Orioles | Matt Wieters could catch in a pinch

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 15:01:13 -0700

Updating a previous report, Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters (foot) could catch if needed Friday, July 22.

Fantasy Tip: This should line Wieters up to return soon. He's struggling to string together a solid run and sits with a mediocre 25 runs, nine home runs, 38 RBI and a .250/.306/.403 slash line. There's upside, but currently, Wieters isn't a must-start backstop in single-catcher leagues.

Orioles | Still no Matt Wieters

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 12:58:43 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters (foot) is not in the starting lineup Friday, July 22. C Caleb Joseph is starting behind the plate and batting eighth against Cleveland Indians SP Trevor Bauer Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Wieters hasn't played since Monday, July 18, and he's struggled of late with a 1-for-23 run at the plate through his past eight games. Wieters isn't a must-own backstop in single-catcher formats. Joseph owns a .170/.223/.193 slash line this season and offers no fantasy upside in his current form.

Baltimore Orioles OF Adam Jones (back) and C Matt Wieters (foot) are out of the lineup Thursday, July 21. C Caleb Joseph and OF Julio Borbon are hitting eighth and ninth, respectively.

Fantasy Tip: Neither Joseph, nor Borbon, offer much to love for a basement play against CC Sabathia.

Orioles | Matt Wieters still out with foot injury

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 14:09:51 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters (foot) is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, July 20. C Caleb Joseph is starting behind the plate and batting ninth against New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Wieters was struggling before the injury with a 1-for-23 run at the plate over eight games. He's barely hanging onto viability as a starting catcher in mixed leagues and is likely best left to cavernous mixed, two-catcher and AL-only leagues at this point. Joseph isn't on the fantasy radar at this point considering his .160/.218/.185 slash line.

Orioles | Matt Wieters day-to-day

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 12:31:37 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters (foot) said the X-rays on his foot came back clean, and he's listed as day-to-day.

Fantasy Tip: Wieters will remain out of the lineup Tuesday night, but he could return as soon as Wednesday. The All-Star catcher is batting .250 with nine home runs and 38 RBI for the first-place Orioles and is a strong fantasy catching option in all formats.

Orioles | Matt Wieters, Nolan Reimold resting

Sun, 17 Jul 2016 08:32:12 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters and OF Nolan Reimold are not in the starting lineup against Tampa Bay Rays SP Jake Odorizzi Sunday, July 17. INF Pedro Alvarez will bat sixth and serve as the designated hitter, while C Caleb Joseph will bat ninth and start behind the plate.

Fantasy Tip: Alvarez is 8-for-16 with three doubles and a home run this month and is 2-for-5 in his career versus Odorizzi, making him a decent option for DFS. Joseph is batting just .160 this season and is 1-for-10 against the right-hander, so he should be avoided in all formats.

Orioles | Matt Wieters OK following illness

Fri, 15 Jul 2016 19:32:04 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters (illness) went 0-for-4 with an RBI against the Tampa Bay Rays Friday, July 15. According to manager Buck Showalter, he suffered food poisoning during his trip to the All-Star Game but felt well enough to play Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Wieters should be viewed as a viable catching option in all fantasy formats. Through 65 games this season, he is batting .253 with nine home runs and 38 RBI in 229 at-bats.

Orioles | Matt Wieters, Pedro Alvarez out Saturday

Sat, 09 Jul 2016 11:49:37 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters and DH Pedro Alvarez are not in the starting lineup against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Nick Tropeano Saturday, July 9. OF Joey Rickard will bat eighth and play right field, with C Caleb Joseph starting behind the plate and batting ninth. OF Mark Trumbo will serve as the designated hitter.

Fantasy Tip: Rickard is 4-for-9 with a double and two RBI at the plate this month and is worth considering as a productive source of cap relief in DFS Saturday. On the other hand, Joseph is hitting just .164 with zero RBI through 73 at-bats and is not a recommended fantasy option.
