Green Bay Packers impending free-agent WR James Jones will be 32 this offseason, and typically general manager Ted Thompson avoids receivers of that advanced age. However, Jones played 1,205 out of 1,316 snaps (91.6 percent) while leading the team in receiving yardage (971) with 17.8 yards per reception. He is also a favorite of QB Aaron Rodgers.
Fantasy Tip: Jones looked good and was a tremendous last-minute addition for the team, or the receivers unit would have been a real disaster once Jordy Nelson went down. Jones will get paid somewhere next season, but his best years have been in the Green Bay organization and he has looked lost without Rodgers.
Thu, 14 Jan 2016 15:51:24 -0800
Green Bay Packers WR James Jones could be matched up with Arizona Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson in the divisional round Saturday, Jan. 16. Peterson allowed a league-best 45.6 passer rating in coverage. CB Justin Bethel was targeted a league-high 22 times in Weeks 16 and 17, and Packers QB Aaron Rodgers threw at Bethel a season-high 14 times in their first matchup, resulting in seven catches for 75 yards and an interception.
Fantasy Tip: Jones ($6,500, 13.0% of cap) lacks the speed and physicality to win a matchup with Peterson, making him a very tough sell in this one on FantasyScore.
Sun, 10 Jan 2016 18:54:00 -0800
Green Bay Packers WR James Jones posted seven receptions for a team-best 81 yards in the NFC Wild Card Game Sunday, Jan. 10, against the Washington Redskins. He was also targeted a team-high 11 times.
Fantasy Tip: Jones has made big grabs for the Packers all season long, and he really seems to shine in the postseason. He is a solid FantasyScore WR2/3 for next week's tilt against the Arizona Cardinals.
Sun, 03 Jan 2016 22:54:51 -0800
Green Bay Packers WR James Jones posted four receptions for 102 yards in the Week 17 game against the Minnesota Vikings. He was targeted 13 times.
Fantasy Tip: Jones wrapped up the regular season with 880 yards, three 100-yard games and a total of eight touchdowns, re-emerging as a solid low-end WR2 or WR3/flex play in FantasyScore. He faces a difficult matchup against the Washington Redskins next Sunday, but he is still an attractive play.
Sun, 27 Dec 2015 20:37:13 -0800
Green Bay Packers WR James Jones posted five receptions for a team-best 46 yards in the Week 16 game against the Arizona Cardinals. He was targeted 11 times.
Fantasy Tip: Jones fired out of the chute with six touchdowns in his first six games, but managed just two scores over his past nine games. He is nothing more than a WR3 or flex option at this point.
Sun, 20 Dec 2015 17:48:49 -0800
Green Bay Packers WR James Jones finished with six catches for a team-high 82 yards and a touchdown in a 30-20 win over the Oakland Raiders in Week 15.
Fantasy Tip: As he showed against Oakland, Jones will deliver an occasional big game, but he will also deliver his share of duds. He has finished with 30 yards or less in five of his last nine games, and he is a roll-of-the-dice play at FantasyScore.
Fri, 27 Nov 2015 04:58:22 -0800
Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers was just 22-for-42 for 202 yards with a touchdown and interception in the Week 12 loss to the Chicago Bears Thursday, Nov. 26, and he continued to struggle with his chemistry and timing with his receivers. Green Bay's receivers continued to struggle with press coverage and drops. WR James Jones had zero catches on six targets and WR Davante Adams had just two grabs on 11 targets.
Fantasy Tip: The Packers running game and Eddie Lacy looked good for the second straight week, but the passing game continues to struggle. The lack of speed in Rodgers' aerial targets is killing them. Right now, no daily gamer will want to pay up for Rodgers or his receivers.
Sun, 22 Nov 2015 18:14:25 -0800
Green Bay Packers WR James Jones had six catches for 109 yards and a touchdown in a 30-13 win over the Minnesota Vikings in Week 11.
Fantasy Tip: Jones had averaged just 22.3 receiving yards over his previous four games, but he was much more involved against the Vikings. Still, history suggests Jones will remain a touchdown-dependent option at FantasyScore most weeks.
Fri, 20 Nov 2015 13:17:45 -0800
Green Bay Packers WR James Jones (quadriceps) fully participated in practice Friday, Nov. 20, and is listed as probable for the Week 11 game against the Minnesota Vikings. The Packers did not practice Friday, so his practice designation is an estimate.
Fantasy Tip: Jones ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) has caught two passes or fewer in each of the last five games and did not catch any passes last week. Owners may want to look for other options to use in their lineups.
Thu, 19 Nov 2015 15:28:57 -0800
Green Bay Packers RB Eddie Lacy (groin) and WR James Jones (quadriceps) were both full participants in practice Thursday, Nov. 19.
