Cardinals | Drew Stanton returns to practice

Thu, 18 Dec 2014 17:48:30 -0800

Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton (knee) returned to practice on a limited basis Thursday, Dec. 18. He spent a portion of practice on an exercise bike working with trainers.

Fantasy Tip: Stanton still isn't expected to return for a few more weeks, and in the meantime, fantasy owners will want to avoid all members of Arizona's passing attack, especially against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 16.

Cardinals | No practice for Drew Stanton

Wed, 17 Dec 2014 17:07:29 -0800

Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton (knee) did not practice Wednesday, Dec. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Stanton is not expected to play, so QB Ryan Lindley is in line to start in Week 16 against the Seattle Seahawks. It's a terrible matchup for the third-string signal caller, so FantasyScore owners should ignore him.

Cardinals | Drew Stanton has no timetable

Wed, 17 Dec 2014 16:17:33 -0800

Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton (knee) said this injury is different from any other he's ever had, and he said it's too soon to know if he could return to play in Week 16 against the Seattle Seahawks. He hasn't had any setbacks and started jogging with a brace on his right knee this week. Stanton watched practice Wednesday, Dec. 17, and has thrown a ball recently. "It's felt good," Stanton said. "It's one of those things you just go to kinda take time and the healing process is different for everybody."

Fantasy Tip: Stanton almost certainly won't play this weekend against the Seahawks, and the Cardinals will likely rest him up until the playoffs. Avoid Ryan Lindley ($3,600) against Seattle at FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Drew Stanton could miss 2-4 weeks

Mon, 15 Dec 2014 13:45:20 -0800

Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton (knee) could be out two to four weeks, according to head coach Bruce Arians. "Everybody's so different in how they heal," Arians said. "So much of it's your makeup mentally -- how bad do you want to heal? And he wants to heal up fast. We'll see."

Fantasy Tip: There's a very good chance we won't see Stanton again until the Cardinals' first playoff game this year. In his place, Ryan Lindley is expected to start against the Seattle Seahawks in a very important divisional matchup. Look to avoid Lindley against a Seattle defense that is among the toughest in the league right now.

Cardinals | Drew Stanton to return for playoffs?

Sat, 13 Dec 2014 12:59:05 -0800

Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton (knee) is expected back for the playoffs after suffering what has been determined to be a Grade 2 MCL sprain.

Fantasy Tip: Stanton won't be serviceable for the remainder of the fantasy football season. His backup, Ryan Lindley, is not a reliable option in seasonal or daily leagues.

Cardinals | No surgery for Drew Stanton

Fri, 12 Dec 2014 13:42:18 -0800

Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton (knee) will not need surgery to fix his injured right knee, but there is no timetable for his return, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Fantasy Tip: Stanton's season isn't technically over, but it remains to be seen if he can return from this injury before the playoffs. That'll mean it's either Ryan Lindley or Logan Thomas next week against the Seattle Seahawks. We recommend avoiding whoever starts there at FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Drew Stanton has ligament damage

Fri, 12 Dec 2014 11:21:14 -0800

Updating a previous report, Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton (knee) was officially diagnosed with a sprained anterior cruciate ligament and a Grade 2 medial collateral ligament sprain of his knee.

Fantasy Tip: Stanton dodged a bullet, but considering his past issues with the same knee, it's hard to believe he'll play in the final three regular season games. That'd leave the Cardinals with either Ryan Lindley or rookie Logan Thomas at the helm. Neither is an option we'd suggest for FantasyScore lineups moving forward.

Cardinals | Drew Stanton has sprained knee

Fri, 12 Dec 2014 10:07:02 -0800

Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton (knee) has been diagnosed with a sprained knee, and he's listed as week-to-week, according to a source. Stanton's season isn't believed to be finished.

Fantasy Tip: It's great news for Stanton and the Cardinals, but if you were relying on him in your fantasy league, you probably have bigger problems. If Stanton can't play next week against the Seattle Seahawks, either Ryan Lindley or Logan Thomas would go. They are not worth your attention at FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Drew Stanton going for tests

Fri, 12 Dec 2014 09:11:40 -0800

Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton (knee) will undergo more tests when the team returns to Arizona, according to head coach Bruce Arians. "We'll take it very slow with him and see how it goes once we get in the MRI and all that information," Arians said. Stanton suffered a right knee injury as a rookie in 2007 and had surgery, and he also tore ligaments in his right knee in 2003 in college. QB Ryan Lindley replaced Stanton in the game Thursday, Dec. 11, with Arians electing Lindley over rookie QB Logan Thomas because of Lindley's experience.

