"What also goes with that role is stepping in if he can't go, so I knew all that coming in. Some guys might feel differently at the stage I am in my career or whatever. Titans | Want to involve Jared Cook more

Thu, 01 Nov 2012 06:15:42 -0700

Tennessee Titans QB Matt Hasselbeck said he plans to involve TE Jared Cook in the offense more. Cook, who has 28 receptions for 373 yards this season, reportedly requested a trade earlier in the week, presumably disappointed over his lack of playing time. Cook played only 42 percent of the offensive snaps in Week 8, and he's played less than 50 percent of the snaps in six of the eight games so far this season. He's been targeted an average of five times per game. "I know how I feel about him, and I know how coaches feel about him," Hasselbeck said. "He is a great player. If anything, I feel like I should throw him the ball more. He makes plays for us and I like him a lot. He is definitely a big part of what we are doing."

Titans | Jake Locker may need serious surgery

Tue, 02 Oct 2012 10:51:23 -0700

Tennessee Titans QB Jake Locker (shoulder) might miss multiple games after separating his non-throwing shoulder for the second time this year in Week 4. The team's medical staff popped his shoulder back into place after the injury, and Locker may need season-ending surgery to fix the issue. Dr. Mike Pagnani said once a player has that sort of injury, it will keep recurring. "Eventually, the pain will go away," Pagnani said. "The risk is, it's going to happen again and it's probably just a matter of time before it does. He is going to go out there and he is going to get hit wrong and it's going to pop out again. And he'll go through the same scenario where they pop it back in, and he's going to be real sore for a week or two until he ultimately gets it fixed." Surgery seems inevitable at this point, and there would be a six-month recovery time. The team has yet to decide if Locker will undergo surgery. QB Matt Hasselbeck will take over as the starter this week against the Minnesota Vikings.

"If we still feel he can be productive, run around and do the things he needs to do to play the position, then we're going to be fine with him playing," head coach Mike Munchak said. "If for some reason he's not able to do those things, then we won't put him in a position that he shouldn't be in."
