Cubs | Jason Heyward dropped further in lineup

Wed, 27 Jul 2016 12:41:55 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Jason Heyward is batting seventh, and C Miguel Montero is batting fifth against Chicago White Sox SP Anthony Ranaudo Wednesday, July 27. Cubs OF/C Willson Contreras is not in the starting lineup Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Heyward has been a total bust for the Cubs and sits with an underwhelming .228/.315/.315 slash line for the season. He's not a viable starter outside of deep mixed and NL-only settings. Montero is receiving more playing time of late and has a .346 on-base percentage since the All-Star break, but he's still nothing more than a low-end fantasy option in deep leagues. Contreras is worth owning universally.

Cubs | Ben Zobrist, Jason Heyward out

Mon, 18 Jul 2016 11:27:54 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Ben Zobrist and OF Jason Heyward are not in the starting lineup against New York Mets left-handed SP Steven Matz Monday, July 18. 2B Javier Baez is starting at second base and hitting leadoff again, while OF Matt Szczur is starting in right field and hitting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Zobrist is out for the second straight day against a lefty, but Joe Maddon wants to give him extra rest following the All-Star break. Baez is a nice power-speed guy that has added value in daily formats today against the lefty. He's batting .353 with four of his nine homers off southpaws. Szczur has potential, too, but is more of a sleeper candidate in DFS.

Cubs | Jason Heyward comes alive at plate

Sat, 09 Jul 2016 20:55:10 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Jason Heyward went 3-for-5 with a double Saturday, July 9, against the Pittsburgh Pirates for his third consecutive multi-hit game, and fourth in the past six outings.

Fantasy Tip: Heyward has come alive, improving his average from .229 to .247 just since June 25 thanks to six multi-hit games over the past 13 outings. He remains a big fantasy disappointment this season, but stick with him as he has the ability to get hot and collect hits in bunches for his impatient fantasy owners.

Cubs | Jason Heyward dropped in order

Mon, 04 Jul 2016 09:07:33 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Jason Heyward was dropped to sixth in the order Monday, July 4.

Fantasy Tip: J-Hey has a .231-4-26 line and isn't a real good option against lefty Cody Reed today.

Cubs | Jason Heyward back in against Mets

Fri, 01 Jul 2016 13:20:39 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Jason Heyward (side) is back in the starting lineup and is hitting second against New York Mets SP Jacob deGrom Friday, July 1.

Fantasy Tip: Heyward has been a disappointment this year with a .234/.325/.323 slash line and four homers and 26 RBI, but he's been better recently and should be returned to lineups in seasonal leagues. Attempting to buy low near the midway point is a solid strategy.

Cubs | Jason Heyward nursing minor injury

Thu, 30 Jun 2016 13:52:20 -0700

Updating a previous report, Chicago Cubs OF Jason Heyward (side) is nursing muscle tightness, so against a left-handed pitcher Thursday, June 30, it was a fitting spot to provide him an additional game off to rest.

Fantasy Tip: Expect Heyward to return to the lineup Friday, July 1. He's a potential buy-low candidate after a slow start to the season, as the outfielder appears to be trending in the right direction after an improved stat line in June (.260/.339/.390 slash line with 13 runs, three home runs and eight RBI).

Cubs | Jason Heyward sitting vs. Mets

Thu, 30 Jun 2016 12:30:12 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Jason Heyward is not in the starting lineup Thursday, June 30. OF Albert Almora is starting in center field and batting ninth against New York Mets SP Steven Matz Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Heyward has been seeing the odd night off against southpaws, so sub him out where you can in seasonal leagues. He started to trend in the right direction in June with a .260/.339/.390 slash line, 13 runs, three home runs and eight RBI. There is five-category upside, if you can grab him on the cheap for the summer months. Almora is a potential flier in daily contests Thursday, and at this point, he should be owned in all cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues because of his respectable .776 OPS and semi-regular starts.

Cubs | Jason Heyward out Wednesday

Wed, 29 Jun 2016 07:19:53 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Jason Heyward is out of the lineup Wednesday, June 29, with C Willson Contreras moving up to hit cleanup. OF Matt Szczur is hitting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Contreras has mashed since his callup and forced the team to keep putting him out there. He has a .355-3-9 line in 31 at-bats, and he's a solid option against lefty Cody Reed. Szczur is a low-end consideration as well.