Fantasy Tip: Lacy ($6,500, 13.0% of cap) could finally be moving past his injury, but he'll come off the bench in Week 11 against the Minnesota Vikings. Avoid him on FantasyScore for now. Jones ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) has fallen off of late and doesn't have more than two catches in a game since Oct. 4. With him slowing down, it's best to avoid him on FantasyScore.
Wed, 18 Nov 2015 14:29:53 -0800
Green Bay Packers RB Eddie Lacy (groin) and WR James Jones (quadriceps) participated fully in practice Wednesday, Nov. 18.
Fantasy Tip: Lacy's fantasy value has diminished thanks to lack of production and a subsequent James Starks' supplanting. He's not a viable starting option anymore. Jones and the Packers have a tough matchup with the Minnesota Vikings this week. Use caution if you want to plug Jones into FantasyScore lineups.
Fri, 13 Nov 2015 14:28:52 -0800
Green Bay Packers WR James Jones (quadriceps) was limited in practice for the second straight day Friday, Nov. 13, but is probable for Week 10 against the Detroit Lions.
Fantasy Tip: Expect Aaron Rodgers and company to turn it around through the air against the Lions this weekend, and Jones ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) to reap the benefits. He's a perfectly acceptable value pick on FantasyScore.
Thu, 12 Nov 2015 14:54:38 -0800
Green Bay Packers RB Eddie Lacy (groin) and WR James Jones (quadriceps) were limited in practice Thursday, Nov. 12.
Fantasy Tip: Lacy ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) was limited yesterday, too, but Jones' ($6,300, 12.6%) injury only popped up today, which is never a good sign. His status should be watched closely heading into the weekend. Lacy is not an advisable play on FantasyScore considering his recent struggles and that James Starks is now ahead of him.
Wed, 11 Nov 2015 09:10:25 -0800
The Green Bay Packers have the slowest team in the league when it comes to skill positions in the passing game. The combined average 40-yard dash time of WRs Randall Cobb (4.55 seconds), Davante Adams (4.56), James Jones (4.6) plus TE Richard Rodgers (4.87) ranks as a league-worst 4.65 seconds. One of the biggest reasons the Packers receivers can't get open consistently this year is because of their lack of speed, according to an NFL scout. The loss of WR Jordy Nelson and his 4.51-second 40-yard dash has slowed this offense down. WRs Jeff Janis and Ty Montgomery are much faster, but neither is a top three receiver for the team right now, and Montgomery has missed the last two games with an ankle injury.
Fantasy Tip: As Demovsky notes, the biggest thing hurting this aerial game is the absence of Nelson as one of Aaron Rodgers' ($8,800, 17.6% of cap) favorite go-to targets. Rodgers will stay afloat but shouldn't be considered an elite QB1 week in and week out. This weekend against the Detroit Lions he should at least be able to put up respectable numbers for those that pay up for him on FantasyScore.
Sun, 01 Nov 2015 22:26:18 -0800
Green Bay Packers WR James Jones had one reception for just two yards in the Week 8 game against the Denver Broncos. He was targeted twice.
Fantasy Tip: Jones ($6,700, 13.4% of cap) struggled mightily against a tremendous Denver secondary which was giving up nothing all night. He has been a touchdown machine this season, so just consider this a bump in the road.
Fri, 16 Oct 2015 13:24:16 -0700
Green Bay Packers WRs Randall Cobb (shoulder) and James Jones (hamstring) are both listed as probable for Week 6 against the San Diego Chargers. Cobb practiced in full Friday, Oct. 16, while Jones was a limited participant.
Fantasy Tip: Even if Davante Adams (ankle) returns to face the Chargers this Sunday, both Cobb ($7,600, 15.2% of cap) and Jones ($6,700, 13.4% of cap) should remain heavily involved in the passing attack. Jones is still a fine value pick on FantasyScore.
Thu, 15 Oct 2015 14:38:14 -0700
Green Bay Packers WRs Randall Cobb (shoulder), Davante Adams (ankle) and James Jones (hamstring) were limited in practice Thursday, Oct. 15.
Fantasy Tip: The biggest concern in this group is Cobb ($7,600, 15.2% of cap), because he was actually downgraded from full to limited. If Cobb is limited again or doesn't practice tomorrow, that's an even bigger red flag that will need to be watched before Sunday. If Adams ($4,600, 9.2%) plays, it's hard to gauge how much he'll play or be targeted since he's missed more time than Cobb and Jones ($6,700, 13.4%). Stay tuned to this situation over the next couple of days.
