Rays | Steve Pearce right back in the lineup

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 15:46:31 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 1B Steve Pearce (hamstring) is starting at first base and batting fourth against Oakland Athletics SP Sean Manaea Friday, July 22.

Fantasy Tip: Pearce rested his right hamstring as a precaution to avoid aggravating the injury Thursday, July 21, so it's good to see him right back in the lineup Friday. Pearce is 3-for-9 with two runs, a home run and four RBI since returning from the disabled list. He's picked up right where he left off before the injury, albeit while taking advantage of hitter-friendly Coors Field.

Rays | Steve Pearce could be dealt

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 07:55:29 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 2B Steve Pearce has received interest on the trade market, and there's a decent chance he is dealt before the trade deadline. The San Francisco Giants and Cleveland Indians are fits.

Fantasy Tip: Pearce has a .322-10-29 line in 183 at-bats, and he could be dealt into a part-time role. He should remain at least a single-universe option in fantasy.

Rays | Steve Pearce out as precaution

Thu, 21 Jul 2016 16:43:53 -0700

Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Rays 1B Steve Pearce (hamstring) said he's out of the starting lineup as a precaution Thursday, July 21, after he was "feeling" his hamstring due to fatigue. He expects to start Friday, July 22.

Fantasy Tip: Pearce just returned from a hamstring injury, so the Rays are being cautious and easing him back into action. Because he was producing a nice .322/.393/.552 slash line with 10 homers and 29 RBI, he's expected to play most of the time at first base. That'll hurt Logan Morrison the most.

Rays | Steve Pearce sitting out vs. A's

Thu, 21 Jul 2016 15:34:21 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 1B Steve Pearce is not in the starting lineup Thursday, July 21. SS Tim Beckham is starting at first base and is batting eighth against Oakland Athletics SP Sonny Gray.

Fantasy Tip: Pearce just came off the DL Tuesday, so the Rays are likely easing him back in. With a .322/.393/.552 slash line, 10 homers and 29 RBI, he plays in most deep mixed and AL leagues as long as he's playing regularly. Beckham had five hits last night to continue his hot July (.462), but he has just three homers and 10 RBI on the year and remains a desperation flier in DFS.

Rays | Steve Pearce homers in return

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 23:34:47 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 1B Steve Pearce went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run against the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday, July 19. Pearce hadn't played in the majors since June 20 due to a hamstring injury.

Fantasy Tip: Pearce has been a rare bright spot for Tampa Bay's offense this year, putting together a .324-10-27 line in 179 at-bats. He can cover multiple positions on your fantasy squad and is a good addition in most leagues.

Rays | Logan Morrison out Tuesday

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 14:24:40 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 1B Logan Morrison will not start Tuesday, July 19, against the Colorado Rockies. 1B Steve Pearce is in the lineup and will hit fifth against Rockies SP Tyler Chatwood.

Fantasy Tip: Morrison (.232-10-31) is the backup to Pearce, who was hitting .322-9-25 before a hamstring issue sidelined him on June 20. Look for Pearce to get the bulk of the starts moving forward, which could cost Morrison some fantasy value. Still, with 10 home runs to his credit, don't be surprised if the team finds ways to get Morrison some at-bats.

Rays | Nick Franklin headed to minors

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 01:03:19 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 2B Nick Franklin was sent to Class AAA Durham on Monday, July 19, to make room for 1B Steve Pearce on the active roster.

Fantasy Tip: This appears to be a roster crunch more than anything else. It's also a surprise, because Franklin had a robust .313 batting average and .458 slugging percentage. Don't be surprised if Franklin is called back up sooner rather than later, but in the meantime he plays every day in the minors. Stash Franklin away in your leagues.

Rays | Steve Pearce to return Tuesday

Mon, 18 Jul 2016 15:33:49 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 1B Steve Pearce (hamstring) is expected to be activated from the disabled list Tuesday, July 19.

Fantasy Tip: Pearce was playing very well in an everyday role before his injury, slashing .322/.393/.540 with nine home runs and 25 RBI, so he should receive regular at-bats upon his return. That'll probably hurt Logan Morrison and/or Corey Dickerson the most. Check to see if Pearce is available in your league and add him in most mixed leagues.

Rays | Steve Pearce rehab update

Fri, 15 Jul 2016 19:53:48 -0700

Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Rays INF Steve Pearce (hamstring) has started a rehab assignment with Class AAA Charlotte.

Fantasy Tip: Pearce was batting .322 with nine home runs and 25 RBI through 51 games prior to landing on the disabled list and should be rostered in most fantasy formats. He's likely to split time at first base with Logan Morrison when he returns, along with an occasional start at second base or designated hitter.

Rays | Steve Pearce could start rehab

Thu, 14 Jul 2016 14:39:57 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 1B Steve Pearce (hamstring) could begin a rehab assignment this weekend. He was taking groundballs at first base during a workout Thursday, July 14.

Fantasy Tip: Pearce hasn't played in a game for the Rays since June 20, but it looks like he's getting close to his return. Having registered an impressive .322/.393/.540 line to go with nine homers and 29 RBI in 51 games, Pearce will have potential to help some fantasy teams down the stretch when he's ready to rejoin the club. Give him a look if he's out there.
