Rays | TB resting several regulars Saturday

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 11:20:39 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Corey Dickerson, 1B Logan Morrison and SS Brad Miller are not in the starting lineup against Toronto Blue Jays SP J.A. Happ Saturday, April 30. 1B/OF Steve Pearce will bat cleanup and play first base, OF Desmond Jennings is batting sixth and playing left field and INF Tim Beckham is playing shortstop and batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Dickerson, Morrison and Miller are not playing Saturday because the Rays are facing a left-handed pitcher. Pearce is batting .282 with a home run and five RBI in 39 at-bats this season and is worthy of consideration as a value play at first base for daily fantasy lineups but Jennings and Beckham are not recommended options today.

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 12:41:23 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 1B Logan Morrison is not in the starting lineup against Baltimore Orioles SP Kevin Gausman Monday, April 25. OF Steve Pearce will start at first base and is batting second in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Pearce has seen solid playing time over the last week and has at least one hit in four of his last five games. Pearce could be a sleeper option for some owners in daily fantasy leagues.

Rays | Steven Souza will not start

Sat, 23 Apr 2016 08:01:29 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Steven Souza is not in the starting lineup against New York Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka Saturday, April 23. OF Steve Pearce will start at third base and is batting seventh in the lineup. 3B Evan Longoria will serve as the designated hitter, while OF Corey Dickerson will start in right field.

Fantasy Tip: Pearce is receiving his third straight start and has at least one hit in seven of his last eight games. Pearce could be a cheap sleeper option in some daily fantasy leagues but is not a must-start option.

Rays | Three Rays regulars out

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 13:56:12 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Kevin Kiermaier, 1B Logan Morrison and SS Brad Miller are not in the starting lineup Friday, April 22. OF Brandon Guyer is in center field and hitting second, 1B Steve Pearce is starting at first and hitting sixth, and SS Tim Beckham is at the 6 and batting eighth against New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia.

Fantasy Tip: Sabathis doesn't instill fear in the opposition these days with decreased velocity and dominance. Guyer doesn't have much power but can be a rat on the basepaths as a deep daily sleeper. Pearce is another deep sleeper worth taking a look at, but he had only a .196 average and four home runs against lefties in 2015. Beckham is a desperation gamble.

Rays | Three Rays have day off

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 07:52:22 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Corey Dickerson, 1B Logan Morrison and SS Brad Miller are out of the lineup Thursday, April 21. OF Brandon Guyer is hitting second, 1B Steve Pearce is cleaning up and SS Tim Beckham is hitting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Pearce is the only one of the three worth daily consideration. He faces David Price, but he could be worth a low-end start.

Rays | Three Tampa regulars out

Fri, 15 Apr 2016 13:26:03 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Corey Dickerson, 1B Logan Morrison and SS Brad Miller are not in the starting lineup against Chicago White Sox left-handed SP Chris Sale Friday, April 15. OF Steven Souza moves to designated hitter, OF Brandon Guyer is in right field and hitting second, 1B Steve Pearce is at first and hitting cleanup and SS Tim Beckham is starting at shortstop and batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Morrison and Miller are both off to terrible starts, and you should consider benching them until they turn it around in traditional formats. Guyer and Pearce have favorable lineups spots tonight but are tough to rely on in daily formats while facing a tough lefty in Sale. Beckham should be ignored in most fantasy formats.

Rays | Corey Dickerson out of lineup

Wed, 06 Apr 2016 07:29:31 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Corey Dickerson is out of the lineup Wednesday, April 6, against Toronto Blue Jays left-handed SP J.A. Happ. OF Brandon Guyer is hitting second in his place. 1B Steve Pearce is hitting cleanup in place of 1B Logan Morrison, and SS Tim Beckham draws a spot start hitting eighth for SS Brad Miller.

Fantasy Tip: If Beckham's name looks familiar, it's because it was one of the team's top prospects a few years ago that has yet to put it all together. He's a watch list player in AL-only leagues. Pearce is in a spot to perform if his DFS price is right.

Rays | Steve Pearce to hit Sunday

Sun, 13 Mar 2016 07:39:48 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 1B/OF Steve Pearce (calf) is expected to take batting practice Sunday, March 13, and said that his calf was feeling much better.

Fantasy Tip: Over his last two seasons, Pearce has 36 home runs in 708 at-bats, after hitting just 17 homers through the first 667 at-bats of his MLB career. He's not likely to hit for a high average but he's an underrated source of power who should be available in the later middle rounds for AL-only and deep mixed leagues.

Rays | Steve Pearce has calf injury

Fri, 11 Mar 2016 17:59:52 -0800

Tampa Bay Rays 1B/OF Steve Pearce (calf) will be sidelined for several days due to tightness in his calf, according to manager Kevin Cash.

Fantasy Tip: Pearce will see the bulk of his playing time this season at first base and designated hitter, with an occasional outfield appearance versus left-handed pitching. He hit .218 with 15 home runs and 40 RBIs in 325 at-bats last season and should be of interest to owners in AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues.

Thu, 28 Jan 2016 18:31:44 -0800

Updating previous reports, Tampa Bay Rays 1B/OF Steve Pearce's one-year contract is worth $4.75 million. The deal also includes performance bonuses based on the number of plate appearances reached. Pearce will receive $125,000 for reaching 400 and 425 plate appearances and $250,000 for 500, 525, 550 and 575 plate appearances. If he is traded, he will receive a one-time bonus worth $250,000.

Fantasy Tip: Pearce is expected to split time between first base and designated hitter, with an occasional start in the outfield against left-handed pitching. He hit .218 with 15 home runs and 40 RBIs in 325 at-bats for the Orioles in 2015 and could be a decent buy-low option from a fantasy standpoint.