Wed, 14 Oct 2015 14:43:07 -0700
Green Bay Packers WRs Davante Adams (ankle) and James Jones (hamstring) were both limited in practice Wednesday, Oct. 14. It was Adams' first practice since suffering his left ankle injury Sept. 28. QB Aaron Rodgers called Adams the deep threat the offense has been missing, and Rogers didn't throw one pass more than 30 yards downfield in Week 5.
Fantasy Tip: Adams ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) doesn't want to return before he's 100% healthy, so he could play it safe and sit out in Week 6. With Green Bay playing a later game, Adams probably isn't worth the risk in daily games. Jones ($6,700, 13.4% of cap) should be fine and will remain heavily targeted by Rodgers in the offense.
Fri, 09 Oct 2015 13:54:04 -0700
Green Bay Packers WRs Randall Cobb (shoulder) and James Jones (hamstring) were both limited in practice Friday, Oct. 9, but both are listed as probable for Week 5 against the St. Louis Rams.
Fantasy Tip: Cobb ($7,600, 15.2% of cap) of cap remains one of the safer receiver picks on FantasyScore, while Jones ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) should also continue to be a popular daily selection with Davante Adams likely out again.
Thu, 08 Oct 2015 14:11:20 -0700
Green Bay Packers WR James Jones (hamstring) was limited during practice Thursday, Oct. 8.
Fantasy Tip: James ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) has a chance to play in Week 5 against the St. Louis Rams, but owners will know more about his status later in the week. Jones has had a big impact in the Packers offense this season and should be a solid starting option if he is active for the game.
Wed, 07 Oct 2015 15:34:38 -0700
Green Bay Packers WRs Randall Cobb (shoulder) and James Jones (hamstring) were both limited participants in practice Wednesday, Oct. 7.
Fantasy Tip: Both Cobb ($7,600, 15.2% of cap) and Jones ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) should be fine for this weekend against the St. Louis Rams and both receivers have been great for their fantasy owners. With Aaron Rodgers at the top of his game and receiver Davante Adams still hurt, Cobb and Jones should both once again be popular daily picks in Week 5.
Sun, 04 Oct 2015 20:02:08 -0700
Green Bay Packers WR James Jones had five catches for 96 yards in a 17-3 win over the San Francisco 49ers in Week 4.
Fantasy Tip: Jones ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) failed to find the end zone for the first time this year, but he did lead the team in receiving. His knack for scoring touchdowns makes him a viable option at FantasyScore on a weekly basis, and he should be a great play as long as Davante Adams is sidelined.
Fri, 02 Oct 2015 19:07:42 -0700
Green Bay Packers WR James Jones face the San Francisco 49ers in Week 4, and the 49ers currently rank 26th in passing yards allowed.
Fantasy Tip: Jones ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) has looked right at home after joining Green Bay just before the start of the season, and with Davante Adams ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) unlikely to play, he should be a great option at FantasyScore in an expanded role against a friendly matchup.
Mon, 28 Sep 2015 21:52:47 -0700
Green Bay Packers WR James Jones hauled in seven receptions for a team-high 139 yards and a touchdown in the Week 3 game against the Kansas City Chiefs Monday, Sept. 28.
Fantasy Tip: Jones ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) has scored at least one touchdown in each of his three games in his second tour with the Packers. He is a must-have FantasyScore option at this mid-tier price, but if he keeps scoring the bargain won't last for long.
Sun, 20 Sep 2015 22:43:44 -0700
Green Bay Packers WR James Jones had a 29-yard touchdown in the Week 2 game against the Seattle Seahawks, and he had another overturned after review.
Fantasy Tip: Jones ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) has scored three touchdowns in the first two games to make him a solid low-end WR2 or flex FantasyScore option.
Sun, 13 Sep 2015 18:23:03 -0700
Green Bay Packers WR James Jones had four catches for 51 yards and two touchdowns in a 31-23 win over the Chicago Bears Sunday, Sept. 13.
Fantasy Tip: The former Packer was picked up just last week, but he still showed excellent chemistry with Aaron Rodgers ($8,800, 17.6% of cap), especially in the red zone. Jones is worth a waiver claim in seasonal leagues, and he could be worth a look at FantasyScore in Week 2 depending on his price tag.
Tue, 08 Sep 2015 16:41:47 -0700
Green Bay Packers WR James Jones is listed ahead of WR Jeff Janis on the Packers' depth chart.
Fantasy Tip: That didn't take long. Jones' familiarity with Green Bay's offense and his connection with QB Aaron Rodgers obviously give him an advantage and help him make up for lost time. Randall Cobb and Davante Adams will still be the top two options in the passing game, and Ty Montgomery will also have a role, but Jones might be worth a waiver wire pickup.
