Updating a previous report, Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton (concussion) has passed all his exams and has been cleared to play in the Week 6 game against the Washington Redskins Sunday, Oct. 12.
Fantasy Tip: The Redskins are ranked 10th in the NFL against the pass, allowing just 225.4 yards per game. However, they have also given up 11 touchdown passes, which is third-most in the league. If he gets another start Sunday, he might be a decent value as a QB2 in FantasyScore leagues at just $5000 (or 10 percent of the cap).
Fri, 10 Oct 2014 13:47:09 -0700
Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (shoulder) was throwing at around 80 percent and some decent velocity Friday, Oct. 10, but head coach Bruce Arians said all three quarterbacks could be active in Week 6 against the Washington Redskins. A decision on who will start might not come until around game time, and it'll depend on health. Both Palmer and QB Drew Stanton (concussion) were limited Friday in practice and are questionable for Sunday, Oct. 12. Stanton has yet to take or pass his concussion test.
Fantasy Tip: It's best to avoid the Cardinals quarterback situation entirely at FantasyScore. If Logan Thomas ends up starting, that hurts all of the Arizona receivers.
Fri, 10 Oct 2014 09:58:11 -0700
Arizona Cardinals QB Logan Thomas took all of the first-team repetitions in practice this week and appears poised to start in Week 6 against the Washington Redskins. The Cardinals are still holding out hope that QB Drew Stanton (concussion) will be able to pass his concussion tests before Sunday, Oct. 12, though. Thomas went just 1-for-8 after replacing Stanton last week, and teammates have been impressed with his strong arm. The game plan isn't expected to change with Thomas under center, but they'll make sure not too much is put on his plate. Stanton remains asymptomatic and is hoping to play Sunday.
Fantasy Tip: Carson Palmer (shoulder) isn't even in the discussion, so you can basically rule him out. Stanton seems unlikely to play this late in the week. With Thomas starting, make sure to downgrade all of Arizona's receiving options for your daily lineups at FantasyScore. Andre Ellington could be heavily involved again to take pressure off of Thomas.
Thu, 09 Oct 2014 14:59:05 -0700
Arizona Cardinals DE Calais Campbell (knee), LB Glenn Carson (ankle), OG Paul Fanaika (ankle, calf) and TE Troy Niklas (ankle) did not practice Thursday, Oct. 9. QB Drew Stanton (concussion) was limited. CB Justin Bethel (shoulder) and LB Kenny Demens (back) participated fully.
Wed, 08 Oct 2014 17:03:59 -0700
Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton (concussion) was listed as a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Oct. 8.
Fantasy Tip: With fellow quarterback Carson Palmer also limited, it was rookie Logan Thomas taking first-team reps in practice. He might be in line for his first career start if Palmer and Stanton are not cleared to play in Week 6. Palmer and Stanton are risky in FantasyScore, and Thomas is too green to rely upon.
Wed, 08 Oct 2014 13:28:38 -0700
Arizona Cardinals QBs Carson Palmer (shoulder) and Drew Stanton (concussion) will both be limited in practice Wednesday, Oct. 8. Stanton isn't fully cleared from his concussion but can do some throwing.
Fantasy Tip: Palmer and Stanton seem very questionable for Week 6 against the Washington Redskins. Neither would be smart plays at FantasyScore.
Mon, 06 Oct 2014 09:30:16 -0700
Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton (concussion) suffered a concussion in Week 5 against the Denver Broncos. Stanton will go through the league's concussion protocol this week. The team may have to turn to QB Logan Thomas in Week 6 with QB Carson Palmer (shoulder) suffering from a nerve injury in his right shoulder.
Fantasy Tip: Stanton's chances of returning to face the Washington Redskins aren't good, and the timetable on Palmer's return is unknown. If Thomas has to start in Week 6, you'll need to expect less from all of Arizona's receiving options.
Sun, 05 Oct 2014 15:12:01 -0700
Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton (head) left the Week 5 game against the Denver Broncos due to a head injury, and he is being evaluated for concussion. QB Logan Thomas is warming on the sidelines.
Fri, 03 Oct 2014 13:38:03 -0700
Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton will be the starting quarterback for Week 5.
Fantasy Tip: Stanton will receive his third straight start since Carson Palmer is still injured. Stanton costs $5,000 on FantasyScore, but owners may want to consider spending some more money on a better quarterback.
