Orioles | Pedro Alvarez sitting vs. southpaw

Fri, 20 May 2016 15:18:09 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 1B Pedro Alvarez is not in the starting lineup against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim left-handed SP Hector Santiago Friday, May 20. SS Paul Janish is starting at the hot corner and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Expect to see Alvarez rested most days when the O's face a left-handed hurler. Janish has a career .215 average with seven home runs in eight big league seasons, so there's no incentive for you to click on him in daily formats this evening.

Orioles | Pedro Alvarez, Ryan Flaherty out

Sat, 07 May 2016 09:04:25 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 1B Pedro Alvarez and 2B Ryan Flaherty are not in the starting lineup for the first game of a doubleheader against the Oakland Athletics Saturday, May 7. OF Mark Trumbo will serve as the designated hitter. OF Nolan Reimold will start in left field and is batting seventh, while SS Paul Janish will start at shortstop and is batting ninth against Athletics SP Rich Hill.

Fantasy Tip: Reimold and Janish are in the starting lineup because the team is facing a left-handed pitcher. Reimold is hitting .333 with one home run and three RBI against lefties this season and could be a sleeper option in daily fantasy leagues. Janish was recently recalled from the minor leagues and can be avoided.

Sat, 03 Oct 2015 14:44:29 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SS J.J. Hardy is out of the lineup for Game 2 of a doubleheader Saturday, Oct. 3, with SS Paul Janish hitting ninth.

Orioles | J.J. Hardy sitting out against Rays

Sun, 20 Sep 2015 08:04:56 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SS J.J. Hardy is not in the starting lineup Sunday, Sept. 20. SS Paul Janish is starting at shortstop and batting ninth against Tampa Bay Rays SP Jake Odorizzi Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Hardy ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) is struggling this season with a .213/.245/.309 slash line, and he doesn't move the needle enough to roster in the majority of seasonal leagues. Janish ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) enters with little FantasyScore value, and he should be viewed as nothing more than a desperation source of cap relief Sunday.

Orioles | Ryan Flaherty will not start

Sat, 29 Aug 2015 15:30:50 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 2B Ryan Flaherty is not in the starting lineup against Texas Rangers SP Martin Perez Saturday, Aug. 29. SS Paul Janish will start at shortstop and is batting ninth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Flaherty ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) should return to the lineup in the next game or two. Janish is not a great starting option in any fantasy league.

Orioles | Paul Janish draws into the lineup

Tue, 25 Aug 2015 15:14:30 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SS Paul Janish is starting at shortstop and batting ninth against Kansas City Royals SP Danny Duffy Tuesday, Aug. 25.

Fantasy Tip: Janish was just recalled, and he could hold fleeting value in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues while J.J. Hardy ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) is out. You'll likely want to aim higher than Janish in daily contests Tuesday, though. Over his last 221 games in the majors, he owns a .202/.259/.250 slash line.

Wed, 12 Feb 2014 16:54:52 -0800

Colorado Rockies minor league manager Glenallen Hill pointed out that 2B Josh Rutledge is more successful at the plate when he hits with his hands lower during their time working together in 2013. "He came up to me and told me when I was hitting well, my hands were lower," Rutledge said. "I started to feel better after that. Glenallen helped me a lot, and gave me at-bats and a chance to have success." Rutledge will compete with OF Charlie Culberson and SS Paul Janish for roster spots this spring.