Mon, 07 Sep 2015 13:29:54 -0700
Free-agent WR James Jones (Giants) officially signed with the Green Bay Packers Monday, Sept. 7.
Fantasy Tip: Jones' role with the Packers is still unclear. Randall Cobb and Davante Adams are still expected to be the top two wide receivers. Stay away from Jones for now.
Sun, 06 Sep 2015 18:24:46 -0700
Free-agent WR James Jones (Giants) has agreed to a deal to return to the Green Bay Packers Sunday, Sept. 6, according to a source. The transaction won't be announced until Monday, Sept. 7, when the Packers make room on their 53-man roster.
Fantasy Tip: Given his extensive history with Green Bay, Jones should be able to integrate back into the offense quickly. He caught 24 touchdowns over his final three seasons with the Packers, and his red-zone production makes him worth a speculative stash.
Sun, 06 Sep 2015 11:36:57 -0700
Free-agent WR James Jones (Giants) has had talks with the Green Bay Packers but no deal is been reached at this point, according to a source.
Fantasy Tip: Jones played for the Packers a few years ago and should be familiar with the offense. He could be used as a No. 3 or 4 receiver if he joins the Packers and could be a waiver wire option if he plays well early in the season.
Sat, 05 Sep 2015 07:27:24 -0700
New York Giants WR James Jones was released Saturday, Sept. 5, according to a source.

Mon, 04 May 2015 05:17:29 -0700
Oakland Raiders WR James Jones was released Sunday, May 3.
Fantasy Tip: Jones had a 73-666-6 season with Oakland last year and is still well worth a WR4 spot in PPR leagues when he lands on a new team.
Mon, 10 Nov 2014 12:03:22 -0800
Oakland Raiders WR James Jones gained just 20 yards on eight catches in Week 10 against the Denver Broncos. That's 2.5 yards per catch.
Fantasy Tip: The good news is that Jones was still productive in point-per-reception leagues. The bad news is that he wasn't productive in non-PPR leagues. While Jones does average about eight targets per game, he doesn't do enough with those targets to warrant being started on a week-to-week basis.
Mon, 04 Aug 2014 20:48:09 -0700
Oakland Raiders WR Andre Holmes was listed ahead of WR James Jones and WR Denarius Moore on the depth chart Monday Aug. 4.
Fantasy Tip: While nothing is set in stone yet, Holmes has been moving up the depth chart throughout the offseason. He is worth a late-round grab in fantasy drafts at this point.
Mon, 04 Aug 2014 15:19:47 -0700
Oakland Raiders WR James Jones is listed behind WR Andre Holmes at one of the wide receiver positions on the team's first depth chart.
Fantasy Tip: There is still a pretty good chance that Jones will be able to win one of the starting receiver jobs before the regular season begins. Jones should be considered as a No. 3 wide receiver in deeper leagues and a No. 4 receiver in shallow leagues.
Mon, 28 Jul 2014 17:24:19 -0700
Oakland Raiders WR James Jones has shown a knack for catching balls in heavy traffic during full team sessions, according to Jerry Mcdonald of The Oakland Tribune.
Fantasy Tip: Jones is expected to be one of the team's starting receivers this year, and if he continues to make plays in traffic, he could carve out a role as a go-to option in the red zone. The question marks surrounding the QB situation in Oakland hurt his value, but he is worth drafting in the later rounds as a bench option at the WR spot.
Thu, 19 Jun 2014 16:56:47 -0700
Oakland Raiders WR James Jones (shoulder) suffered a sprained shoulder during practice Tuesday, June 17, but head coach Dennis Allen said he should be fine for training camp.

Sat, 24 May 2014 20:39:28 -0700
Oakland Raiders WR Brice Butler might have seen his chances at cracking the 53-man roster placed in serious jeopardy when the team brought in WR Greg Little. The team is likely to keep six receivers, with WRs James Jones, Denarius Moore, Rod Streater, Andre Holmes and Little as the top five.
Fantasy Tip: Butler's biggest competition for the No. 5 receiver job, and a potential job, is Little and Noel Grigsby. Even if he would crack the 53-man, his fantasy value is still negligible.
Mon, 17 Mar 2014 16:27:41 -0700
Oakland Raiders WR James Jones will make $11.3 million as part of his three-year deal with the team.
Mon, 17 Mar 2014 14:46:58 -0700
The Oakland Raiders have agreed to terms with free-agent WR James Jones (Packers) on a three-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Fantasy Tip: Jones probably will be one of the starting receivers for the team next season, but the question at quarterback likely will hurt his value. Owners should consider Jones a No. 3 or No. 4 wide receiver entering drafts next season.
