Giants | Madison Bumgarner bested by Padres

Sat, 16 Jul 2016 00:09:12 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Madison Bumgarner surrendered four runs on seven hits in six innings against the San Diego Padres on Friday, July 15. He issued one free pass and registered nine strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: After throwing a one-hit shutout on Sunday, Bumgarner looked human against the Pads, a team he'd already beaten twice in 2016. Still, to put Bumgarner's season in perspective, the four earned runs matched his high for the year. Keep deploying him every fifth day.

Giants | Madison Bumgarner flirts with no-hitter

Sun, 10 Jul 2016 20:17:10 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Madison Bumgarner tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing one hit while walking one and striking out 14 in a win over the Arizona Diamondbacks Sunday, July 10.

Fantasy Tip: If Clayton Kershaw is the top fantasy pitcher, Bumgarner is on the short list of players that can make a case for being next in line.

Giants | Madison Bumgarner denied 10th win

Tue, 05 Jul 2016 23:28:16 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Madison Bumgarner allowed just four hits in six scoreless innings against the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday, July 5. He was not involved in the decision.

Fantasy Tip: Bumgarner departed with a 2-0 lead, but the bullpen proceeded to give up seven runs over the next two innings. Despite inconsistent run support and shaky relief work costing the lefty some wins, Bumgarner remains an elite fantasy ace.

Giants | Madison Bumgarner a double threat in win

Fri, 01 Jul 2016 05:10:00 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Madison Bumgarner allowed four runs and seven hits, struck out four and didn't walk a batter in 6 1/3 innings of work Thursday, June 30, as the Giants beat the Oakland Athletics, 12-6. Bumgarner allowed two home runs, which matched his most for the season. Bumgarner snapped a two-start losing streak. He hasn't lost three straight starts since June 27-July 8, 2014. Bumgarner also went 1-for-4 at the plate.

Fantasy Tip: This game was noteworthy because of the Giants giving up the DH so Bumgarner could hit. Whatever the case, it sparked the team and it appeared to spark Bumgarner as well. He remains a solid option in all formats.

Giants | Madison Bumgarner to bat for himself

Wed, 29 Jun 2016 22:17:18 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Madison Bumgarner will hit for himself against the Oakland Athletics on Thursday, June 30. It marks the first time since 1976 that a pitcher has intentionally batted for himself in an AL ballpark.

Fantasy Tip: This news doesn't affect fantasy owners, but it's interesting in that it hasn't happened in 40 years. For the record, Bumgarner's .175 average is 58 points below that of Mac Williamson, who has the lowest BA among position players.

Giants | Madison Bumgarner takes hard-luck CG loss

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 19:45:28 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Madison Bumgarner went the distance but suffered his first loss in exactly two months Monday, June 20, despite yielding only one run on five hits while striking out eight against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The 1-0 defeat also ended a 10-game stretch in which the Giants won each time Bumgarner took the mound.

Fantasy Tip: Erik Kratz's fifth-inning solo shot proved to be the difference. Despite the setback, Bumgarner has allowed one run or less - and no more than two earned - in any of his last 12 outings, striking out at least seven at least eight times over that span. The Giants' ace will be an elite play in all formats in his next scheduled start at home Saturday against the struggling Philadelphia Phillies.

Giants | Madison Bumgarner wins seventh in a row

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 23:05:08 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Madison Bumgarner won his seventh straight decision Tuesday, June 14, against the Milwaukee Brewers. The perennial NL Cy Young contender recorded eight sharp innings of two-run ball, allowing only four hits and one walk, while striking out eight. For what it's worth, he also went 1-for-2 at the plate with a couple walks.

Fantasy Tip: Bumgarner is on some kind of amazing run right now, as he's now surrendered two earned runs or less in 11 straight starts. In the process, he's registered at least eight strikeouts in six of them. Simply put, Bumgarner looks like he'll be putting up a fight over this year's NL Cy Young award. Fantasy owners just need to keep starting him every time he toes the rubber.

Giants | Madison Bumgarner dominates Braves

Thu, 02 Jun 2016 15:31:23 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Madison Bumgarner was outstanding in his start Thursday, June 2, versus the Atlanta Braves. He worked 7 2/3 scoreless innings, scattering just four hits and two walks, while tying a season high with 11 strikeouts. For what it's worth, he also went 1-for-4 at the plate with a two-run homer -- his second of the year.

Fantasy Tip: Bumgarner was in his usual top form here, as Atlanta couldn't get anything going at all other than a little rally in the first inning that ended up producing nothing. With the exceptional performance, MadBum lowered his ERA to a microscopic 1.91, en route to improving his record to 7-2. He's a must-start option every time he toes the rubber.
