Orioles | Matt Wieters feeling good

Wed, 27 May 2015 16:39:43 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters (elbow) said he felt really good after going 2-for-4 in his first rehab game with Class AA Bowie Tuesday, May 26. Wieters also threw out a runner in the game. He'll catch again for Bowie Thursday, May 28, and Saturday, May 30, before the team decides where he'll continue his rehab. Barring a setback, Wieters is expected to return to the Orioles sometime late next week. However, it'll be a while before he'll be ready to catch on back-to-back days.

Fantasy Tip: Wieters ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) could be an immediate boost to fantasy teams, especially since his injury doesn't affect his hitting much at all. He could also be a great value play upon his return at FantasyScore. Caleb Joseph ($3,900, 7.8% of cap), who has filled in nicely with Wieters out, could continue to be serviceable in your daily lineups on the days when Wieters is resting.

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters (elbow, hamstring) started a rehab assignment with Class AA Bowie Tuesday, May 26, and went 2-for-4 at the plate.

Fantasy Tip: Wieters ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) likely will need several rehab games before he is able to return to the Orioles. Owners on FantasyScore should see how he plays in a few games when he returns before considering him an option in their lineups.

Orioles | Matt Wieters to rehab next Tuesday

Fri, 22 May 2015 14:51:50 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters (hamstring, elbow) will work out with the team this weekend while making throws and catching bullpens and will then head out on a rehab assignment with Class AA Bowie Tuesday, May 26. He thinks it's still realistic for him to come off the disabled list June 4, when eligible. His arm continues to get stronger, but he hasn't caught in consecutive games yet. He will play every other day at Bowie, and he's been swinging daily without pain.

Fantasy Tip: Wieters ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) shouldn't be affected as much swinging the bat when he's back in the majors, and he could immediately become one of the better FantasyScore catchers when he's starting on a regular basis. Caleb Joseph ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has held down the fort nicely (.260-3-14), but he'll likely go back to a backup role when Wieters is ready.

Orioles | Matt Wieters dealing with hamstring injury

Wed, 20 May 2015 13:37:27 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters (elbow, hamstring) experienced hamstring tightness, but he is still expected to catch Thursday, May 21. He is currently on a rehab assignment with Class AA Bowie (Md.).

Fantasy Tip: Wieters ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) is expected to join the Orioles sometime in early June, and he will be a boost to lineups in the real and fake game. Continue to stash him in all formats and check back for updates on his progress. Upon his return, FantasyScore players could have a nice bargain on their hands from the beginning, although, it wouldn't be out of the question for him to struggle through an adjustment period at the dish initially.

Orioles | Matt Wieters nearing rehab assignment

Tue, 19 May 2015 14:04:58 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters (elbow) will join the team in Miami this weekend to continue his rehab. He'll then start a rehab assignment with Class AA Bowie (Md.) Tuesday, May 26. Wieters plans on being activated from the disabled list June 4, and he's been catching every other day in extended spring training.

Fantasy Tip: Wieters ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) will be a welcome addition to any fantasy lineup, especially with the catching lot being underwhelming this year. If he picks up where he left off in 2014 before injuring his elbow, he'll be a strong play at FantasyScore.

Orioles | Caleb Joseph odd man out?

Sun, 17 May 2015 14:26:14 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Caleb Joseph and C Matt Wieters will not likely be in the same lineup until rosters expand in September, according to manager Buck Showalter. The only time they may be in the same lineup together is if Wieters elects to add a third catcher.

Fantasy Tip: Joseph ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) may head for the bench when Wieters returns to active duty, so Joseph owners may want fair warning to take him out of their daily lineups or bench him in fantasy leagues.

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters (elbow) will meet the team next week in Maimi to work out, and if all goes well, he will then begin a rehab assignment.

Fantasy Tip: Early June remains Wieters' ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) likely return timeline, and he should continued to be stashed in all formats. Continue to check back for updates on his progress.

Orioles | Matt Wieters set for nine innings

Wed, 13 May 2015 20:51:29 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters (elbow) is scheduled to catch nine inning in an extended spring training game Thursday, May 14. He will also catch a full game Saturday, May 16.

Fantasy Tip: Wieters is targeting a return in early June. That's good news for FantasyScore players, as they have another solid option behind the plate. The only one not smiling is Caleb Joseph, who will lose at-bats.

Orioles | Matt Wieters eyeing June 4

Tue, 12 May 2015 13:41:18 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters (elbow) and the team are hoping that he can return June 4 when he's eligible to come off the disabled list, according to manager Buck Showalter.

Fantasy Tip: Wieters ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) played a full nine innings in extended spring training Tuesday, and his next step is to play in back-to-back games. Recovering from Tommy John surgery, his defense has been more affected than his swing, so it's conceivable that he could return and pick up right where he left off in 2014 with the stick. Caleb Joseph ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has filled in nicely, with a .295 average (23-for-78) with three home runs and 10 RBI. He continues to have short-term value as a matchup play with nice power at FantasyScore.

Orioles | Matt Wieters on 60-day DL

Mon, 11 May 2015 09:19:49 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters (elbow), who was moved to the 60-day disabled list after the game Sunday, May 10, is scheduled to catch nine innings in extended spring training Thursday, May 14, and Saturday, May 16.

Fantasy Tip: Wieters ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) is recovering slowly from Tommy John surgery after a setback during spring training. He probably won't make his season debut until early June. In the meantime, Caleb Joseph ($3,300, 6.6% of cap), who is hitting .299 (23-for-77) with three home runs and nine RBI isn't a bad matchup play for his power potential at FantasyScore.
