Athletics | Jarrod Parker makes rehab start

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 07:32:56 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Jarrod Parker (elbow) allowed three runs on four hits and struck out one in 3 2/3 innings at Class A Stockton Thursday, April 23. He touched 93 mph on his last fastball.

Fantasy Tip: Parker will probably need two or three more rehab starts before returning. Parker was a bright prospect before Tommy John surgery halted his progression. He'll be a matchup play on FantasyScore in a month or two.

Fantasy Tip: Parker is making his way back from reconstructive surgery. Itís uncertain if he will be plugged back into the rotation, or if he will have some sort of a role out of the bullpen. FantasyScore owners will want to avoid him until he can officially return and his role becomes more definitive.

Mon, 13 Apr 2015 15:16:18 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Jarrod Parker (elbow) threw three innings in an extended spring training game Monday, April 13, and his next outing might be in a minor league game, according to manager Bob Melvin.

Athletics | Jarrod Parker making progress

Tue, 07 Apr 2015 18:35:21 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Jarrod Parker (elbow) threw two sets of 15 pitches in a simulated game Tuesday, April 7. He threw mostly fastballs and changeups. He is scheduled to throw a three-inning set Monday, April 13, at the team's minor-league facility in Arizona.

Fantasy Tip: Parker, who is returning from Tommy John surgery, is expected to return sometime in June, so FantasyScore owners can forget about him until then as the team will not rush him back. He could possibly work from the bullpen rather than work in the rotation, so FantasyScore owners would then forget about him completely.

Athletics | Jarrod Parker tosses simulated game

Wed, 18 Mar 2015 13:02:10 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Jarrod Parker (elbow) threw 30 pitches in a simulated game Wednesday, March 18. The session was broken up into two sets of 15 pitches to simulate an inning break. Parker is returning from his second Tommy John surgery, and he is feeling great and is a little ahead of schedule.

Fantasy Tip: Parker is working towards a return after missing all of the 2014 season, and there is a legitimate chance he'll pitch out of the bullpen. At this point, he is speculative-stash candidate in deep AL-only leagues, but in the majority of formats, he shouldn't be owned. Still, it wasn't long ago Parker was considered a future ace and impact fantasy arm, so keep tabs on his progression over the next few weeks.

Athletics | Jarrod Parker faces live hitting

Sat, 14 Mar 2015 15:00:23 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Jarrod Parker (elbow) threw 20 pitches while facing minor league hitters Friday, March 13. He threw a combination of exclusively fastballs and curveballs, although he warmed up by throwing changeups. Parker was working on a smooth delivery while throwing at 90 percent effort level.

Fantasy Tip: Parker's next session facing live hitters will be Wednesday, March 18, but he is not expected to return to action until June. Although he won't be drafted in most leagues, he should be monitored based on his 3.73 ERA and 1.24 WHIP in 61 career starts for the A's.

Athletics | Jarrod Parker throws bullpen

Tue, 10 Mar 2015 12:57:30 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Jarrod Parker (elbow) threw a bullpen session Tuesday, March 10, and manager Bob Melvin said he may have information on the next step of Parker's rehab soon if Parker reports no issues.

Fantasy Tip: Parker won't be back until June, but he will have some fantasy value upon returning thanks to a 3.73 ERA when healthy. Still, keep in mind what two Tommy John surgeries can do to a career.

Athletics | Jarrod Parker impresses manager

Fri, 20 Feb 2015 14:15:22 -0800

Oakland Athletics SP Jarrod Parker (elbow) showed strong command and threw well during his bullpen session Friday, Feb. 20, according to manager Bob Melvin. Melvin noted Parker, "had a real good changeup on top of his fastball and at the end was spinning breaking balls."

Fantasy Tip: Parker and Oakland are targeting a return in June, which makes him undraftable in the majority of seasonal leagues. After two Tommy John surgeries, it is difficult to project Parker's fantasy value when he returns, too. He is worth monitoring, though, because over two seasons, he posted a 3.73 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP through 61 starts.
