Red Sox | Rick Porcello activated by Red Sox

Wed, 26 Aug 2015 10:10:03 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello (triceps) has been activated from the disabled list and is expected to get the start on the road Wednesday, Aug. 26, against SP Chris Sale and the Chicago White Sox.

Fantasy Tip: Porcello ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) wasn't very good before he landed on the DL and we don't like his chances against the White Sox ace on the road in his first start back. Melky Cabrera ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) and Gordon Beckham ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) are intriguing options if they get the start on FantasyScore, both have owned Porcello in the past.

Red Sox | Rick Porcello to rehab Saturday

Wed, 12 Aug 2015 11:45:10 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello (triceps) will make a minor league rehab start for Class A Lowell Saturday, Aug. 15, and will then go to Class AA Portland or Class AAA Pawtucket five days later.

Fantasy Tip: Based on Porcello's ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) results this year (5.81 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, 7.2 K/9), you should only keep him stashed in a DL spot in AL-only leagues. Only use him on FantasyScore if he has a really juicy matchup after he returns from the DL.

Red Sox | Rick Porcello may make rehab start

Sun, 09 Aug 2015 07:06:30 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello (triceps) threw a light bullpen session Friday, Aug. 7, and could pitch in a rehab game by the end of this week, according to manager John Farrell.

Fantasy Tip: Porcello ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) does not appear to be dealing with a serious injury, so it is not known if he will need multiple rehab starts before returning. He has been inconsistent on the mound this season and is not the best option for owners on FantasyScore.

Red Sox | Rick Porcello unlikely to sit long

Wed, 05 Aug 2015 21:21:48 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello (triceps) is on the 15-day disabled list due to a strained right triceps, but manager John Farrell doesn't expect him to have a lengthy stay on the DL. "Shouldn't be a long absence," Farrell said Wednesday, Aug. 5.

Fantasy Tip: Porcello ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has gotten worse as the season has gone on, posting a 5.34 ERA in April, a 5.40 ERA in May, a 5.87 ERA in June and a 6.95 ERA in July. FantasyScore players aren't clamoring for Porcello to return anytime soon.

Red Sox | Rick Porcello to the DL

Sun, 02 Aug 2015 09:03:42 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello (triceps) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday, Aug. 2. The Red Sox will announce a starter for Tuesday, Aug. 4, at a later time.

Fantasy Tip: Porcello ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has been a giant disappointment for the Red Sox, and he can be dropped, if still owned. There is some early speculation that prospect Henry Owens could be called up to start Tuesday, but owners need to wait for an official decision.

Red Sox | Rick Porcello lasts just two innings

Wed, 01 Jul 2015 16:30:35 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello allowed seven runs on seven hits, including three home runs, during Boston's 11-2 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays Wednesday, July 1.

Fantasy Tip: Porcello ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has four wins with a 6.08 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP. He cannot be started with confidence in any fantasy format and checks out as a desperation start at this point. In the majority of leagues, Porcello is replaceable.

Red Sox | Rick Porcello looks to recover

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 20:20:24 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello is scheduled to start Wednesday, July 1, against the Toronto Blue Jays. He enters winless since May 16 and he has lost six straight decisions. However, he beat the Blue Jays in his only appearance this season, allowing just one run over seven innings April 29 in Toronto.

Fantasy Tip: Porcello ($3,900; or 7.8% of cap) is hard to trust given his poor run lately, but his appearance against the Blue Jays earlier might make him a decent mid-level play in FantasyScore.

Red Sox | Rick Porcello struggles again

Wed, 10 Jun 2015 19:44:59 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello (4-6) lost his fourth consecutive start Wednesday, June 10, against the Baltimore Orioles. He allowed five runs and 10 hits over 5 1/3 innings, with no walks and five strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Porcello ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) has struggled mightily against the O's in particular this season, going 0-2 with a 9.37 ERA in three appearances. Avoid using him in FantasyScore for the foreseeable future.

Red Sox | Rick Porcello to start Game 2

Mon, 01 Jun 2015 20:22:49 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello is scheduled to work the second game of a doubleheader Wednesday, June 3, against the Minnesota Twins.

Fantasy Tip: Porcello is 2-4 with a 5.45 ERA in 12 starts over 66 innings against the Twins since the start of the 2012 season. FantasyScore players should look elsewhere Wednesday night rather than risking $4,500 (or 9.0% of cap).

Red Sox | Rick Porcello not playing like an ace

Wed, 27 May 2015 19:02:20 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello has allowed 13 earned runs over 11 and one-third innings in his last two starts. Porcello has allowed five home runs in his last three starts. Since Sept. 1, 2014, Porcello is 4-8 with a 5.60 ERA.

Fantasy Tip: Porcello's ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) 5.07 ERA is over a full run higher than his xFIP, but even with an ERA of 4.06, Porcello would be tough to trust. Porcello has a career high strikeout rate, but until he can limit his runs better, he should be avoided on FantasyScore.
