Cubs | Albert Almora takes a seat

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 11:25:44 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Albert Almora is not in the starting lineup Monday, June 27. OF Chris Coghlan makes the start in right field and is hitting eighth against Cincinnati Reds SP Dan Straily. OF Jason Heyward moves over to center field and is batting second.

Fantasy Tip: Coghlan has only six hits in 28 at-bats (.214) since being traded back to the Cubs earlier this month and is a low-end outfield pick in daily formats. Heyward has picked it up a bit in June with three home runs and 23 hits in 89 at-bats, and he's not a bad DFS selection while facing Straily tonight.

Cubs | Lineup shuffles for the Cubs

Fri, 24 Jun 2016 12:11:49 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Jason Heyward is batting first, and 2B Ben Zobrist is hitting fourth against Miami Marlins SP Tom Koehler Friday, June 24.

Fantasy Tip: This isn't a significant shift for Heyward. It likely increases his activity on the base paths, though. Similarly, Zobrist's RBI opportunities will see an uptick batting cleanup Friday, but it there isn't a significant fantasy impact. Both remain starters in all fantasy formats.

Cubs | Dexter Fowler not playing

Sun, 19 Jun 2016 13:06:52 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Dexter Fowler (hamstring) is not in the starting lineup against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jameson Taillon Sunday, June 19. OF Jason Heyward will start in center field, while 3B Kris Bryant will start in right field. SS Javier Baez will start at third base and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Baez has been on a bit of a cold streak with a .182 batting average over the last seven days. He does have three home runs and 12 RBI so far this month and should still be an attractive option in fantasy leagues despite his recent struggles. Heyward and Bryant should be starters in all leagues.

Cubs | Kris Bryant, Jason Heyward out Friday

Fri, 17 Jun 2016 08:08:22 -0700

Chicago Cubs 3B Kris Bryant and OF Jason Heyward are out of the lineup Friday, June 17, with OF Matt Szczur hitting second and OF Albert Almora hitting fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Almora is hitting .353 in his first 17 at-bats of his career. Szczur is hitting .327 in 55 at-bats this year and has upside hitting ahead of Ben Zobrist and Anthony Rizzo. They're both low-end options against Francisco Liriano.

Cubs | Big day for Jason Heyward

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 16:23:39 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Jason Heyward had three hits, two walks and scored three runs Sunday, June 12, in a 13-2 win over the Atlanta Braves.

Fantasy Tip: Heyward is off his power pace this year, but he may be showing signs of warming up. Three of Heyward's four homers came this month. His batting average is 63 points below last season and his strikeouts are up. However, Heyward is worth inserting in daily formats because of his improving bat.

Cubs | Jason Heyward, Anthony Rizzo out

Sun, 05 Jun 2016 08:40:55 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Jason Heyward and 1B Anthony Rizzo are not in the starting lineup against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Patrick Corbin Sunday, June 5. INF/OF Kris Bryant will start at first base and bat third, while INF/OF Javier Baez bats fifth and plays third base. In addition, OF Matt Szczur will play right field and bat seventh, while C Miguel Montero bats eighth and starts behind the plate.

Fantasy Tip: Bryant is making the fourth appearance of his MLB career at first base and is seeing his third game there this season. Baez and Szczur should be viewed as potential value plays in daily fantasy leagues, while Montero is not a recommended option in any format this afternoon.

Cubs | Jason Heyward launches second HR

Thu, 02 Jun 2016 16:53:39 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Jason Heyward went 2-for-4 with his second homer of the season Thursday, June 2, versus the Los Angeles Dodgers. He finished with one run scored and an RBI.

Fantasy Tip: Lost in all the hoopla surrounding Chicago's superb start has been the disastrous signing of Heyward, who has been mostly awful thus far in his first season with the Cubs. Now owning a .229/.325/.309 slash line, Heyward has been one of the biggest busts of any offseason acquisition, but perhaps his long ball this afternoon can get him going before more people notice how bad he's been.

Cubs | Anthony Rizzo, Jason Heyward both out

Fri, 27 May 2016 08:21:13 -0700

Chicago Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo (rest) and OF Jason Heyward (rest) are both not in the starting lineup Friday, May 27. 3B Kris Bryant is filling in at first base, allowing 2B Javier Baez to enter the lineup at third base and bat seventh opposite Philadelphia Phillies SP Adam Morgan. OF Jorge Soler will shift over to right field, while OF Matt Szczur gets a rare start in left field and is hitting fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Baez is always one of the better value plays for daily formats whenever he cracks the batting order, so owners might want to consider his services this afternoon. Meanwhile, Szczur could be an interesting plugin play option, as he's produced an impressive .389/.450/.639 line thus far, albeit in 36 at-bats.

Cubs | Jason Heyward returns to lineup

Tue, 24 May 2016 12:14:35 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Jason Heyward (ribs) is back in the starting lineup and is hitting second against St. Louis Cardinals SP Michael Wacha Tuesday, May 24.

Fantasy Tip: Because he's hitting only .225 with one home run and 14 RBI, it's probably wise to let Heyward ease his way back in and keep him on your bench for a game or two. In daily formats, he'll be a contrarian play against Wacha and the Red Birds.

Cubs | Jayson Heyward feeling better

Mon, 23 May 2016 16:55:19 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Jason Heyward (ribs) said he has "dull soreness" on his side, but added, "I love how I'm feeling. I have complete confidence to test it."

Fantasy Tip: Whatever the case, Heyward is not in the lineup again on Monday, though it sounds like he's pretty close to returning. While he remains out, the Cubs have been inventive with how they replace him in right field, even using the likes of Kris Bryant and Ben Zobrist. As a result, Javier Baez benefits while Heyward remains sidelined, and is a pretty good value play for daily leagues when he's in the lineup.
