Athletics | Jarrod Parker to remain a starter

Tue, 08 Dec 2015 15:37:07 -0800

Oakland Athletics SP Jarrod Parker (elbow) will be stretched out as a starter again in the spring, according to manager Bob Melvin.

Fantasy Tip: Parker has already undergone two Tommy John procedures, and actually had a setback last year on his way back to the big leagues. If he is able to get past his medical obstacles and retain his old form, Parker could be a marvelous sleeper candidate in 2016. Still just 27 years old, the former first-round pick compiled a solid 25-16 record combined over 2012-2013.

Oakland Athletics SP Jarrod Parker (elbow) had a fractured bone cleaned during his surgery Tuesday, May 19, and a ligament and tendon were also reattached. Parker will be in a cast for four to six weeks.

Athletics | Jarrod Parker avoids Tommy John

Mon, 18 May 2015 14:49:23 -0700

Fantasy Tip: It's good news for Parker, but he won't be fantasy-relevant for quite a while longer, and perhaps not again until the 2017 season. Stay tuned for Parker's recovery timetable after he undergoes surgery tomorrow.

Athletics | Jarrod Parker likely to need surgery

Sun, 10 May 2015 11:31:46 -0700

Updating a previous report, Oakland Athletics SP Jarrod Parker (elbow) has been diagnosed with a fractured medial epicondyle in his right elbow. He sustained the injury while throwing a pitch in a rehab game for Triple-A Nashville Friday, May 8. According to trainer Nick Paparesta, Parker will be sent home and will visit several specialists before they determine the next course of action. Surgery appears to be imminent but the type of procedure Parker will need to undergo is not yet known.

Fantasy Tip: If not for this most recent setback, Parker would have been set to rejoin the A's rotation within the next two weeks. Instead, the possibility looms that he could require a third Tommy John surgery. There is currently no timetable for his return but if reconstructive elbow surgery is necessary, Parker would be sidelined until the middle of the 2016 season.

Athletics | Jarrod Parker suffers setback

Sat, 09 May 2015 05:17:56 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Jarrod Parker (elbow) left his rehab start with Triple-A Nashville in "excruciating pain" Friday, May 8. His last pitch bounced 10 feet away from the plate between home and third base, and he went down in a heap. The Athletics will wait for Parker to be evaluated by doctors before announcing a diagnosis.

Fantasy Tip: Parker is attempting to return from a second Tommy John surgery, so the injury Friday is potentially serious. Before fantasy owners jump to conclusions or make hasty roster moves, it would be wise to wait for an official announcement concerning the severity of the injury and a timeline for his return. At this point, stashing Parker is likely best left to deep mixed and AL-only leagues, though.

Athletics | Velocity up for Jarrod Parker

Mon, 04 May 2015 19:42:49 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Jarrod Parker (elbow) continues to work his way back from reconstructive elbow surgery, and manager Bob Melvin said Monday, May 4, that Parker's velocity was up and his ability to strike out batters is improving.

Fantasy Tip: Parker might be back by the end of May, although his role remains uncertain at this point. He could have a spot in the rotation, or he might work in long relief. FantasyScore players will want to avoid him until he can officially return and his role is determined.