Fantasy Tip: We should know the extent of Stanton's injury later today or tomorrow. If he's forced to miss time, the team will likely stick with Lindley at QB. You can ignore Lindley in all leagues, including at FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Drew Stanton may have ACL injury

Fri, 12 Dec 2014 06:47:40 -0800

Updating previous reports, Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton (knee) may have suffered an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament. He had a previous tear in the same knee.

Fantasy Tip: Ryan Lindley will likely start next week, but he's not worth using on FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Drew Stanton ruled out for game

Thu, 11 Dec 2014 20:01:51 -0800

Cardinals | Drew Stanton injures knee

Thu, 11 Dec 2014 19:39:06 -0800

Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton (knee) is questionable to return to the team's game Thursday, Dec. 11, after suffering a right knee injury. QB Ryan Lindley replaced Stanton.

Fantasy Tip: Arizona's offense has already been struggling since Carson Palmer went down with a knee injury, and if Stanton misses time, it is tough to trust any of the Cardinals' receivers with a third-string QB under center.

Cardinals | Cards better with Fitzgerald playing

Thu, 11 Dec 2014 16:56:03 -0800

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald has been key to the team's and QB Drew Stanton's success this year. The Cardinals lost both of the games that Fitzgerald sat out with a knee injury, and Stanton has thrown just one touchdown and four interceptions and is averaging a paltry 6.6 yards per pass attempt without Fitz, according to ESPN Stats & Information. Stanton has thrown six touchdowns and just one interception with Fitzgerald playing, and his yards per attempt rises to 7.7. Fitzgerald caught four of his nine targets for 34 yards in Week 14.

Fantasy Tip: While it's a good thing that Fitzgerald ($5,800) is back playing, he and Stanton ($4,600) are facing a nasty St. Louis Rams defense Thursday night. They aren't the most intriguing options for FantasyScore lineups this week.

Cardinals | Drew Stanton struggles on road

Thu, 11 Dec 2014 16:40:45 -0800

Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton is 1-3 on the road this year, and he's thrown one touchdown and three interceptions in those games, compared to 3-0 with six touchdowns and two interceptions at home. Head coach Bruce Arians thinks the difference is the fact that it's tougher to communicate with the offense on the road with crowd noise. Eight of Stanton's 10 sacks have also come on the road.

Fantasy Tip: Those stats from Stanton and the fact that the St. Louis Rams have posted back-to-back shutouts is reason enough to ignore him at FantasyScore for a price of $4,600. Not to mention, the Cardinals will be on the road tonight.

Cardinals | Drew Stanton probable

Wed, 10 Dec 2014 13:11:29 -0800

Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton (ankle, knee) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Dec. 10, and is probable for Week 15.

Fantasy Tip: This is a great sign that Stanton will be able to go this week, but he should probably be avoided in FantasyScore. There are likely better options available to you this week.

Cardinals | Drew Stanton is limited participant

Tue, 09 Dec 2014 17:49:08 -0800

Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton (ankle, knee) was listed as a limited participant in practice Tuesday, Dec. 9, due to ankle and knee injuries.

Fantasy Tip: It's unclear if Stanton is in jeopardy of missing the Week 14 game against the St. Louis Rams Thursday night, but FantasyScore owners likely want to shy away from him anyway since he'll be facing a team defense which has recorded back-to-back shutouts.

Cardinals | Drew Stanton limited during practice

Mon, 08 Dec 2014 16:14:07 -0800

Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton (ankle, knee) was limited during practice Monday, Dec. 8.

Fantasy Tip: Stanton should be able to play in Week 15 despite the injury, but owners on FantasyScore should be able to find a better option to use at the position.

Cardinals | Drew Stanton to remain the starter

Wed, 03 Dec 2014 09:21:21 -0800

Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton will remain the starting quarterback despite going 10 quarters between offensive touchdowns, according to head coach Bruce Arians. "There's no thought of changing quarterbacks," Arians said. "He's going to take us where we want to go."

Fantasy Tip: Stanton ($4,600) is a cheap FantasyScore option for your QB position, but his upside is so minimal that he's not attractive. And the Kansas City Chiefs have done a pretty good job of holding opposing signal callers in check all year.

Fri, 28 Nov 2014 14:37:55 -0800

Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton (ankle) fully participated in practice Friday, Nov. 28, and is listed as probable for Week 13.

Fantasy Tip: Stanton has thrown two touchdowns and three interceptions in his last two starts and has been a bit inconsistent in his starts this season. Stanton has a price tag of $4,600 on FantasyScore, but owners should be able to find a better option.

Cardinals | Drew Stanton cleared to play

Fri, 10 Oct 2014 19:29:15 -0700

Updating a previous report, Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton (concussion) has passed all his exams and has been cleared to play in the Week 6 game against the Washington Redskins Sunday, Oct. 12.

