Athletics | Ike Davis in lineup Saturday

Sat, 04 Jul 2015 11:13:30 -0700

Oakland Athletics 1B Ike Davis will bat sixth against Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez Saturday, July 4. C/1B Stephen Vogt, who played first base Friday, July 3, will catch Saturday, with C Josh Phegley getting the day off.

Fantasy Tip: With Hernandez on the mound, Davis ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) is not a great FantasyScore option this afternoon. He is 1-for-5 against the righty in his career.

Athletics | Josh Phegley hitting fifth

Thu, 02 Jul 2015 15:29:16 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Josh Phegley will start behind the plate and hit fifth in the order Thursday, July 2, against the Seattle Mariners and LHP Roenis Elias. C Stephen Vogt will start at first base.

Fantasy Tip: Phegley ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) is crushing left-handed pitching to the tune of a .340 batting average this season. Phegley is worth a start any time he's facing a southpaw, and he offers a measure of cap relief to FantasyScore owners.

Athletics | Ike Davis sitting out

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 16:36:48 -0700

Oakland Athletics 1B Ike Davis is not starting against Colorado Rockies left-handed SP Jorge De La Rosa Tuesday, June 30. C Stephen Vogt is starting at first base, which allows C Josh Phegley to enter the starting lineup. OF Mark Canha is starting in left field and hitting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Phegley ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) could be an excellent value play to save money at other positions tonight. He's sporting a .362/.423/.617 line with three of his five home runs off lefties in 47 at-bats this year. On the other hand, Vogt ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) and Canha ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) are weaker plays. Vogt has just one of his 13 long balls off lefties and Canha has just seven hits in 59 at-bats (.119) against southpaws in 2015.

Athletics | Billy Butler sitting out

Sat, 27 Jun 2015 09:58:06 -0700

Oakland Athletics 1B Billy Butler is not in the starting lineup Kansas City Royals SP Chris R. Young Saturday, June 27. C Stephen Vogt will be the designated hitter and is batting third.

Fantasy Tip: Butler ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) likely is receiving a day off and should return soon. Vogt ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) has recorded at least one hit in seven of his last eight games and is a solid option for owners on FantasyScore.

Athletics | Stephen Vogt will be DH

Sat, 27 Jun 2015 09:50:27 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt will serve as the designated hitter against Kansas City Royals SP Chris R. Young Saturday, June 27, and is batting third in the lineup. C Josh Phegley will start at catcher and is batting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Vogt ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) is receiving a day off from catcher but is still in the lineup. Vogt has recorded at least one hit in seven of his last eight games and is a solid option for owners on FantasyScore. Phegley ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is hitting .333 this month with three home runs and seven RBI over his last five games. He could be a cheaper option for owners to consider.

Athletics | Stephen Vogt continues to hit

Thu, 25 Jun 2015 14:40:45 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt is 17-for-35 (.486) in his last nine games, and he's also hitting .441 against the Texas Rangers this year.

Fantasy Tip: Vogt ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) went 3-for-5 with a run scored in a sweep of the Rangers Thursday afternoon. He continues to be one of the safest catching options on FantasyScore. A tennis elbow he's been dealing with recently that required a cortisone shot Sunday doesn't appear to be an issue at all.

Athletics | Stephen Vogt enjoying hot streak

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 22:41:04 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt (elbow) returned to the lineup Wednesday, June 24, against the Texas Rangers. He finished 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs. He played first base instead of catcher after having a cortisone shot Sunday, June 21. It was his 10th start at first base.

Fantasy Tip: Vogt ($5,000; or 10.0% of cap) is 11-for-23 (.478) with five runs scored and eight RBIs during his current six-game hitting streak. He is a must-have in FantasyScore now that he has proven his health in a full game.

Athletics | Stephen Vogt returns to the lineup

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 14:39:26 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt (elbow) is starting at first base and batting third against Texas Rangers SP Wandy Rodriguez Wednesday, June 24.

Fantasy Tip: Vogt ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) hasn't played since Sunday, June 21, but he has an active five game hitting streak and two home runs, 11 RBI and a 1.333 OPS over his past seven games (six starts). Still, Vogt is dealing with tennis elbow and received a cortisone shot Sunday, so there is risk for FantasyScore players, especially at his hefty salary.

Athletics | Ike Davis sitting vs. lefty

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 13:55:26 -0700

Oakland Athletics 1B Ike Davis is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, June 24. C Stephen Vogt is starting at first base and batting third against Texas Rangers SP Wandy Rodriguez Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Davis ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) only has 10 at-bats against lefties this season, so this shouldn't come as a surprise. He has started the last four games against righties, and he should be viewed as a low-end first baseman in all formats. FantasyScore players should only turn to Davis when he faces a favorable opposing right-handed pitcher.

Athletics | Stephen Vogt expected to return Wednesday

Tue, 23 Jun 2015 15:09:23 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt (elbow) received a cortisone shot Sunday, June 21, and said he expects to return to the lineup Wednesday, June 24. He's been dealing with tennis elbow for about a month, but he said the elbow has felt better since the shot.

Fantasy Tip: Josh Phegley ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is starting behind the plate again tonight against Texas Rangers starter Chi Chi Gonzalez. Gonzalez is due for some serious regression to his numbers right now, so Phegley makes for an interesting sleeper pick, even though he's hitting just .238 (10-for-42) against right-handers this year.
