Updating a previous report, Cincinnati Reds SP Mat Latos (elbow) will not need surgery for an elbow issue. Latos is suffering from a flexor mass strain in his right arm, but there was nothing wrong with the ulnar collateral ligament. Latos is expected to begin throwing again in 10-14 days. "I have some swelling in the flexor mass. It's not ideal but it's not the worst thing in the world," Latos said. "Everything is fine with the UCL. The exact words from Kremchek were 'the UCL looks strong,' from the MRI. But there is inflammation and fluid."
Fantasy Tip: The good news is that Latos does not need surgery. It will probably be early May before Latos returns to the rotation assuming there are no setbacks.

Cincinnati Reds SP Mat Latos (elbow) still is suffering from some tenderness in the flexor mass of his right elbow after throwing a bullpen Friday, April 11, and he'll undergo more treatment before throwing again.
Fantasy Tip: Latos' knee isn't the issue anymore, but now he can't seem to get past his elbow problems. There's no timetable for when he'll be back on a mound or pitching in rehab games, so we don't expect him back until sometime in May.

Cincinnati Reds SP Mat Latos (knee, elbow) was scratched from his rehab start with Triple-A Louisville Tuesday, April 8, due to elbow inflammation. He will be backed up a couple of days. He could play catch as soon as Tuesday, and manager Bryan Price said the injury isn't serious.
Fantasy Tip: This is obviously a setback for Latos returning to the starting rotation, especially when he had surgery on his right elbow in the offseason. The Reds will be conservative with Latos, meaning he won't be back until at least early in May.

Cincinnati Reds SP Mat Latos (knee) will begin the season on the disabled list and is slated to return either April 13 against the Tampa Bay Rays or April 14 against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Fantasy Tip: Latos wasn't expected to be ready for the first few games of the season, but this DL stint should not affect his value too much. He still rates as a weak No. 1 fantasy starter or a strong No. 2.