Fantasy Tip: The Redskins are ranked 10th in the NFL against the pass, allowing just 225.4 yards per game. However, they have also given up 11 touchdown passes, which is third-most in the league. If he gets another start Sunday, he might be a decent value as a QB2 in FantasyScore leagues at just $5000 (or 10 percent of the cap).

Cardinals | Cardinals QB a game-time decision?

Fri, 10 Oct 2014 13:47:09 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (shoulder) was throwing at around 80 percent and some decent velocity Friday, Oct. 10, but head coach Bruce Arians said all three quarterbacks could be active in Week 6 against the Washington Redskins. A decision on who will start might not come until around game time, and it'll depend on health. Both Palmer and QB Drew Stanton (concussion) were limited Friday in practice and are questionable for Sunday, Oct. 12. Stanton has yet to take or pass his concussion test.

Fantasy Tip: It's best to avoid the Cardinals quarterback situation entirely at FantasyScore. If Logan Thomas ends up starting, that hurts all of the Arizona receivers.

Cardinals | Logan Thomas likely to start?

Fri, 10 Oct 2014 09:58:11 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Logan Thomas took all of the first-team repetitions in practice this week and appears poised to start in Week 6 against the Washington Redskins. The Cardinals are still holding out hope that QB Drew Stanton (concussion) will be able to pass his concussion tests before Sunday, Oct. 12, though. Thomas went just 1-for-8 after replacing Stanton last week, and teammates have been impressed with his strong arm. The game plan isn't expected to change with Thomas under center, but they'll make sure not too much is put on his plate. Stanton remains asymptomatic and is hoping to play Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Carson Palmer (shoulder) isn't even in the discussion, so you can basically rule him out. Stanton seems unlikely to play this late in the week. With Thomas starting, make sure to downgrade all of Arizona's receiving options for your daily lineups at FantasyScore. Andre Ellington could be heavily involved again to take pressure off of Thomas.

Cardinals | Drew Stanton limited in practice

Wed, 08 Oct 2014 17:03:59 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton (concussion) was listed as a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Oct. 8.

Fantasy Tip: With fellow quarterback Carson Palmer also limited, it was rookie Logan Thomas taking first-team reps in practice. He might be in line for his first career start if Palmer and Stanton are not cleared to play in Week 6. Palmer and Stanton are risky in FantasyScore, and Thomas is too green to rely upon.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer, Drew Stanton limited

Wed, 08 Oct 2014 13:28:38 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QBs Carson Palmer (shoulder) and Drew Stanton (concussion) will both be limited in practice Wednesday, Oct. 8. Stanton isn't fully cleared from his concussion but can do some throwing.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer and Stanton seem very questionable for Week 6 against the Washington Redskins. Neither would be smart plays at FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Drew Stanton has concussion

Mon, 06 Oct 2014 09:30:16 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton (concussion) suffered a concussion in Week 5 against the Denver Broncos. Stanton will go through the league's concussion protocol this week. The team may have to turn to QB Logan Thomas in Week 6 with QB Carson Palmer (shoulder) suffering from a nerve injury in his right shoulder.

Fantasy Tip: Stanton's chances of returning to face the Washington Redskins aren't good, and the timetable on Palmer's return is unknown. If Thomas has to start in Week 6, you'll need to expect less from all of Arizona's receiving options.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer won't need surgery

Fri, 03 Oct 2014 09:24:43 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (shoulder), who was diagnosed with an axillary nerve contusion in his right shoulder, will not need surgery, since his shoulder is structurally sound. "So, we're just going to continue the same rehab process and continue working at it and trying at it and this thing will come back and I'll be ready to go," Palmer said. Head coach Bruce Arians said Palmer has only thrown at a distance of 30 to 40 yards so far. It doesn't look like Palmer will be healthy enough to be active in Week 5 against the Denver Broncos as the backup to QB Drew Stanton.

Fantasy Tip: Basically, there is no timetable for Palmer to return to the starting job. He's on a week-to-week basis. Without Palmer behind center again this weekend against the Broncos, Stanton will lead the way, and he could be a sleeper QB option at FantasyScore if the Broncos go up big early and force the Cards to throw often.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer not ruled out

Wed, 01 Oct 2014 15:29:10 -0700

Updating a previous report, Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (shoulder) isn't being ruled out for Week 5 against the Denver Broncos by head coach Bruce Arians. Arians said Palmer is doubtful to return to practice Thursday, Oct. 2, but if he can return Friday, Oct. 3, there's a chance he can start against the Broncos. If Palmer doesn't practice Friday, QB Drew Stanton would receive his third straight start. After throwing for two days last week, Palmer's shoulder regressed. The team is treating his injury week-to-week, and the team isn't close to considering putting him on the short-term Reserve/Injured list.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer is a very dicey FantasyScore option this weekend. Drew Stanton could surprise against Denver's secondary if you're looking to save money for other positions.

