lions | Calvin Johnson showing frustration

Tue, 07 Oct 2014 09:26:45 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) has been frustrated that he has had to play at less than 100 percent on his bum ankle. "Players always want to play. You know he is a gamer," NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said. "But he wants to make sure he gets this ankle healed for the long haul." It sounds as though it's unlikely that Johnson will play in Week 6 against the Minnesota Vikings.

Fantasy Tip: Megatron is now expected to sit out this weekend, so you shouldn't be looking to use him at FantasyScore. Golden Tate, who has proven he is a legit second option for Matthew Stafford, and Eric Ebron, should continue to benefit in the passing game, especially with Reggie Bush and Joique Bell beat up.

Lions | Calvin Johnson status update

Mon, 06 Oct 2014 12:10:36 -0700

Updating previous reports, Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) is "strongly" being considered for sitting out Week 6, according to head coach Jim Caldwell.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson has been next to non-existent the past two weeks and it might behoove the Lions to hold him out for a week of recovery. If Johnson doesn't play, Golden Tate would garner WR1 consideration.

Lions | Calvin Johnson may sit out

Mon, 06 Oct 2014 10:04:18 -0700

Updating a previous report, Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) may be held out of the team's Week 6 game because of his ankle injury, according to head coach Jim Caldwell. Caldwell said the team considered making Johnson inactive for Week 5 and will strongly consider it for Week 6.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson has been limited to three catches and 19 yards in his last two games because of his injury. Johnson may need to sit out a few weeks to allow his ankle injury to heal. Owners in all leagues should avoid using Johnson this upcoming week since it looks like he will not play.

Lions | Calvin Johnson may miss time

Mon, 06 Oct 2014 07:57:17 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) could miss a week or two after he aggravated his ankle injury in Week 5 Sunday, Oct. 5.

Fantasy Tip: Golden Tate may have it a little rough for a couple of weeks as defenses will likely shift their focus to him. Keep an eye on Megatron's status, but he clearly isn't a good option on FantasyScore right now until he's healthy.

Lions | Calvin Johnson aggravates injury

Sun, 05 Oct 2014 16:10:02 -0700

Updating a previous report, Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) re-injured his right ankle in the third quarter of the Week 5 game against the Buffalo Bills while making his only catch of the contest. Johnson grabbed his lower right leg as he went down and did not return to the game. "I won't be certain if it's a long-term issue, but he did take a pretty good whack right there on the side of his leg," head coach Jim Caldwell said Sunday, Oct. 5. "They looked at it, but they'll evaluated him further, probably tomorrow and get a good look at him."

Fantasy Tip: Johnson was a decoy in Week 4, and he might as well have been a decoy in Week 5. He has killed his fantasy owners the past two weeks, but is clearly not 100 percent and at least trying to play through the injury. It wouldn't be surprising to see Johnson miss time if he doesn't vastly improve.

Lions | Calvin Johnson questionable to return

Sun, 05 Oct 2014 12:02:25 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) is questionable to return to Week 5's game against the Buffalo Bills because of an ankle injury.

Fantasy Tip: Megatron appeared to reinjure the same ankle that had been bothering him for the last few weeks on his first catch of the game, several minutes into the third quarter. It would be surprising to see him come back.

Lions | Calvin Johnson active today

Sun, 05 Oct 2014 08:31:34 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) is active Sunday, Oct. 5, in Week 5. He's not expected to serve as a decoy like he did last week.

Fantasy Tip: This is good news, but there is still risk with his $7,900 price tag (15.8% of your cap) on FantasyScore today.

Lions | Calvin Johnson amping it up

Sun, 05 Oct 2014 08:12:26 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) is doing more drills early in pre-game Sunday, Oct. 5, than he did last week.

Fantasy Tip: Megatron appears to have a good chance to play today. However, at $7,900 (15.8% of your cap) on FantasyScore, his price tag may not be worth the risk if he's limited.

Sun, 05 Oct 2014 06:26:44 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) is telling friends that he will play Sunday, Oct. 5, in Week 5.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson's $7,900 price tag (15.8% of your cap) on FantasyScore may be a little too steep to risk that Johnson is limited or used as a decoy again.

Lions | Calvin Johnson questionable

Fri, 03 Oct 2014 13:19:50 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) was limited in practice Friday, Oct. 3, and is questionable for Week 5 against the Buffalo Bills.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson played last week and was ineffective, so there's a chance the Lions hold him out this weekend. The good news is the team has an early game Sunday. The bad news is that Johnson could be limited again if he plays. For his hefty price tag, it's a big risk at FantasyScore.

Lions | Calvin Johnson could miss Week 5?

Fri, 03 Oct 2014 09:26:33 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) could miss the team's Week 5 game against the Buffalo Bills if he doesn't improve soon, according to head coach Jim Caldwell. Caldwell was non-committal when asked if Johnson will play this weekend. Johnson missed practice Wednesday, Oct. 1, and Thursday, Oct. 2, but returned to practice Friday, Oct. 3. He was targeted only twice last week and had two catches for just 12 yards. Johnson has 21 catches for 341 yards and two touchdowns this season.

Fantasy Tip: It's wise to avoid Johnson and his hefty FantasyScore salary ($7,900; 15.8% of cap) this weekend, as there's a good chance he may be limited again. As a result, Golden Tate and Eric Ebron once again become nice sleeper plays. Reggie Bush ($6,400; 12.8% of cap) could see a giant boost in utilizations if Joique Bell (concussion) can't go.

