Giants | Madison Bumgarner shuts down Cubs

Sun, 22 May 2016 20:34:34 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Madison Bumgarner allowed three hits while walking two and striking out six over 7 2/3 shutout innings in a win over the Chicago Cubs Sunday, May 22.

Fantasy Tip: Bumgarner has allowed two runs or less in seven straight starts, and he is locked in as a fantasy ace.

Cubs | Miguel Montero not starting Sunday

Sun, 22 May 2016 14:17:21 -0700

Chicago Cubs C Miguel Montero is not starting Sunday, May 22, against the San Francisco Giants. C David Ross is batting eighth against Giants SP Madison Bumgarner.

Fantasy Tip: Montero and Ross have been largely platooning, so this move should come as no surprise to Cubs fans. Ross generally has little fantasy value even though he has shown he can hit home runs off Bumgarner (one in six at-bats).

Cubs | Jason Heyward out Sunday

Sun, 22 May 2016 14:11:18 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Jason Heyward (ribs) is out of the starting lineup Sunday, May 22, against the San Francisco Giants. OF Matt Szczur will bat seventh and play right field against Giants SP Madison Bumgarner.

Fantasy Tip: As mentioned in previous tips, Heyward could be out anywhere from three to five days following his rib injury on Saturday. Szczur, himself just back from the DL due to hamstring issues, has six hits in his last 15 at-bats and makes a decent pickup in daily contests.

Giants | Madison Bumgarner throws CG gem

Tue, 17 May 2016 22:59:38 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Madison Bumgarner was masterful Tuesday, May 17, against the San Diego Padres. He went the distance, registering nine innings of one-run ball, scattering only five hits, while striking out 11 compared to zero walks. The win makes him 5-2 on the season.

Fantasy Tip: The former World Series MVP was out to a bit of a slow start through his first few assignments this season, but has settled in nicely since then, as he's now yielded two runs or less in six straight starts. He now owns a 2.45 ERA for the year and has reminded fantasy owners why he's one of the league's most dependable aces.

Giants | Madison Bumgarner tosses quality start

Wed, 11 May 2016 19:14:19 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Madison Bumgarner allowed one run on three hits over 6 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Toronto Blue Jays Wednesday, May 11, with four walks and five strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Bumgarner retired 12 of 14 batters at one point during the game and has posted a 1.87 ERA over his last five starts. His next outing will come against the San Diego Padres Tuesday, May 17, and he should be viewed as a must-start option in all fantasy formats.

Giants | MadBum whiffs 10 in victory

Fri, 06 May 2016 23:44:25 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Madison Bumgarner allowed four runs - three earned - and seven hits with one walk and 10 strikeouts over 7 1/3 innings Friday, May 6, against the Colorado Rockies.

Fantasy Tip: MadBum was a little shaky out of the chute, posting a 4.50 ERA through his first three starts, but he has four straight quality starts to shave his ERA down to 3.14 and give his fantasy owners and DFS players what they expect.

Giants | Madison Bumgarner's velocity down

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 09:48:51 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Madison Bumgarner's average fastball velocity is down from 93 mph to 91 mph so far this season. However, his strikeout rate is up to 11.5 per nine innings from his career-high 9.6 K/9 last year. Bumgarner insists his arm feels fine, and the foot and rib cage injuries that appeared in spring training are not a factor.

Fantasy Tip: MadBum's 1.35 WHIP is a little concerning with 30 hits and 10 walks in 29 2/3 innings. However, many pitchers struggle out of the gates only to turn in banner seasons at the end. He's still a legit SP1 worth daily consideration when his turn comes up.

Dodgers | Scott Van Slyke removed after HBP

Sat, 09 Apr 2016 15:46:28 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Scott Van Slyke (back) was taken out of the game Saturday, April 9, against the San Francisco Giants with lower back tightness after getting hit by a pitch from SP Madison Bumgarner.

Fantasy Tip: Joc Pederson came on as a pinch runner and took over in center, pushing Trayce Thompson over to left. The Dodgers' once-deep outfield is quickly running out of bodies, as Carl Crawford went on the disabled list earlier Saturday with lower back soreness and Andre Ethier is expected to miss two to three months with a fractured tibia. Thompson is the most likely candidate for regular at-bats with all the turnover and might be worth a short-term add in most leagues.

Giants | Madison Bumgarner sluggish in first start

Mon, 04 Apr 2016 16:18:25 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Madison Bumgarner allowed five hits, five walks and three runs in just five innings in a win over the Milwaukee Brewers on opening day Monday, April 4. Manager Bruce Bochy said an illness has been going around the clubhouse, and Bumgarner had been taking medicine to prepare for his start.

Fantasy Tip: Bumgarner certainly didn't look himself in this one, and he was pitching under the weather after dealing with the flu bug yesterday. Give him a pass for this one. He should be good to go for his next start, and you should continue running him out there in your fantasy lineups.