Cardinals | Drew Stanton will get start

Fri, 19 Sep 2014 12:40:26 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton will be the starting quarterback in the team's Week 3 game, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Fantasy Tip: Stanton will get his second straight start because of Carson Palmer's (shoulder) injury. Stanton costs $4,200 on FantasyScore this week, but owners likely could find a better option to use at quarterback.

Cardinals | Drew Stanton in line to start for Cards

Wed, 17 Sep 2014 16:51:06 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton is in line to start his second straight game against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 3 with QB Carson Palmer (shoulder) sidelined. "It hasn't changed today," head coach Bruce Arians said. "We'll be status quo with Drew as the starter, Logan as the backup and we'll still be waiting on Carson."

Fantasy Tip: There is no timetable for Palmer to return as the starter, so you can forget about him at FantasyScore. Stanton isn't a smart option, either, even at $4,200 (8.4% of cap).

Cardinals | Carson Palmer wasn't close to playing

Mon, 15 Sep 2014 10:35:41 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (shoulder) said he wasn't close to playing in Week 2 against the New York Giants. He described his injury as a nerve in his right shoulder that is in deep sleep. Palmer suffered the injury in Week 1 when he went down on a running play, and he's not sure when he'll be able to return. "They said my shoulder was stretched out and I landed on the nerve, shut the nerve down," Palmer said. "It's just one of those things you've just go to wait and hope it wakes up. There's no, 'it needs 48 hours. It needs six days, it needs 12 days. You just don't know." QB Drew Stanton went 14-for-29 for 167 yards in his absence.

Fantasy Tip: It sounds like Palmer will be questionable to play again in Week 3. Keep tabs on his practice status, but be fully prepared to be without him again.

Sun, 14 Sep 2014 08:34:20 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (shoulder) is officially inactive Sunday, Sept. 14 for Week 2. QB Drew Stanton will start at quarterback.

Cardinals | Logan Thomas drawing rave reviews

Wed, 13 Aug 2014 14:36:51 -0700

Arizona Cardinals rookie QB Logan Thomas has impressed ESPN analyst Ron Jaworski in training camp. "When I plugged the tape in yesterday morning and I saw Logan Thomas, I was shocked. He was fantastic in this game (against the Texans). He's big, strong and he can rip throws," Jaworski said. "... Of all the rookie quarterbacks that I've watched so far -- yes, early in the preseason -- Logan Thomas has been the best that I have seen." Thomas was 11-for-12 for 113 yards and a touchdown against the Houston Texans' backups in the first preseason game. However, head coach Bruce Arians said QB Drew Stanton still has the backup job secure behind QB Carson Palmer.

Fantasy Tip: That's great for Thomas, but unless injuries occur above him on the depth chart, he's unlikely to see any significant playing time in 2014.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer expected to play

Fri, 06 Dec 2013 14:35:05 -0800

Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians expects QB Carson Palmer (elbow) to play in Week 14 against the St. Louis Rams despite dealing with an injury to his right elbow. Arians is calling Palmer a game-time decision and will wait until warm-ups Sunday to make a final decision. Palmer is listed as questionable after being limited in practice Friday, Dec. 6. "I've got to watch him warm up and throw and see how he is," Arians said. "I got all the confidence in the world he ain't missing." QB Drew Stanton would start if Palmer isn't able to go.

Fantasy Tip: Plan to stick with Palmer if you were already heading in that direction, but it doesn't hurt to check back Sunday morning to see if anything has changed. If you have another midrange QB1 type, it would be safer to go in that direction in case something goes wrong with the Cardinals' afternoon game.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer on shaky ground?

Fri, 18 Oct 2013 10:35:47 -0700

Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians seemed to leave the door open to making a change at quarterback after QB Carson Palmer threw two more interceptions against the Seattle Seahawks Thursday, Oct. 17. "It's the reasons for the interceptions. Is it his decision-making?" Arians said. "If it's his decision-making, then we make a change. But the first one to me was obvious pass interference and the safety makes a great play. The second one was just a poor decision. Those are the ones we have to look at."

Fantasy Tip: Despite Palmer's and the offensive line's struggles, the Cardinals don't really have another direction to turn to, unless they want to give Drew Stanton a shot. Palmer gives them the best chance for success this year, but it's not looking pretty and there are no signs for a turnaround near.
