Red Sox | David Price hit hard by Rangers

Fri, 24 Jun 2016 22:35:17 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP David Price gave up six runs on 12 hits in just 2 1/3 innings against the Texas Rangers on Friday, June 24.

Fantasy Tip: After eight consecutive quality starts, Price just didn't have it on Friday night, struggling from the get go in Texas. It's a setback for Price, whose ERA had dropped to 4.24 from 6.75 during the preceding eight-game stretch, but for now we'll chalk it up as an anomaly. Make sure Price is active for his next start.

Red Sox | David Price sharp in win

Sun, 19 Jun 2016 16:19:54 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP David Price allowed one run on eight hits while striking out seven in a win over the Seattle Mariners Sunday, June 19.

Fantasy Tip: Price continues to rebound from an awful start, and you should be able to rely on him as a fantasy ace the rest of the way.

Red Sox | David Price fans 11 in loss

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 20:05:43 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP David Price allowed three earned runs, five hits and no walks with 11 strikeouts over eight innings in a loss Tuesday, June 14, against the Baltimore Orioles. He threw 75 of his 105 pitches for strikes.

Fantasy Tip: Price has 34 strikeouts over his past four starts at Fenway Park. He hasn't won in five starts dating back to May 24, but he remains a top-notch fantasy option in all formats. Price has thrown seven or more innings in three straight outings, and five of his past six starts.

Red Sox | David Price drops second straight

Wed, 08 Jun 2016 23:28:12 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP David Price allowed just three hits in eight innings against the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday, June 8, but two of them were solo home runs. Boston lost, 2-1.

Fantasy Tip: That's back-to-back hard-luck losses for Price, who now sits at 7-3 on the year after the normally potent BoSox lineup gave him only one run to work with. On the positive side, it was the lefty's sixth straight quality start and first complete game since June 12, 2015. Price seems to have put his early-season struggles behind him and is once again a must-start in all leagues.

Red Sox | David Price suffers second loss

Fri, 03 Jun 2016 20:47:49 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP David Price allowed three runs - two earned - and six hits with four walks and five strikeouts in a loss Friday, June 3, against the Toronto Blue Jays, just his second loss in nine decisions this season.

Fantasy Tip: Despite the loss Price has been much better than the first month of the season, posting his fifth consecutive quality start dating back to May 7. He remains a must-start in all fantasy formats.

Red Sox | David Price moves to 7-1

Tue, 24 May 2016 20:40:41 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP David Price upped his record to 7-1 after defeating the Colorado Rockies Tuesday, May 24. He worked seven solid innings, allowing three runs on five hits and one walk. He also recorded six strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: While his owners probably aren't happy with his 5.34 ERA, Price is starting to look like his old consistent self again, as this was his third straight quality start after contributing only three such outings in his first seven assignments of the season. Now having a 76-to-15 K/BB ratio in 62 1/3 innings, it seems inevitable that Price will bring his ERA down considerably, and he remains an elite option in all leagues.

Rockies | Ryan Raburn in lineup Tuesday

Tue, 24 May 2016 14:25:16 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Ryan Raburn is in the starting lineup Tuesday, May 24, against the Boston Red Sox as a designated hitter. Raburn will hit sixth against Red Sox SP David Price. His on-base plus slugging number is 1.061 against left-handed pitching.

Fantasy Tip: Raburn is hitting .300-5-12 overall, and his other stats rise against left-handed pitching. He should be given strong fantasy consideration against Price Tuesday night for that reason.

Rockies | Tony Wolters not in Tuesday lineup

Tue, 24 May 2016 13:19:17 -0700

Colorado Rockies C Tony Wolters is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, May 24, against the Boston Red Sox. C Dustin Garneau is batting eighth against Red Sox SP David Price.

Fantasy Tip: Wolters is out mainly due to the left vs. left matchup, although Wolters and Garneau are in a platoon situation and neither one catches a majority of games. Garneau doesn't have much fantasy value, so you should look elsewhere for a catcher.

Red Sox | David Price allowing hard contact

Fri, 20 May 2016 16:56:54 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP David Price has a normal strikeout rate and has given up just four home runs to go along with a FIP of 2.55. However, a 29.1% line-drive rate is troubling, and he has become a bit vulnerable to having balls squared up against him, according to FanGraphs' Tony Blengino. Of his fly balls allowed this year, 16.7% have exceeded an exit velocity of 105 mph. Just 7.0% of all MLB fly balls have been hit at 105 mph or harder this year. After several nice outings, he's lowered his ERA to 5.53.

Fantasy Tip: Price was struggling with some mechanical problems, and he has seemed to fix them in his last couple of starts. That could explain much of the hard contact he allowed in the first month. More positive regression is likely in store, so if you want to buy low, that time is quickly passing. Price's elite 11.4 K/9 rate should convince his owners to sit tight and enjoy better days ahead.

Red Sox | David Price has solid outing

Wed, 18 May 2016 22:44:23 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP David Price allowed two runs on five hits in 7 1/3 innings in the second game of a doubleheader against the Kansas City Royals Wednesday, May 18, to pick up his sixth win of the season. He struck out five batters and walked one during the game.

Fantasy Tip: Price has allowed only three runs in his last two starts and has won four of his last five starts. Price is scheduled to face the Colorado Rockies in his next start and is an attractive option in most leagues.
