Mets | NY to use spot starter soon

Mon, 10 Aug 2015 17:17:53 -0700

The New York Mets tentatively plan to use a spot starter on their next road trip, and Ps Dillon Gee and Logan Verrett are the primary candidates to receive a start. The Mets are looking for ways to slow the increasing innings totals for young SPs Matt Harvey, Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard.

Fantasy Tip: You can ignore Gee and Verrett in all formats, since they're likely to only have the one start. This is just another reminder that the Mets' young starters will have one less start down the stretch. It also looks plausible that they'll go back to a six-man rotation when Steven Matz (lat) is ready to return around the beginning of September.

Mets | Dillon Gee won't be traded

Mon, 22 Jun 2015 09:09:00 -0700

New York Mets SP Dillon Gee has been placed on outright waivers after the Mets were unable to find a trade partner for the pitcher, according to a source. The team plans to send him to Class AAA Las Vegas. Gee had an ERA of 5.90 this season and had recently been moved to the bullpen. He could refuse an assignment to the minors if he clears waivers and choose free agency, but he's unlikely to do so because he would vacate the $3.1 million owed to him this year.

Fantasy Tip: Because Gee ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) won't land with another club and have a chance to re-enter a starting rotation, he doesn't carry any fantasy value at this time.

Mets | Dillon Gee designated for assignment

Mon, 15 Jun 2015 12:51:02 -0700

New York Mets SP Dillon Gee was designated for assignment Monday, June 15. General manager Sandy Alderson said the team will try to trade Gee but will option or outright him to Class AAA Las Vegas if there is no interest.

Fantasy Tip: Gee ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has struggled this season and has a 0-3 record with a 5.90 ERA in seven starts. Gee could have fantasy value if he is traded to another team, so owners in deeper leagues may want to hold onto him if they have the roster space.

Mets | Dillon Gee starting Sunday

Fri, 12 Jun 2015 12:17:19 -0700

New York Mets SP Dillon Gee is listed as the starter against the Atlanta Braves Sunday, June 14.

Fantasy Tip: Gee ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has an 0-3 record with a 4.50 ERA, a 1.50 WHIP and a 5.3 K/9, so his numbers are quite underwhelming. Add his 4.30 FIP, and Gee cannot be started with confidence. However, at his cap hit, there is potential for a plus-return, and the Braves aren't an offensive juggernaut. View Gee as a risky flier for FantasyScore contests Sunday.

Mets | Bobby Parnell activated

Thu, 11 Jun 2015 09:54:25 -0700

New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell (elbow) was activated from the disabled list Thursday, June 11. In a corresponding move, P Dillon Gee was placed on the bereavement list after the death of his grandmother.

Fantasy Tip: Parnell has virtually no chance of taking the closing role from Jeurys Familia, at least not anytime soon. Expect Parnell to be eased back in, perhaps in low-leverage situations as he makes his way back from Tommy John surgery. Because he won't have an avenue to saves in the foreseeable future, Parnell carries virtually zero fantasy value.

Mets | Steven Matz's promotion looming

Tue, 09 Jun 2015 15:55:27 -0700

New York Mets SP Steven Matz, who leads the Pacific Coast League with a 1.94 ERA is expected to be called up to the majors within the next three weeks, according to a team source. Matz also has a league-leading 75 strikeouts, a 1.10 WHIP and a .207 opponent batting average in 74 1/3 innings with Class AAA Las Vegas. He has given up just four homers in the hitter-friendly league. If Matz is promoted, he will start, not pitch in relief. However, it's unclear how the Mets would open up a rotation spot for him. SPs Jon Niese and Dillon Gee are the most likely to be bumped from the rotation, and they both could be trade candidates.

Fantasy Tip: We've seen a handful of top prospects enter the big leagues and pay immediate dividends for fantasy owners this year, including fellow Mets prospect Noah Syndergaard. There's no reason this left-handed pitcher couldn't do the same, so he should be firmly on your radar at this point, especially in NL-only and keeper leagues.

Mets | Dillon Gee could move to bullpen

Fri, 05 Jun 2015 17:01:51 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Mets SP Dillon Gee is likely to be moved to the bullpen in the near future, unless SP Jon Niese struggles in his start against the Arizona Diamondbacks Friday, June 5.

Fantasy Tip: The Mets recently went to a six-man rotation when Gee ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) came off the disabled list but he struggled in his outing against the San Diego Padres Wednesday, June 3, when he allowed seven runs (four earned) in four innings. Niese ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) has posted a 9.00 ERA over 20 innings in his last four starts and has seen his season ERA rise from 1.95 to 4.42 over that stretch.

Mets | Dillon Gee likely to stay in rotation

Thu, 04 Jun 2015 15:41:14 -0700

New York Mets SP Dillon Gee will "probably" stay in the starting rotation, according to manager Terry Collins and pitching coach Dan Warthen.

Fantasy Tip: Gee's ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) first game back off the DL against the San Diego Padres didn't go so well, as he allowed eight hits and seven runs (four earned) in just four innings. He'll likely need to turn in a better result in his next outing if he wants to stay in the rotation. Prospect Steven Matz has been dominating Class AAA hitters and could be next in line for a promotion if Gee continues to falter. Stash Matz in keeper and dynasty formats.

Mets | Dillon Gee terrible in return

Wed, 03 Jun 2015 22:46:42 -0700

New York Mets SP Dillon Gee (groin) was pounded for seven runs four earned over four innings against the San Diego Padres Wednesday, June 3. It was his first start since coming off the 15-day disabled list after a month-long stay due to a strained groin.

Fantasy Tip: Gee ($3,900; or 7.8% of cap) should be avoided in FantasyScore until he can show a little more consistency and prove he is still not injured.

Mets | Dillon Gee to return Wednesday

Tue, 02 Jun 2015 16:41:49 -0700

New York Mets SP Dillon Gee (groin) is scheduled to return from the disabled list and pitch against the San Diego Padres Wednesday, June 3, as the team moves to a six-man rotation.

Fantasy Tip: Gee ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) will qualify as a risk/reward starter tomorrow on FantasyScore in his first start back from the DL. It's likely that most users will want to avoid him, but the Friars rank 27th in baseball in OPS against right-handers (.662), and they also have the third-most K's against righties, with 340.
