Orioles | Chris Davis playing first base

Sun, 30 Aug 2015 11:35:22 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 1B Chris Davis will bat cleanup and play first base against Texas Rangers SP Derek Holland Sunday, Aug. 30. INF/OF Steve Pearce, who started at first base Saturday, Aug. 29, will play left field and bat second Sunday, with OF Gerardo Parra receiving the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Davis ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) is just 3-for-27 over the last seven days and is hitless in seven career at-bats against Holland, so using him in FantasyScore this afternoon would not be recommended. Pearce ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) is 5-for-18 with a pair of home runs during the same stretch and can be viewed as a source of productive cap relief.

Orioles | Steve Pearce batting sixth vs. Royals

Tue, 25 Aug 2015 15:17:56 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 2B Steve Pearce is starting in left field and batting sixth against Kansas City Royals SP Danny Duffy Tuesday, Aug. 25. OF Henry Urrutia is not in the starting lineup Tuesday.

Fantasy Tip: Pearce ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) has a single pinch-hit appearance since going on the disabled list with an oblique injury Saturday, July 18. You'll likely want to let him shake off some rust before trusting him in any fantasy format, but especially at FantasyScore. Urrutia ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) is 9-for-33 with three runs and six RBI through his first nine games. He'll receive occasional duty in the outfield as long as he is handling the bat alright, so he warrants a roster spot in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues.

Orioles | J.J. Hardy put on DL

Mon, 24 Aug 2015 09:28:49 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SS J.J. Hardy (groin) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a groin strain Monday, Aug. 24, and OF Steve Pearce (oblique) was activated from the DL in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: With Hardy sidelined, Ryan Flaherty ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is likely to fill in at the 6. He's worth a look in deep mixed leagues for infield depth, but he won't give you much else. Hardy was hitting only .222 (74-for-333) with seven home runs and 32 RBI, so he should only be retained in AL-only leagues.

Orioles | Steve Pearce takes live BP

Tue, 18 Aug 2015 21:42:48 -0700

Baltimore Orioles OF Steve Pearce (oblique) took swings in live batting practice at the team's spring facility in Florida.

Fantasy Tip: Pearce ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) is on the road back, but FantasyScore players need to avoid him until he can officially return and prove his health in a full game or two without any setbacks.

Orioles | Steve Pearce to be out a while?

Fri, 24 Jul 2015 20:18:13 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 2B Steve Pearce (oblique) is iffy to come to off the 15-day disabled list when he is eligible early next month, manager Buck Showalter said Friday, July 24.

Fantasy Tip: Pearce ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) has battled injuries all year and is hitting just .224. It sounds like his latest injury could linger well into August, so it might be time to cut ties with Pearce in seasonal leagues if you haven't already done so.

Orioles | Steve Pearce placed on DL

Wed, 22 Jul 2015 19:31:24 -0700

The Baltimore Orioles placed 2B Steve Pearce (oblique) on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, July 22, due to a strained left oblique. The move is retroactive to July 19.

Fantasy Tip: Pearce has dealt with a number of injuries lately, so a rest period should get him right. Ryan Flaherty ($1,800; or 3.6% of cap) and Chris Parmelee ($3,300; or 6.6% of cap) might pick up a few more at-bats as a result of this move.

Orioles | Steve Pearce hitting second

Sat, 18 Jul 2015 13:05:04 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 2B Steve Pearce is hitting second in the order Saturday, July 18, against the Detroit Tigers and LHP David Price. 2B Jimmy Paredes is out of the starting lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Pearce ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) has gone 2-for-11 over his last three starts, with one triple and one home run. Pearce is hitting .267 against lefties for the season, and he can be used as a contrarian play on FantasyScore with the difficult matchup against Price.

Orioles | Chris Davis staying in RF?

Thu, 16 Jul 2015 10:20:36 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 1B Chris Davis has made 14 starts in right field this season, and he figures to start there again when the second half of the season starts Friday, July 17, against the Detroit Tigers. OFs Chris Parmelee and Steve Pearce have been playing first base. Davis isn't a stranger to the position, as he played 30 games in right field in 2012.

Fantasy Tip: The main reason for moving Davis ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) was done to keep both Parmelee and Jimmy Paredes in the lineup. Davis' owners can't complain, as he has added another position for eligibility, and in some leagues he's also eligible at third base. Davis remains an excellent source of power in all fantasy formats, but he won't do you any favors in batting average thanks to a poor contact rate.

Orioles | Steve Pearce on the trade block?

Tue, 14 Jul 2015 20:12:21 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 2B Steve Pearce might be traded in either July or August, although the team might not fetch much in return.

Fantasy Tip: Pearce makes an occasional start with the O's, but he probably could use a change of scenery if he wants regular playing time. FantasyScore players will find him to be a salary saver when he does start, but double-check those lineups daily to make sure he is included.

Orioles | David Lough starting in left field

Sun, 12 Jul 2015 07:56:49 -0700

Baltimore Orioles OF David Lough is starting in left field and batting eighth against Washington Nationals SP Max Scherzer Sunday, July 12. OF Nolan Reimold and 2B Steve Pearce are not in the starting lineup Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Lough ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is an ill-advised start at FantasyScore facing Scherzer Sunday.
