The Seattle Mariners are not ready to trade SP Taijuan Walker. The Tampa Bay Rays are believed to have asked for Walker in a package that would include SP David Price. "We think the guy has the ability to be a front-line starter," Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik said. "I expect Taijuan to be with us."

The Washington Nationals want to trade for an elite starting pitcher, and Detroit Tigers SP Max Scherzer could be at the top of their list, as well as Tampa Bay Rays SP David Price. Scherzer was general manager Mike Rizzo's last first-round pick as the Arizona Diamondbacks scouting director in 2006. The price in prospects for Scherzer will be lower than it is for Price. The Nationals also have a strong relationship with Scherzer's agent, Scott Boras. According to sources, the Tigers are in the "listening, not shopping" mode on Scherzer.

However, they'll likely have to part with SP Jesse Biddle in any package, and the Rays may also ask for OF Domonic Brown. General manager Ruben Amaro Jr. is unlikely to try and make a huge splash, though.

Tampa Bay Rays SP David Price thinks he will be traded this offseason. "It's not disappointing or anything like that," Price said. "This is a place I love to be. My teammates and everyone in the organization knows that. It's part of baseball and it's something I've seen go on, it's kind of something I somewhat prepared myself for." Price will be eligible for arbitration in the offseason, and his salary could move from $10 million to $13 million.