Lions | Calvin Johnson absent again

Thu, 02 Oct 2014 14:27:48 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) missed his fourth practice of the season Thursday, Oct. 2. He returned to practice last Friday and played in Week 4, but he was limited in what he could do.

Fantasy Tip: We expect Megatron to suit up again, but the big question again will be whether he'll be limited again. It might not be worth taking the chance on him at FantasyScore because of his hefty price tag.

Lions | Calvin Johnson misses practice

Wed, 01 Oct 2014 13:20:45 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson was limited by the injury in Week 4 and only caught two passes for 12 yards. Johnson said he is feeling better but could still be limited by the injury in Week 5, so he should be seen as an injury risk. Johnson costs $7,900 on FantasyScore, which may be too expensive for owners based on his injury.

Lions | Calvin Johnson feeling better

Wed, 01 Oct 2014 09:12:16 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) said he's feeling much better this week than he did at the same point last week.

Fantasy Tip: It's good news, but let's wait to see what Johnson's practice status is throughout the week. That'll give us a much better idea of how improved his health really is. Expect him to play in Week 5. His price hasn't come down much at FantasyScore ($7,900).

Lions | Megatron used as a decoy

Mon, 29 Sep 2014 05:28:14 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) was used as a decoy for the most part in Week 4 Sunday, Sept. 28. He caught the only two passes he was targeted in for 12 yards and laughed when he was asked if he was close to 90 percent health. He rarely played on back-to-back plays in Sunday's game and had a noticeable limp.

Fantasy Tip: He's expected to continue playing through the injury and remains a must-start in most formats.

Lions | Calvin Johnson sets new low

Sun, 28 Sep 2014 13:18:09 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) was active in Week 4 against the New York Jets, but he managed just two catches for 12 yards. It was a career low in yardage in a Lions victory. Detroit lost the previous six times he was held under 20 receiving yards.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson was obviously not 100 percent, and hurt many fantasy owners in this one. He'll have a whole week to get well, but check back Friday when the official injury report comes out to get a better idea for his status in Week 5.

Lions | Calvin Johnson on track for Sunday?

Fri, 26 Sep 2014 20:32:15 -0700

Updating a previous report, Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) appears to be trending toward playing in the Week 4 game against the New York Jets after a limited practice Friday, Sept. 26. "It was good to see him moving around a little bit," quarterback Matthew Stafford said.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson is facing the league's No. 2 ranked defense, so the matchups isn't great even if he is able to play. With the tough matchup and injury, Johnson is a risky play in FantasyScore at $8900 (or 17.8 percent of the salary cap) even if he is active.

Lions | Calvin Johnson questionable

Fri, 26 Sep 2014 14:16:38 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) was limited in practice Friday, Sept. 26, and is questionable for the team's Week 4 game.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson is the most expensive wide receiver on the board with a cost of $8,900 (17.80% of cap) in FantasyScore. With his status not being known, and the potential that he could be limited, its probably best to avoid him this week.

Jets | Antonio Allen to cover Megatron

Thu, 25 Sep 2014 13:20:21 -0700

New York Jets CB Antonio Allen will match up against Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson in Week 4, and the converted safety wants to hold him to zero catches. Allen was thrown at 16 times and allowed 10 catches for 104 yards in Week 3 against the Chicago Bears while mostly working against WR Alshon Jeffery.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson is a strong play against the Jets and Allen, who should be targeted often again. However, check back tomorrow to see Johnson's status. He's been dealing with an ankle injury that he suffered in Week 3.

Lions | Calvin Johnson's status unknown

Thu, 25 Sep 2014 13:06:44 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson's (ankle) status for Week 4 against the New York Jets is unknown after he missed his second straight day of practice Thursday, Sept. 25. Johnson said Wednesday, Sept. 24, that he would be fine for Sunday, Sept. 28. The Lions would likely look for WRs Corey Fuller and Ryan Broyles to step up Sunday if Johnson can't play.

Fantasy Tip: This is becoming a bigger concern for Johnson and his owners. It still seems doubtful that Megatron will miss the game against the Jets, but you have to plan now for that possibility, or the fact that he might be limited. It makes his top price for wideouts of $8,900 (17.8% of cap) at FantasyScore less appealing.

Fantasy Tip: It was the second straight missed practice for Johnson this week, and something that will have to be monitored heading into the weekend. Johnson would cost $8,900 in FantasyScore, and it is tough to think he will live up to those expectations at this point even if he is on the field.

Lions | Calvin Johnson not practicing

Wed, 24 Sep 2014 13:35:55 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) did not practice Wednesday, Sept. 24, but he insists that he'll play in Week 4 against the New York Jets. It was his first missed practice of the season, and it looks like he's hurting more than he's letting on.

Fantasy Tip: This is an injury worth watching, but it won't keep Megatron out of action against the Jets. With a weak New York secondary, look for Johnson to have a big game, unless his ankle slows him down considerably.

Lions | Calvin Johnson excited to face Jets

Wed, 24 Sep 2014 13:07:41 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson is licking his chops as he prepares to face the New York Jets in Week 4. "Single coverage high" is the scheme that New York used often against the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears, and it led to big games for those teams' receivers. The Jets have been thin at cornerback due to injuries early this year. Johnson is fourth in the league in receiving yards (329) this year, and he has five catches and two touchdowns of 20 yards or more. If the Jets decide to double team Johnson, WR Golden Tate, who has 16 catches for 201 yards, could benefit. Johnson expects the Jets to play him man to man, because they love to blitz.

Fantasy Tip: Megatron is the most expensive receiver at FantasyScore this week ($8,900; 17.8% of cap), but he may still be a valuable option against the Jets, especially after a down week in Week 3.