Fri, 03 Oct 2014 09:24:43 -0700
Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (shoulder), who was diagnosed with an axillary nerve contusion in his right shoulder, will not need surgery, since his shoulder is structurally sound. "So, we're just going to continue the same rehab process and continue working at it and trying at it and this thing will come back and I'll be ready to go," Palmer said. Head coach Bruce Arians said Palmer has only thrown at a distance of 30 to 40 yards so far. It doesn't look like Palmer will be healthy enough to be active in Week 5 against the Denver Broncos as the backup to QB Drew Stanton.
Fantasy Tip: Basically, there is no timetable for Palmer to return to the starting job. He's on a week-to-week basis. Without Palmer behind center again this weekend against the Broncos, Stanton will lead the way, and he could be a sleeper QB option at FantasyScore if the Broncos go up big early and force the Cards to throw often.
Wed, 01 Oct 2014 15:29:10 -0700
Updating a previous report, Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (shoulder) isn't being ruled out for Week 5 against the Denver Broncos by head coach Bruce Arians. Arians said Palmer is doubtful to return to practice Thursday, Oct. 2, but if he can return Friday, Oct. 3, there's a chance he can start against the Broncos. If Palmer doesn't practice Friday, QB Drew Stanton would receive his third straight start. After throwing for two days last week, Palmer's shoulder regressed. The team is treating his injury week-to-week, and the team isn't close to considering putting him on the short-term Reserve/Injured list.
Fantasy Tip: Palmer is a very dicey FantasyScore option this weekend. Drew Stanton could surprise against Denver's secondary if you're looking to save money for other positions.
Fri, 19 Sep 2014 12:40:26 -0700
Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton will be the starting quarterback in the team's Week 3 game, according to head coach Bruce Arians.
Fantasy Tip: Stanton will get his second straight start because of Carson Palmer's (shoulder) injury. Stanton costs $4,200 on FantasyScore this week, but owners likely could find a better option to use at quarterback.
Wed, 17 Sep 2014 16:51:06 -0700
Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton is in line to start his second straight game against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 3 with QB Carson Palmer (shoulder) sidelined. "It hasn't changed today," head coach Bruce Arians said. "We'll be status quo with Drew as the starter, Logan as the backup and we'll still be waiting on Carson."
Fantasy Tip: There is no timetable for Palmer to return as the starter, so you can forget about him at FantasyScore. Stanton isn't a smart option, either, even at $4,200 (8.4% of cap).
Mon, 15 Sep 2014 10:35:41 -0700
Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (shoulder) said he wasn't close to playing in Week 2 against the New York Giants. He described his injury as a nerve in his right shoulder that is in deep sleep. Palmer suffered the injury in Week 1 when he went down on a running play, and he's not sure when he'll be able to return. "They said my shoulder was stretched out and I landed on the nerve, shut the nerve down," Palmer said. "It's just one of those things you've just go to wait and hope it wakes up. There's no, 'it needs 48 hours. It needs six days, it needs 12 days. You just don't know." QB Drew Stanton went 14-for-29 for 167 yards in his absence.
Fantasy Tip: It sounds like Palmer will be questionable to play again in Week 3. Keep tabs on his practice status, but be fully prepared to be without him again.
Sun, 14 Sep 2014 08:34:20 -0700
Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (shoulder) is officially inactive Sunday, Sept. 14 for Week 2. QB Drew Stanton will start at quarterback.
Fantasy Tip: Palmer could be a week-to-week situation. Stanton doesn't have fantasy value at this time. However, he could serve as a bye-week fill-in if Palmer misses considerable time.
Sun, 14 Sep 2014 08:10:38 -0700
Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (shoulder) is out for Week 2 Sunday, Sept. 14. QB Drew Stanton will start in his place.
Fantasy Tip: The offense may rely on RB Andre Ellington (foot) more this week, provided that he plays. Ellington is a solid RB2 at $5,500 (11% of your cap) on FantasyScore this week.
Wed, 13 Aug 2014 14:36:51 -0700
Arizona Cardinals rookie QB Logan Thomas has impressed ESPN analyst Ron Jaworski in training camp. "When I plugged the tape in yesterday morning and I saw Logan Thomas, I was shocked. He was fantastic in this game (against the Texans). He's big, strong and he can rip throws," Jaworski said. "... Of all the rookie quarterbacks that I've watched so far -- yes, early in the preseason -- Logan Thomas has been the best that I have seen." Thomas was 11-for-12 for 113 yards and a touchdown against the Houston Texans' backups in the first preseason game. However, head coach Bruce Arians said QB Drew Stanton still has the backup job secure behind QB Carson Palmer.
Fantasy Tip: That's great for Thomas, but unless injuries occur above him on the depth chart, he's unlikely to see any significant playing time in 2014.
