Phillies | J.P. Arencibia homers in spring opener

Tue, 01 Mar 2016 21:33:34 -0800

Philadelphia Phillies C J.P. Arencibia launched a home run and singled in the Grapefruit League spring game Tuesday, March 1, against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Fantasy Tip: Arencibia has an uphill climb in his battle with Carlos Ruiz and Cameron Rupp, but so far so good for the veteran. At the very least if he has a good spring and doesn't make it in Philly, he will latch on somewhere else in need of cheap power and a backup.

Rays | J.P. Arencibia, Daniel Nava removed

Sun, 22 Nov 2015 13:33:19 -0800

Tampa Bay Rays C J.P. Arencibia and OF Daniel Nava were among those removed from the 40-man roster to make room for other players.

Fantasy Tip: Arencibia is a backup catcher with minimal fantasy value in most drafts, but Nava could be a decent fourth outfielder in some markets depending on where he lands.

Rays | Tampa Bay sitting five regulars vs. Jays

Fri, 02 Oct 2015 15:12:48 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OFs Kevin Kiermaier and Steven Souza, 1B James Loney and C J.P. Arencibia are not in the starting lineup against Toronto Blue Jays SP Mark Buehrle Friday, Oct. 2.

Fantasy Tip: With the Tampa Bay lineup missing a number of key cogs, there isn't a lot to be excited about from the Rays Friday. FantasyScore players could target Evan Longoria ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) because of his .344/.395/.576 slash line against southpaws this season, but otherwise, you're likely betting fading the entire lineup.

Rays | J.P. Arencibia sitting again

Tue, 29 Sep 2015 11:55:13 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C J.P. Arencibia is out of the lineup for the third straight game Tuesday, Sept. 29. C Luke Maile is behind the plate and is hitting ninth against Miami Marlins SP Adam Conley.

Fantasy Tip: It makes zero sense to go with Maile ($1,600, 3.2% of cap), who has only two hits in 25 at-bats for the Rays, on FantasyScore on a night with all 15 teams in play.

Rays | James Loney, J.P. Arencibia sitting

Sun, 27 Sep 2015 08:03:29 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 1B James Loney and C J.P. Arencibia are not in the starting lineup against the Toronto Blue Jays Sunday, Sept. 27.

Fantasy Tip: Richie Shaffer ($3,600, 7.2% of cpa) and Luke Maile ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) draw into the lineup for Tampa, but they're nothing more than low-priced dice rolls at FantasyScore Sunday. You should likely aim higher. Make sure to avoid Loney ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) and Arencibia ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) in all fantasy formats, too.

Rays | J.P. Arencibia sitting vs. Red Sox

Thu, 24 Sep 2015 14:37:16 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C J.P. Arencibia is not in the starting lineup Thursday, Sept. 24. C Luke Maile is starting behind the plate and batting ninth against Boston Red Sox SP Wade Miley Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Arencibia ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) owns a .300 batting average and .906 OPS over 21 games since being recalled to the Rays, and he could be worth a look for seasonal owners in need of a boost down the stretch. Maile ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has just 19 plate appearances and is nothing more than a desperation source of cap relief at FantasyScore Thursday.

Rays | J.P. Arencibia returns vs. Boston

Wed, 23 Sep 2015 14:42:14 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C J.P. Arencibia (hand) is starting behind the plate and batting seventh against Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello Wednesday, Sept. 23.

Fantasy Tip: Arencibia ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) is 5-for-21 over his past seven games, and he is currently dealing with a bone bruise in his left hand. Notoriously streaky, it might not be the best time to tee up Arencibia at FantasyScore Wednesday.

Rays | J.P. Arencibia to be limited

Tue, 22 Sep 2015 20:05:37 -0700

Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Rays C J.P. Arencibia (hand) is dealing with a bone bruise in his left hand, commonly known as "catcher's hand", and the injury might limit his playing time for the remainder of the regular season.

Fantasy Tip: With Arencibia ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) sidelined, Luke Maile ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) started Tuesday and he might see plenty of at-bats down the stretch.

Rays | J.P. Arencibia may miss a few games

Tue, 22 Sep 2015 15:54:13 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C J.P. Arencibia (hand) may miss a few days due to soreness in his left hand.

Fantasy Tip: Arencibia ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) is out of the lineup Tuesday night, so make sure you don't use him at all for the next couple of days. He's been the best catcher on the team by a long shot in the past month, though, and he still warrants consideration as an under-the-radar catcher play when he's in there.

Rays | J.P. Arencibia out again

Thu, 17 Sep 2015 14:14:30 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C J.P. Arencibia is out of the lineup for the second straight day Thursday, Sept. 17. C Luke Maile is starting behind the dish and is hitting ninth against Baltimore Orioles SP Chris Tillman.

Fantasy Tip: Avoid Maile ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) on FantasyScore. He has a double in his first 10 at-bats for the Rays in his first taste of big league pitching.
