Cubs | Jason Heyward returns

Fri, 06 May 2016 09:14:00 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Jason Heyward (wrist) returned to the lineup Friday, May 6, hitting second. OF Jorge Soler is out of the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Soler is out for the third straight day, and his playing time is likely to continue to suffer. He's an NL-only option for now. Heyward got two at-bats yesterday, and he's 3-for-6 (.500) lifetime against Max Scherzer. However, he's not a great play today after a slow start and the layoff.

Cubs | Jason Heyward makes early return

Thu, 05 May 2016 20:53:20 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Jason Heyward (wrist) entered against the Washington Nationals in place of OF Dexter Fowler Thursday, May 5, after Fowler was ejected. Heyward was originally planning to return to the lineup Friday, May 6.

Fantasy Tip: Check on his status prior to Friday's game just to be sure, but it looks like Heyward should be safe to reinsert into starting lineups.

Cubs | Jason Heyward hopes to play Friday

Thu, 05 May 2016 14:00:12 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Jason Heyward (wrist) said he hopes to return to the starting lineup against the Washington Nationals Friday, May 6.

Fantasy Tip: Heyward's fantasy value has been buoyed by his 13 runs, 13 RBI and four stolen bases because his .211 average and zero in the home run column have been incredibly disappointing to start the season. Don't forget, though, Heyward had just nine runs, two home runs, four RBI, a stolen base and a .217/.261/.349 slash line after the first month of the season last year, too. Be patient because better numbers are ahead. Stay tuned for updates.

Cubs | Jason Heyward remains out

Thu, 05 May 2016 12:47:11 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Jason Heyward (wrist) remains out of the starting lineup Thursday, May 5. 3B Kris Bryant moves to right field, while 3B Tommy La Stella is at the hot corner and is batting second against Washington Nationals SP Joe Ross.

Fantasy Tip: Heyward's struggles and wrist injury are perplexing to his fantasy owners, and don't rule out the Cubs placing him on the DL to rest. Any more time that Heyward misses is beneficial to La Stella and Javier Baez, with Baez having the more fantasy upside because of his intriguing power-speed combination. La Stella has been productive, too (.297/.381/.514) and is a midrange DFS play against Ross.

Cubs | Jason Heyward could return Thursday

Wed, 04 May 2016 16:41:12 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Jason Heyward (wrist) could return to the lineup Thursday, May 5, according to manager Joe Maddon.

Fantasy Tip: Heyward has missed the last few games with a wrist injury that has bothered him since a few weeks into the season. Perhaps that's why he's hitting only .211 with no home runs after the first month. If healthy, Heyward should turn things around in the middle of one of the majors' most dangerous lineups. You may want to take a wait-and-see approach with him when he returns, though.

Cubs | Jason Heyward remains out

Wed, 04 May 2016 06:57:18 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Jason Heyward (wrist) is out of the lineup Wednesday, May 4, with 2B Tommy La Stella hitting second.

Fantasy Tip: La Stella is a low-end option to consider against Juan Nicasio. He just doesn't provide a lot of punch in DFS.

Cubs | Jason Heyward thinks he'll avoid DL

Tue, 03 May 2016 16:24:31 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Jason Heyward (wrist) doesn't think he'll need to go on the disabled list. He started feeling something in his right wrist in the second series of the season against the Arizona Diamondbacks. "I don't think it's a long-term kind of thing by any means, but his wrist is sore," manager Joe Maddon said. "He hasn't said anything, and then finally he said something, so we're trying to react to it right now."

Fantasy Tip: Heyward owners must be concerned considering he's off to a slow start. Keep him benched for now and check back for updates on when he might return. It could be any day now. Javier Baez and Tommy La Stella benefit the most as long as Heyward is out of the lineup. Baez is hitting well and has the most fantasy upside due to his power-speed combination. Baez should be owned in most leagues.

Cubs | Jason Heyward still out

Tue, 03 May 2016 11:45:29 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Jason Heyward (wrist) remains out of the starting lineup Tuesday, May 3. 3B Kris Bryant moves to right field. 2B/OF Javier Baez is starting at third base and hitting sixth against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jon Niese. Also, OF Jorge Soler is in the two-hole Tuesday.

Fantasy Tip: Heyward's wrist has apparently been bothering him for some time, which may have led to his slow start (.211/.317/.256 with no home runs). Hopefully for his owners a little time off will help him turn things around. Baez has done nothing but hit when given the chance this year (11-for-31), so he's a great daily pick today. Soler is off to a slow start but could be a contrarian pick that pans out in DFS today hitting at the top of the order.

Cubs | Jason Heyward nursing wrist injury

Mon, 02 May 2016 14:28:15 -0700

Updating a previous report, Chicago Cubs OF Jason Heyward (wrist) is dealing with a sore right wrist.

Fantasy Tip: It has been a disastrous start for Heyward, as he has yet to hit a home run and sits with a .211/.317/.256 slash line. His 13 runs, 13 RBI and four stolen bases help, but Heyward is currently far from being the five-category contributor fantasy owners were anticipating. Stay tuned for updates on his wrist injury.

Cubs | No Jason Heyward, Jorge Soler vs. Pirates

Mon, 02 May 2016 12:18:04 -0700

Chicago Cubs OFs Jason Heyward and Jorge Soler are not in the starting lineup Monday, May 2. OF Matt Szczur is starting in right field and batting seventh against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Gerrit Cole Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Heyward and Soler have underwhelming .211/.317/.256 and .190/.290/.310 slash lines to start the season, respectively. Both of their fantasy stocks are trending in the wrong direction, too. Szczur is a potential low-priced flier for daily contests Monday because of his 10-for-28 start to the season, but Cole is an intimidating opposing hurler, so keep your expectations in check.