Wed, 06 Aug 2014 17:09:42 -0700
Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton is listed as the primary backup to QB Carson Palmer on the team's first depth chart of the preseason. QB Ryan Lindley is listed as the No. 3 quarterback with QB Logan Thomas on the fourth-team offense.
Sat, 08 Mar 2014 19:44:48 -0800
The Arizona Cardinals have QBs Carson Palmer, Drew Stanton and Ryan Lindley under contract, so it is unlikely they will make a move in the offseason to upgrade. Head coach Bruce Arians has made it clear Palmer is the team's starter next season, and he has confidence in Stanton as the backup.

Fri, 27 Dec 2013 13:54:03 -0800
Arizona Cardinals LB John Abraham (groin), OG Daryn Colledge (back) and S Rashad Johnson (ankle) are questionable for Week 17. DT Darnell Dockett (shoulder), TE Rob Housler (groin), OT Nate Potter (ribs), LB Matt Shaughnessy (groin), QB Drew Stanton (knee) and LB Daryl Washington (ankle) are probable. Abraham, Colledge and Johnson were limited while the others practiced in full.
Thu, 26 Dec 2013 15:31:37 -0800
Arizona Cardinals LB John Abraham (groin) did not participate in practice Thursday, Dec. 26. OG Daryn Colledge (back), LB Daryl Washington (ankle) and FS Rashad Johnson (ankle) was limited during practice. Fri, 06 Dec 2013 14:35:05 -0800
Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians expects QB Carson Palmer (elbow) to play in Week 14 against the St. Louis Rams despite dealing with an injury to his right elbow. Arians is calling Palmer a game-time decision and will wait until warm-ups Sunday to make a final decision. Palmer is listed as questionable after being limited in practice Friday, Dec. 6. "I've got to watch him warm up and throw and see how he is," Arians said. "I got all the confidence in the world he ain't missing." QB Drew Stanton would start if Palmer isn't able to go.
Fantasy Tip: Plan to stick with Palmer if you were already heading in that direction, but it doesn't hurt to check back Sunday morning to see if anything has changed. If you have another midrange QB1 type, it would be safer to go in that direction in case something goes wrong with the Cardinals' afternoon game.
Fri, 18 Oct 2013 10:35:47 -0700
Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians seemed to leave the door open to making a change at quarterback after QB Carson Palmer threw two more interceptions against the Seattle Seahawks Thursday, Oct. 17. "It's the reasons for the interceptions. Is it his decision-making?" Arians said. "If it's his decision-making, then we make a change. But the first one to me was obvious pass interference and the safety makes a great play. The second one was just a poor decision. Those are the ones we have to look at."
Fantasy Tip: Despite Palmer's and the offensive line's struggles, the Cardinals don't really have another direction to turn to, unless they want to give Drew Stanton a shot. Palmer gives them the best chance for success this year, but it's not looking pretty and there are no signs for a turnaround near.

Wed, 20 Mar 2013 09:20:13 -0700
Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said he will be naming a starting quarterback before the start of training camp because he believes it is easier for a team to get behind one quarterback than have a competition. QB Drew Stanton is expected to have an early edge over QBs John Skelton and Brian Hoyer because he worked in Arians' offense this season.
Fantasy Tip: Whichever quarterback is named the starter in Arizona likely will not be very fantasy relevant because they will play behind a shaky offensive line. Stanton, Hoyer and Skelton probably will be considered No. 3 fantasy quarterback if they win the job with the chance to be a low-end No 2 quarterback.
Sat, 16 Mar 2013 11:56:48 -0700
Arizona Cardinals QBs Brian Hoyer and Drew Stanton are expected to compete for the starting quarterback job next season.
Wed, 13 Mar 2013 17:33:22 -0700
The Arizona Cardinals signed QB Drew Stanton Wednesday, March 13, which casts even more doubt on the future of QB Kevin Kolb in Glendale. The team now has four quarterbacks under contract, and they owe Kolb a $2 million bonus if he is on the roster Saturday, March 16.
Fantasy Tip: It appears Kolb's days are numbers in Arizona. He'll likely latch on with another organization, but he will likely find himself as a backup somewhere else. Unless he unexpectedly lands a starting job for 2013, he can mostly be ignored for fantasy purposes.

Updating a previous report, Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians might pursue Indianapolis Colts QB Drew Stanton. He was impressed how Stanton performed in the preseason, and practiced during the regular season. Stanton might have multiple suitors, but Arians might have a leg up because of his familiarity.
